- I did not want the oval air cleaner on my Harley Davidson Softail Heritage Classic 114. I wanted to do an unbranded round air cleaner.
In this video I install one. Hope you learned something.
Thanks for watching.

More cool motorcycle things. Thanks for watching.
nice job keep up the good work
Thanks. Appreciate the comment.
Round looks nicer than the oval air cleaner.
Agreed, Its a cleaner look and not so flashy. Thanks for watching.
Looks old school cool to me. A little cautionary tale about slipons for you. I have the same bike in vivid black. I thought I wanted a better sound so I bought some Vance and Hines eliminator 300 pcx slipons and installed them and went for a ride. They looked awesome and sounded great. Here's the bad part... I had a noticeable loss of my low end torque and more vibration in the handle bars. This bike was really happy with the stock exhaust so I put it back on and me and my heritage ate happy again. $800 mistake. I think the vibration was because the Vance and Hines are like half the weight of the stock bullet mufflers. Just my experience. I still love Vance and Hines just not these slipons on this bike.
Thanks for the comment and the info. Hopefully I didn’t make the same mistake. I already ordered Vance & Hines PCX slip ons. Should be here soon. I went with the Twin Slash though. Not sure what the difference will be. Stay tuned. Thanks again.
Hopefully they will work out for you. I'll be interested to see how they perform on your Heritage.
@@SirJonathan439 Yeah. I sure hope so. I will say the Heritage has way more vibration than my previous touring models. I know the motor is rigid mounted with 2 counter balancers. I find 5th gear at 65 mph is pretty bad so I’m shifting into 6th a lot sooner than I would normally would. Bike seems to prefer lower rpm’s
Same here with the vibration. I only have about 500 miles on mine so far, just got it a couple weeks ago. I'm hoping as it breaks in things will smooth out a little. I absolutely love this bike anyway. It shakes way, way, less than my evo powered 1993 fatboy did.
@@SirJonathan439 Nice! I am right at 600 miles on mine. I am loving mine also. I decided to do all my own work on this one to learn as much as I can about the bike (and save some money too). I’m a bit nervous about doing the 1K service but I know when that’s done I will have gone through the whole bike. That will be a good feeling.
NOW YOU NEED SOME RINEHART EXHAUST
Too loud for me. Vance & Hines Twin Slash Slip ons is what I’m thinking. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for recommending this vid. The round AC cover looks old school, love it. Did you end up having to flash the ECM?
@@RNintheTrenches I did not. The M8 114 is capable of learning minor changes like air and slip on mufflers. I’ve got about 1400 miles on the bike now. Next week and pull a spark plug and see how they look. That should tell me if I’m running rich or not. My gas light consistently comes on around 182 miles.
@@TheSonofHarold Be interesting to hear how the plugs look. Not sure why the low fuel indicator light would illuminate when you still have a cruising range of 182 miles. My mpg has varied from a low of 42 mpg to a high of 51. Into a strong headwind with the windshield on is when I can get into the low 40’s. 51mpg was wind at my back at consistent highway speeds.
@@RNintheTrenches I’m saying my fuel light comes on after I’ve traveled 182 miles on a full tank. Then it switches to reserve and shows about 47 miles DTE (distance to empty) totaling roughly 230 miles per tank of fuel.
@@TheSonofHarold I understand now. Thats spot on what my gauges read as well.
you need slip on mufflers next
I agree. Coming soon. Thanks for the comment.
I LIKE THE STOCK ONE BETTER. THE ROUND ONE LOOKS TO BIG
Yeah. I really like the round one. That older look.
