Not long after this 2001 run Halls (with their outside cylinders) were banned west of Newton Abbot as they were deemed out of gauge, I think from memory this related to the aftermath of engineering work in the area & the platform clearance through a station/or stations. 20 years on I don't know what the current situation is. Also no Halls are currently operational (I think) although I believe that 4936 Kinlet Hall is being overhauled for a mainline return.
And, the dozens of spectators arrived to photograph + wave at every available view point, such is the thrill of age old steam locomotion..
I think the Halls are worth a try as their hill climbing is good with the Stephenson link motion valve arrangement over the castles .
