Wow, you have been very busy this year, cutting, painting, building, all with your beautiful children, accompanied by your pets, but most importantly, all with the help and blessings of God. May this 2024 remain the same.😊
Great Recap of all the great work you accomplished last year! Looking forward to seeing all that you will do in 2024. Thanks for the time you take to make all the great videos so that we can experience it along with you!
Good to see dowels being used. I used them all the time in church repairs and beam replacements. Steel bolts rust and do not come out without damaging Oak and colours it blue as the acid in the sap reacts with the steel in bolts and nails. Keep safe and have fun.
Hi Richard and family, Wow, how peaceful it was to watch your video. Better than any hollywood movie. Amazing work. Nathan from Out of the Wood said that you where Top Notch, I think he was right. Thank You and God Bless You All. From Québec Canada
Hello, We really like Nathan and appreciate the nice comment. We are glad you enjoyed the video and hope you enjoy others. Thank you for the comment and hope you have the best New Year. SMO
Hi Richard and the rest of the Smoky Mountain family! What an outstanding year of accomplishments! Thank you for taking so much extra time in setup, to allow us to follow your progression on the Outpost. I know I really appreciate it and I am sure many others do also. I pray you all have a phenominal 2024.
Lol, most people don’t realize how much time and effort videoing take. You’re watching about 8 to 9 days worth of work in each video. I usually film around 75 GB and all that gets compressed into about 5 to 6 MB worth of film, the rest of it is not shown. Yes you’re right, it takes a lot to produce a film. We hope that the people enjoy the work that goes into producing one. Thank you for your support, stay well and we’ll see you on the next one.
Thank you. It is amazing how much you can do by just doing a little bit every day. Although we would’ve liked to accomplished more, we’re very satisfied with the progress we have made. Stay well and we’ll see you in the next video.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoy your videos. I love the unique projects and she loves watching the dogs play and Jennifer's jokes and sense of humor. We also appreciate the central place your faith has in everything you do. Keep up the great work and may your days continue to be filled with serenity.
Oh, thank you so much for those kind words we greatly appreciate it. We hope everyone is safe and in good health and having a great new year. We hope that you enjoy the videos to come this year and look forward to your comments.
Thank you for that nice comment. Just a little bit every day can help you reach the closest point to your goal. We certainly would’ve liked to have done more but when we went back and looked at it, we’re very satisfied with the amount of progress that we made. Hope this new year is being favorable to you and will see you on the next one
That was a great year in review Richard. Enjoyed every minute of it again and will be rewatching some more. You all had a lot of great times working together and bringing out the beauty around there on the Outpost. It is so peaceful around there and shows Natures Beauty so well and it can show the not so calm side too. Thanks for sharing and taking us a long for the ride. Fred.
Hello friend, We’re glad that you enjoyed the videos and hope that this year would be no different. It’s great to look back and see how much you actually got done in a year time. Stay safe and we’ll see you on the next one.
Wow it was awesome to watch your year there Richard and Jennifer. Yes it is hard to believe what can be accomplished in a year of seady working.Your place is looking wonderful and i would love to visit it someday. God bles you always. 👍👍❤❤
Come by anytime. Just give us a shout and email and let us know when you’re going to be close by. Yes, we can’t believe how much we actually accomplished when you go back and look at it.
Thank you. We hope that you enjoy the videos this year as well and also hope that you’re off to a good start in this new year. Stay well and we’ll see you in the next one.
It was hard enough putting that video together much less trying to insert some jokes, lol. I guess we’ll save those for the regular videos that we put out. Hope you’re off to a great new year and we look forward to seeing you in the next one.
Lots of accomplishments in 2023. Tons of hard work went into the additions at the Outpost. Well done on all the work, all the video updates all year as well as the comic relief (some good, some bad Jennifer 😄) from the resident Outpost jester Richard.
It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by already. It was great to go back and find out where we started the year before and all that we had accomplished. Thanks for the support and we hope you’re off to a good start for this new year.
@@SmokyMountainOutpost Thanks for the info! I used Cabot Gold on some adirondack chairs I made a couple years ago. If I end up building something on my sister’s homestead in WV, I’ll have to try their timber oil and keep the roofing tar in mind.
Because it brings out the grain of the wood, burns off outside cells of wood and makes it look much better “I think” than just the original plain version. It also makes other parts of building stand out more. If you completely burn it it helps preserve the wood longer.
We use it multiple ways. The deep / black alligator burning is to seal the wood and it helps against rot and water and such. The lighter burn is mostly for the look, to bring the grain out prior to our oil treatment which has an amber tint to it.

You should be very proud of yourself, you are accomplishing something that the vast majority of the population would never be able to accomplish.

Best thing about your videos, beside the jokes, is that they are always entertaining!
Thanks, Tom!
Boy Richard, if your plans include doing more in 24, you have got one large task in front of you..... ( no jokes, I missed them ) Good Job !!!!!!!

I know you made a lot of things in 2023, but I think those saw horses were the best!
Do you think so? They were fun that’s for sure. But I’ll tell you what I really love that carport.
Richard you are living my life long dream, God bless.
Thank you!

Just curious, how much of this dream garage/workshop were drawn out vs how much was in your head
None of it was written down. I just kind of get it in my head. What I want and go from there.

Thank you very much. We hope that you are enjoying the videos and are having a great New Year’s so far. Take care and be safe.
Hey Richard just wondering how many bottles of X strength Tylenol you go through in a month?😂😂 Keep up the good work.
Ernie, A lot if he wouldn't refuse to take medicine most of the time.
Do you need to worry about the dowel pins loosing up due to green wood shrinkage ?
Post n Beam shrink around the pin helping to hold it. I also placed Timber screws at strategic locations just for peace of mind
I break out my curf with a hammer. It often reduces the chisel time
I really enjoyed your videos in 23. thanks😊
Glad you like them!
What’s the finish you use on the beams? Is it spar urethane?
And what were you applying to the scorched post bottoms? It looked rather rubber-like.
I use Cabot Timber Oil and it was roofing cement (tar) on the post base
@@SmokyMountainOutpost Thanks for the info!

Why do you run the weed burner on the beams ? Thanks
Because it brings out the grain of the wood, burns off outside cells of wood and makes it look much better “I think” than just the original plain version. It also makes other parts of building stand out more. If you completely burn it it helps preserve the wood longer.
❤why do you treat everything like it has the same exposure to bugs?
❤how it looks is also important
That’s why we do it. We like the look it gives.
🇳🇴👍👍👌🥇
Thanks!
