I absolutely love this song! I cry every time I hear or sing it! Tim minchin is one of the greatest song writers/actors/singers/comedians/musicians ever!
I love the Matilda AND Tim's version, but you can hardly compare them. In Matilda, it obviously carries the story - showing how Jenny's meagre life is still cosy and something she is very proud of. When Tim sings it...it (as Lottieanne13 says) sounds more like a ballad, and something you could hear on the radio without needing the context of the play to make it work. Either way, Tim is a wonderful musician, a lovely singer and an amazing composer.
I work in hotels and had Tim stay with us. He was a great bloke and yeah he's pretty normal'ish when he's not doing shows (no makeup) but yeah each day he'd go out for a show he'd do himself up to look like that!

This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
He's so beautiful.

This sounds like a sort of Ballad now... not a song from a musical.

Learning this song and loving it!
At the risk of seeming like Gary Barlow, this genuinely is absolutely fantastic.
Lov'it!!!!!!!
Where did this come from? Thanks for the upload
I think it's perfect. The image speaks vulnerability.
I think I still prefer the cast version. especially with the counterpoint bit between Miss Honey/her father/Matilda. Nice to hear tho x
The lack of views is disturbing.
It's weird how there is often sterile version of great songs we love. I mean I love this song but it seems lacking in passion or am I wrong?
*Sigh*
