- Since the pandemic upended life as we knew it, cities across the country have gotten creative in finding ways to get people back into downtown areas. While it remains a struggle during the daytime, in San Francisco there is a change at night for the better. Max Darrow reports.

Not likely. Temple nightclub just shut its doors last month. That place has been in SF for 18 years. Quite a few bars that were shut down during the lockdowns will never come back.
Temple only has themselves to blame for them failing as they have not been able to book great DJs. People nowadays only go to clubs if there is a well-known DJ. Other Dance clubs (I.e 1015) are thriving cause they’ve been able to book top talent.
Lol, Temple shut down because that building is being replaced by a new skyscraper, bud.
@@TohaBgood2 Plenty of bars and restaurants closed during the shutdown and aren't coming back. Especially on Valencia bud.
@@gnryushi Turnover in SF dining is normal. It's an extremely competitive market with the highest restaurant per capita in the world.
Show me where the closings outpaced the openings in SF!
@@TohaBgood2 Easy, go downtown, go to the Embarcadero, go to Van Ness, go to FiDi. Are you even from the Bay, son? Because I'm born and bred from here AND STILL LIVE HERE. WTF ARE YOU EVEN ON ABOUT!???
Whenever they have to tell us how good things are or are getting that means things, they have not gone back to normal.
spot on.
True they are in desperate mode & trying tricks to get people to come back rather than fix the issues…..we moved to California 5 years ago from the east coast & it is almost comical to my wife & I to constantly hear the San Francisco & Oakland police say There is nothing they can do to stop crime & these street takeovers….they say they can’t chase criminals/ felons, they don’t arrest cause it’s a waste of time unless they steal over $1k, they encourage drug use by supplying fresh needles, etc etc…..even the dangerous cities on the east coast have some sense of normalcy UNLIKE California but I mean the people here keep voting the same.
Sure, bud. 94% is not back to normal. Keep telling yourself that. Whatever you need to cope with your right wing delusion syndrome.
Cool name. Also I agree. Without the conventions in the Soma area, Downtown would be a ghost town.
and that elections are coming. Wag the dog, wag wag wag. That’s your local news. Anybody who sees San Francisco now compared to what it’s used to be knows it’s a dump and it’s staying that way until we get some new leaders in town.
The storefronts still shuttered say different

The ENDUP seem to be rocking nearly 24 hours a day
No matter how you try to spin it it's bad. The many many closed stores and restaurants say another story. Now Westfield, At&t and others stores are closing also.
I don’t know about this and what she Is saying because I catch BART everyday and I walk the streets of sf, and both are pretty crowded all day and night.
It takes time to flatten the curve to become a person’s new normal.
I've been here since 1982 and seen many changes but what is happening right now is out of a bad movie. The people living in the allies and in the surrounds of buildings where families with kids stay is no cool at all. People the come to the city from other places the don't have any love from San Francisco and don't care about keeping it are all over, dirt, human waste, trash, and little consideration for others is their moto. They come here because good weather and the help programs in the city. Something must be done and soon. We also need a new major like yesterday.
I’m hearing a lot of different languages on the Bart now, the tourists seem to be coming back..
This report conflicts with a report last week that said every other city was up at night because they have a nightlife
Now this cheerleader report says San Francisco night life is back?🤔🙄
John's is a tourist destination. People that can barely afford to live there. They are not going to John's
The last time I went to John's Grill was back in the 1980s. I was there for a business function and the organization booked the entire room.
I think that the restaurants and bars that survived the COVID Lockdown and hybrid work environment are seeing more business because they are getting business from the restaurants and bars that closed. Fewer choices now.
Almost no restaurants and bars closed in the neighborhoods. Only downtown had mass closures due to the tourists being gone for two years. Now tourism is back at 90-95% of pre-pandemic and the touristy areas are starting to pick up as well. SF had 23 million tourists in 2023.
Lower rent so many more companies can be in SF and also let them implement hybrid work....so that 56% daytime downtown population feels like at least 80% to 90% again
Using cell phone data to track us? oh...how wonderful.....
courtesy of Palantir. rich people have cell phones... so...this tracks the movement of the upper class. this is what KPIX thinks recovery is like.
Doesn't have to be individual.
They probably only get the information how many devices are logged into particular cell towers at particular times of the day on different days.
..and cell service providers are tracking your phone anyways.
So happy to hear this! I love my city by the bay! It’s my home. San Francisco is a city that constantly reinvents itself and always bounces back.
It is quite beautiful at night time. The lights, buildings are historic and beautiful.
THE HYBRID OR AT HOME MODEL ARE SO MUCH BETTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH!
I just like the fact that that guy John will name his son John as well for the continuity of family ownership
The freaks comes out night lol 😅
AI workers are restocking SF buildings.
She called San Francisco a town when it is a city.
All zombies have phones
Why do people still stay or go SF? Homeless and drugs everywhere.
Everyone is moving to Mexico! I just got back and all the Burning Man tech bros burn outs from the Bay Area are living there full time. So many ex SF folks there.
From your keyboard to gods ears
Stop the crimes and everything will come back. We used to have all the big conferences but they stopped coming due to crimes.
Crime has gone down a large amount in the past years. The FBI, CHP, and local cops are going after drug dealers heavily now. DA is now prosecuting them. Things are improving, but going to take a couple years.
"School of cities" lol wtf
