Waaleykum Assalam 👋🏼 To answer your question, since there aren’t any chemicals involved or any water, there is no need to spit. It is safe to swallow the excess saliva. However, the miswak will keep bacteria, so you should trim every 1-2 days. On the other hand, if your gums end up bleeding, it would be a good idea to spit and wash your mouth.
