Need Help Please had one on Balcony my cat brought it in My Apt. It cant fly 🆘️ I'm in USA 🇺🇸 Heat wave 🥵and in City I dont want it to Die have more to Say
For context, I live near a colony and they dive through the air like dolphin through water. When their young finally fly with them, they just fly in between the narrow streets with maximum speed and in a 3 or 4 bird formation, that don't changes, despite speed and manuvers... Its just wow when they fly past your open window, like 2 meter away from your head.
I've never heard of them before, Never. But they live in my area i thought it was swallows considering the similarities. This morning one was on my balcony and couldn't fly out of it, The walls on my balcony aren't short enough not to mention their short legs. So i helped it out although it was really in a hurry to get out of there, Im surprised it didn't try to peck me or make any loud noises but it flew off happy once i got it high enough on the balcony such a majestic looking bird. I made sure it was alright beforehand.
Amazing creature, the swift. When I first learned at school about them sleeping on the wing, I couldn't believe it. For some reason, even the fact they can stay in the air for months at a time, didn't blow me away as much as sleeping while in flight. They'll soon be arriving in the outhouse in my backyard, together with the swallows and house martins, which to me is the sign the summer is finally on its way!
Today was my last day at my university. We have flocks of them constantly in flight everywhere on campus. Sometimes I stop to watch them and wonder at how they never seem to land. So today I did just that then decided to google if they ever do land and here I am watching this video! I certainly hope I get to see one up close someday. Their calls during sunset are also very unique, I just love hearing them and knowing it will be dark soon.
Ive always been curious about this species of birds, they are so fast. I have never had the opportunity to see one close. Growing up in the island of Trinidad and Tobago I would refer to them as rain birds. . Thanks to this video and all its information I now they known as Common Swift Perfect name for a perfect flight👏🏽
I read many years ago, in a Time Life collection book, that the common swift was the fastest flying bird on level, and many people think it's the peregrine falcon, but that is while diving. But horizontally, it's the common swift.
They are my favourite bird. I used to live in the south of Spain but now in the south of England. There are none here. I have put up a swift box high on a north wall and hope they will nest here.
4 years ago i had the honour to raise a week year old that fell from a high unreachable nest, had it for about to months then when it was the season to imigrate, left it to fly with the others, taking care of a bird can be a challenge, but it taught me a lot
Found one in my balcony She was wet as it was raining heavily Took care of it for 5hr then she took off It was the time i came to know about this bird Amazing beauty Mumbai India - location
It's really unbelievable that they can live on small insects !!! They must be very nutritious for their needs, which is also unbelievable !!! What a bird !!! TY,, 😁👍✝️💕💕💕
Ive actually never heads ogf a Swift COOL thought ty for this video!! I love in Saskatchewan, I'm very protective of my sparrows so I have sparrows hawks
i've saved three alpine swifts so far, i've collected them all from the ground, two adults and a not so ready to fly chick, fortunately none of them were hurt. the chick was able to get back to its flock after 2 weeks, and the adults got 1-2 days of rest. i hope they're doing fine. i'm an expert, but if you ever get to spot one on the ground, *do not* proceed to raise it and take it to an animal rehab *immediately* . do not forget that they're wild animals, they belong to the skies.
@@MyNamesUnavailable well you should take it to the nearest animal rehab, if it's still alive. otherwise you have to feed it yourself- you need to open its beak and *carefully* put a small, easy to swallow piece of food inside. i recommend wet cat food (basically kibbles- you can leave them in lukewarm water for a while until they get a bit mushier), boiled eggs, minced meat etc. make sure it doesn't choke on them, though. remember, finding an animal rehabilitator or even a vet would be the best option. also i must add, if you're certain that the bird is capable of flying on its own, i mean if it is an uninjured, healthy adult, you can release it (with caution) from a high ground, such as a building that is not *too* high, you know, just in case. that is because of their crescent-shaped wings, they don't allow them to take off from the ground like most birds. that's why they never land, because if they do... anyway, best of luck friend. i hope it's doing better now!

4:34 people who have seen swifts up close may consider themselves lucky. After all it is not common to associate face to face with a king.. Then I must say,me and my family are lucky because there's a baby swift in our home from the past week or above. Writing this from Hyderabad, India, Asia. Is there any proof of them sleeping on the wing? I have heard this story since the 80s and find it very baffling how any bird can sleep on autopilot without an accident or a predator!?

The swift can also be found in the Pacific Northwest of the United States as an invasive species. Which is strange since it can fly such large distances.

Saw one close two weeks ago. My nephew took care of him. I usually don't like birds, but swifts have great personalities.
