Diese Vögel können NICHT vom Boden auffliegen! Sie brauchen Höhe und einen freien Luftraum um ihr Leben in der Luft zu starten.

These kind of swifts don’t naturally have the ability to stand on their feet or perch on horizontal surfaces. So it’s best to give them a vertical surface to cling to since that is what they do in the wild.
Thanks for having the compassion and perseverance to raise this little guy!

Last year 2020 I found a common swift right outside our apartment.. I took the poor little thing inside, it wouldn't eat for 3 days, but after the third day, it started to make to calling sound. and then it would eat. I feed it with mealworms.. I crushed the head on the worms (so they wouldn't bite the intestines of the swift) I feed it every 2 hours. it became just as tame as the one in the video. 17 days after I found it. we took it outside and let it go. :-) I miss that little crazy finger-sucking bird :-)

@@Radioheadlover2 In the best case from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. feeding 6 times. There should be about 12 crickets per feeding (without legs). For dried crickets, I recommend dipping some of them in water so the bird can absorb enough moisture. The wet house crickets should also be enriched with vitamins (vitamin powder for birds).

Just wanted to say make sure not the worm nor the water nor anything else the baby eats or drinks is hot. Birds food like ours need to be not hot nor cold. If given cold or hot food the damages caused to the digestive system might put their lives at risk. Also their food needs to be insects that can fly, one or two medium sized cricket for example once every 2 hours as I heard.

Body 6 inches, wings 15/16 inches, so ungainly when grounded, so graceful in the air. A bird perfectly made for flight. One dropped here in Croatia yesterday. This is the fifth or sixth swift that has dropped out of the sky near me. It is usually evening, and the sky is crowded with a mad swift symphony, catching the last flies before nightfall. The cat got there, but I was just after. I leave the swifts in a quiet place in an aerated large shoe box or other cardboard container, in a safe place (i have cats) and as early as possible in the morning, when other swifts start flying, I release them. I usually throw them gently but now know to leave them on my outstretched hands. They are quite tough little birds though. I would like to know what you are feeding them. Insect balls? Do they have to be live? I have heard it is very hard to feed swifts and can kill them. Would like more information on this. Thank you for rescuring these amazing birds and putting in all the hard work needed.

They only eat a diet of bugs.
I have 4 pinky Chimney Swifts right now due to their nest falling in my chimney but I only feed them bugs and meal worms.
Feeding any meat will kill a Swift, they also dont eat any fruits or veggies because they dont naturally eat that stuff in the wild. Baby swifts get their liquid from their bug/insectavore diet.
Adult Swifts drink and eat from their wings, while flying, it's amazing, but they never land, they only land to virtical surfaces and swoop in to drink water from their wings.
They are very unique birds and they are amazing at reducing the amount of bugs in one area.
I love them and I love their chirpy little sparkle sounds.

Dorinta ei sa ajunga acolo unde ea se simte bine, ii aduce cea mai mare recompensa. Asa trebuie sa fie omul.Dar o pasare mica, cu o dorinta mare, reuseste mai mult de cat majoritatea oamenilor. Her desire to get to where she feels good, brings her the greatest reward. He fell out of the nest and I raised him.
Young swifts are no longer fed by their parents when they fall out of the nest.
Common swifts usually never land on the ground. They spend their whole life in flight except for breeding.

Hi Joe, try to throw the bird in the air to give it some momentum. Swifts can't simply take off from a flat surface because they're adapted to being in the air 24/7
