The page where Kuma's life flashes before him is so well done, I don't know where to even start. The fact that it shows Kuma running and huffing just like he has been struggling through his whole life. the way he lowers his head as if he's flinching when he remembers Ginny, the fact that his run is mimicking the Nika dance as if he's trying to encourage himself with the only source of hope he ever wished for. I think this my favorite page of the year if not the whole manga
I interpret the running away is because if the government confirmed that he was seeing her while still conscious that they’d take even more pains to capture her and turn her into a slave. For example when she got caught by sakuzuki he was told not to touch her because of the deal Kuma had with the government. Edit: I also heard that there’s been issues with his health especially recently, so he is starting to speed up in the hope that he can finish OP entirely. But I don’t know more than that
A perfect ending to the flashback. Everything is tied together perfectly. And I cried multiple times. I cried at the Kuma running panels, I cried at Vegapunks (who I think has been an underated character so far), words to Kuma and of course at Bonney crying and Kumas wish for a happy 10th birthday. My favourite little panel is the one of Vegapunk on his knees after he pulls the switch, just in absolute agony and despair.
Bonney hanging out with a bunch of wolves and all the Nika references reminded me of the silhouette of Luffy looking like Nika dancing with the wolves around the bonfire in Skypia.
The panel that got me the most was definitely the running panel. Seeing him so desperately always rushing to the next cause or loved one trying to save what he could with no thought to the personal costs. You can see how it takes a toll on him through his life where he's clearly running in the first two parts, but then it's like he's pushing against storm winds in the 3rd part. Finally, in the 4th part he's fully leaned back and is clearly sprinting with everything he has left despite being exhausted. It's just so beautiful and yet tragic to see. Also, the new idea of what Kuma might do is that Saturn's cruelty may come back to bite him personally. A lot of people are thinking that Kuma may pull an "Android 16." If that doesn't make sense, it's a DBZ reference where a android also had a self-destruct mechanism and tried to use it as a double-suicide attack. Basically, some are theorizing now that Kuma may show up and take Saturn out with the very bomb he ordered to be planted in Kuma's head. Poetic, but still heart breaking and I also want Vegapunk to get that one up on him still.
What broke me was how pure kuma still is after everything he's been through,i hope luffy & co,finds out about kuma backstory & acknowledge his sacrifice or recruit bonney as strawhat!...🤧

Vegapunk mentioned that he "... Invented a circuit for the brain that allows one to switch between two states of consciousness...". I suspect he went ahead and put that in Kuma but had the trigger for it be the Drums of Liberation, something he knew Kuma believed in fully.

I often tell people i can cry whenever I want. I just need a few minutes before. That's because if i think about one of one piece's backstories and itll make me cry. Kuma is easily one of those stories that will make me cry everytime.
Kuma was keeping his word to Saturn, but it does seem a little unnecessary at some level. But it's also the thing that differentiates him from Saturn, so the sentiment in a storytelling idea is pretty strong.
The moment the authority chips for Pacifista of anykind were introduced, I never doubted Vegepunk would have hidden some kind of hidden middle-finger failsafe in them, against the WG - so I totally am with you on that !!!

What I want to happen is for Kuma to get his memories back even for a little bit as he arrives on Egghead in front of Saturn and Bonney. And then Nika appears in front of them and just absolutely demolishes Saturn. Kizaru would also probably switch sides or at least not act on the WGs side because he doesn't want to hurt people he cares about. Oda has been building this up the entire arc for Kizaru.
I think vegapunk did defy Saturn in the cheeky way you mentioned. Seems like a long time ago but a big part of egghead arc was that vegapunks execution had been ordered. Maybe it was because after developing the mother flame he had served his purpose or maybe this chapter shines a light on the reason for the order. Kuma mentions the memories disappear when touched so presumably they’re gone now that Bonnie has touched them. Thank goodness she was afforded that catharsis. I’m sure kuma can still have his humanity restored. Maybe vegapunk has a back up and can upload it straight into his consciousness. Tying those two possibilities together, I can see a scenario wherein kuma fights Saturn, Saturn says ‘fuckit, time to self destruct’ and presses the button. Only for the next panel to be vegapunks face having the same smirk as kanjuro did in his betrayal reveal and that’s how we learn that vegapunk did in fact defy the elder stars. I think vegapunk was originally a candidate for the revolutionary army and it was just the funding that drew him towards working for the government. This would be a good time to switch sides.

Yo new theroy is that Saturn made vegapunk installed a bomb in kuma, so when they fight kuma will hit Saturn with the pain bubble hurtting him and finishing him out with a nuke Making that the big event of taking down a gorosei
I don't think Oda would mention a self-destruct mechanism for no reason. I like the idea of that being what kills Saturn. His arrogance is what led him to want it installed in the first place and it will ultimately be his downfall as Kuma triggers it or something else triggers it in him and he dies but takes Saturn with him.
The Bubble is unfortunately gone, Vegapunk made a device for taking peeks without touching, Bonney touched it, we even see Bonney where the bubble was at the last panel, even if Vegapunk had planned to do this with the bubble originally he'd rather die than admit it now and make Bonney blame herself for Kuma's death. What could happen is him using punk records (which he started building after what happened to Kuma wink wink) to connect Bonney's mind with all the pacifista plus the original to move the memories from her to every kuma and pacifista turning them all into Kumas which would honestly be enough military might to compete with the world government entering the final phase of the story
After seeing this chapter, I want to say that if Kuma, as well as Bonney, had been presented as much more minor characters, then I probably would have been inclined to say that they would get a happy ending by the end of Egghead. But the fact that Oda has pushed this much development with Kuma this hard, presenting him as a self-sacrificing character willing to do anything for the people he cares for and passed on the story of Nika to Bonney, I’m inclined to think otherwise. Keep in mind, this is the same manga that had Ace get killed in front of Luffy after he went through hell to save him, and Toko laugh at Yasuie’s death after she ate a Smile fruit. I also get the feeling that Oda tends to not really focus on death unless it’s meant to forward someone’s storyline or have the stakes feel more personal. So if Oda had the plan of having Saturn kill Kuma while trying to save Bonney, and then Bonney inherits Kuma’s will to liberate people like Nika did, then I think that would stay true to the feel of the manga and not be out of place. So I suggest this not because I don’t want Bonney to have a happy ending, but to suggest how Kuma’s death may further Bonney’s story to a more developed level considering how much Egghead has focused on her up to this point. I think that as long as Bonney is with people like Luffy, the new Nika, then I think a happy ending for Bonney would still be possible. Whatever happens, I’m sure Kuma would be happy too, knowing his daughter is with good company.
Sorry to say, the memory bubble is likely gone now - Bonney touched it when she viewed his memories. She absorbed the memories and thus, they no longer exist for Kuma to retake. :< That said, there's a theory where Vegapunk swapped Kuma's real memories with that of the ancient robot which may still come in to play. Personally I think that the whole theme of memories being inherited may end up with S-Bear perhaps having taken in some of the memories that are Kuma's and saving Bonney even if he doesn't really know why. I'm actually predicting that there's one more letter that they'll find on Kuma's body after all is said and done, which will finally allow Bonney to know her father's last words to her. No matter what, Oda has primed the story to go any number of ways. It's going to be a wild ride!

Bonney first tried contact but couldn't bare it. Then she tried again and in the ch1078(?) We saw her within the bubble crying as she's absorbing the memories. At the end of the flashback the Bubble was gone But the original memories are still within Kuma Also I think Oda was waiting for this flashback to unfold so we can get Bonney's mental state before going back to the events we skipped during the one day timeskip.

Also Kuma specified he wasnt removing his memories, just copying them so returning them, even if they could be, likely wouldnt have the desired affect. I'd love to be wrong

Kuma’s memory bubble is confirmed gone since Bonney touched it, but Vegapunk’s already seen all his memories with the technique he came up with to view but not touch. Maybe he “transcribed” the memories and there’s a personality switch in a PX model Pacifista or something.
I took the switch comment to be a way to show that vegapunk was against the idea (and show Bonney he wasn’t responsible for her losing her father) But I’d love for it to come into play with the satellites! The memory bubble cannot disperse and go to its original owner because Bonney touched it and that is what allowed her to see her dad's memories. Also I doubt Vegapunk would have cried that much if he really went past Saturn and made some sort of backup.

@booksandtropes I believe that all the Pacifistas (except maybe for the Seraphim) will have a self-destruct function and not just PX-0. PX-0/OG Kuma will definitely attack Saturn on instinct. Saturn will push the self-destruct button, and all will explode, which will screw him over in the end.
Also I think why he didn't meet her was the mental abuse from Saturn saying "I will ensure she will be a slave for the rest of her life" he probably got reminded of Ginny and all it takes is 1 slip up like with her. And it will be filled with eternal regret.
I've been enjoying the memes as well but I am a bit saddened. I really think Oda has kept the hand of Monkey D. Dragon to close to his chest for too long, knowing the meticulousness of Oda I assume he has the moment for when we first see Dragon to make himself known, and make his moves with the Revolutionary Army already planned in 'some fashion.' To the fan-base? Yeah, it's already too late. Really with the biggest mistake being Dragon being hand-cuffed by Oda's unwillingness to still reveal the exact fruit he ate and what powers he specifically has control over. He did this to a lesser extent by withholding on showing the true strength of Garp until Beehive, and he's certainly done this with Dragon. So when that time comes for Dragon and the moment Oda felt was needed to show exactly what Dragon can due, fans will only look at that scene as, "...well where was this before, Dragon?!"

What I want to happen is for Kuma to get his memories back even for a little bit as he arrives on Egghead in front of Saturn and Bonney. And then Nika appears in front of them and just absolutely demolishes Saturn. Kizaru would also probably switch sides or at least not act on the WGs side because he doesn't want to hurt people he cares about. Oda has been building this up the entire arc for Kizaru.
I think vegapunk did defy Saturn in the cheeky way you mentioned. Seems like a long time ago but a big part of egghead arc was that vegapunks execution had been ordered. Maybe it was because after developing the mother flame he had served his purpose or maybe this chapter shines a light on the reason for the order.
Kuma mentions the memories disappear when touched so presumably they’re gone now that Bonnie has touched them. Thank goodness she was afforded that catharsis. I’m sure kuma can still have his humanity restored. Maybe vegapunk has a back up and can upload it straight into his consciousness.
Tying those two possibilities together, I can see a scenario wherein kuma fights Saturn, Saturn says ‘fuckit, time to self destruct’ and presses the button. Only for the next panel to be vegapunks face having the same smirk as kanjuro did in his betrayal reveal and that’s how we learn that vegapunk did in fact defy the elder stars. I think vegapunk was originally a candidate for the revolutionary army and it was just the funding that drew him towards working for the government. This would be a good time to switch sides.
now that we've seen (presumedly) all of kumas memories, do you agree with Vegapunks attempt to stop Bonney from seeing them? Part of me says no she needed to know the truth another part of me realises how traumatising it must be for a freking ten year old to see all of that, let alone experience it all in one go.
Yo new theroy is that Saturn made vegapunk installed a bomb in kuma, so when they fight kuma will hit Saturn with the pain bubble hurtting him and finishing him out with a nuke

I don't think Oda would mention a self-destruct mechanism for no reason. I like the idea of that being what kills Saturn. His arrogance is what led him to want it installed in the first place and it will ultimately be his downfall as Kuma triggers it or something else triggers it in him and he dies but takes Saturn with him.
The Bubble is unfortunately gone, Vegapunk made a device for taking peeks without touching, Bonney touched it, we even see Bonney where the bubble was at the last panel, even if Vegapunk had planned to do this with the bubble originally he'd rather die than admit it now and make Bonney blame herself for Kuma's death. What could happen is him using punk records (which he started building after what happened to Kuma wink wink) to connect Bonney's mind with all the pacifista plus the original to move the memories from her to every kuma and pacifista turning them all into Kumas which would honestly be enough military might to compete with the world government entering the final phase of the story
This chapter must be the saddest piece of still media that I ever experienced.
After seeing this chapter, I want to say that if Kuma, as well as Bonney, had been presented as much more minor characters, then I probably would have been inclined to say that they would get a happy ending by the end of Egghead. But the fact that Oda has pushed this much development with Kuma this hard, presenting him as a self-sacrificing character willing to do anything for the people he cares for and passed on the story of Nika to Bonney, I’m inclined to think otherwise.
Keep in mind, this is the same manga that had Ace get killed in front of Luffy after he went through hell to save him, and Toko laugh at Yasuie’s death after she ate a Smile fruit.
I also get the feeling that Oda tends to not really focus on death unless it’s meant to forward someone’s storyline or have the stakes feel more personal. So if Oda had the plan of having Saturn kill Kuma while trying to save Bonney, and then Bonney inherits Kuma’s will to liberate people like Nika did, then I think that would stay true to the feel of the manga and not be out of place.
So I suggest this not because I don’t want Bonney to have a happy ending, but to suggest how Kuma’s death may further Bonney’s story to a more developed level considering how much Egghead has focused on her up to this point.
I think that as long as Bonney is with people like Luffy, the new Nika, then I think a happy ending for Bonney would still be possible. Whatever happens, I’m sure Kuma would be happy too, knowing his daughter is with good company.

Sorry to say, the memory bubble is likely gone now - Bonney touched it when she viewed his memories. She absorbed the memories and thus, they no longer exist for Kuma to retake. :<
That said, there's a theory where Vegapunk swapped Kuma's real memories with that of the ancient robot which may still come in to play. Personally I think that the whole theme of memories being inherited may end up with S-Bear perhaps having taken in some of the memories that are Kuma's and saving Bonney even if he doesn't really know why.
I'm actually predicting that there's one more letter that they'll find on Kuma's body after all is said and done, which will finally allow Bonney to know her father's last words to her.
No matter what, Oda has primed the story to go any number of ways. It's going to be a wild ride!

Mariejois, God Valley, Revolutionary Army secrets, and all he has been helping Vegapunk with all sitting around for someone to take. After saying all that I'm reminded that Caribou is still on the island and keeps overhearing dangerous information and a Blackbeard ship was spotted right off the island not long ago.

8:00 i had a different interpretation of that scene because the Bubble is actually gone. Bonney first tried contact but couldn't bare it. Then she tried again and in the ch1078(?) We saw her within the bubble crying as she's absorbing the memories.
At the end of the flashback the Bubble was gone
But the original memories are still within Kuma
Also I think Oda was waiting for this flashback to unfold so we can get Bonney's mental state before going back to the events we skipped during the one day timeskip.

unfortunately this chapter addressed Kuma's memories. Bonney touched the memory bubble so its already gone and i imagine it only lasted as long as it did because there was no 'kuma' to return to. Also Kuma specified he wasnt removing his memories, just copying them so returning them, even if they could be, likely wouldnt have the desired affect. I'd love to be wrong

Kuma’s memory bubble is confirmed gone since Bonney touched it, but Vegapunk’s already seen all his memories with the technique he came up with to view but not touch.
Maybe he “transcribed” the memories and there’s a personality switch in a PX model Pacifista or something.
I took the switch comment to be a way to show that vegapunk was against the idea (and show Bonney he wasn’t responsible for her losing her father)

@booksandtropes I believe that all the Pacifistas (except maybe for the Seraphim) will have a self-destruct function and not just PX-0. PX-0/OG Kuma will definitely attack Saturn on instinct. Saturn will push the self-destruct button, and all will explode, which will screw him over in the end.
Also I think why he didn't meet her was the mental abuse from Saturn saying "I will ensure she will be a slave for the rest of her life" he probably got reminded of Ginny and all it takes is 1 slip up like with her. And it will be filled with eternal regret.

I've been enjoying the memes as well but I am a bit saddened. I really think Oda has kept the hand of Monkey D. Dragon to close to his chest for too long, knowing the meticulousness of Oda I assume he has the moment for when we first see Dragon to make himself known, and make his moves with the Revolutionary Army already planned in 'some fashion.' To the fan-base? Yeah, it's already too late. Really with the biggest mistake being Dragon being hand-cuffed by Oda's unwillingness to still reveal the exact fruit he ate and what powers he specifically has control over.
He did this to a lesser extent by withholding on showing the true strength of Garp until Beehive, and he's certainly done this with Dragon. So when that time comes for Dragon and the moment Oda felt was needed to show exactly what Dragon can due, fans will only look at that scene as, "...well where was this before, Dragon?!"

I know I won't get this... not just because they're despicable people, but I want Jaygarcia to die from Kuma's self-sacrifice. I know Oda however, if that God-damn bastard that is Perospero (as much as I love "Pe-ro-riiiin") not be taken out by the sacrifice of Pedro. I don't see Kuma's likely demise to actually kill off a character I assume Oda is saving for the final arc. Again, I don't JUST want this as a means of vengeance on behalf of Kuma but to see the beginning of Imu's 'house of cards' built from the shadows to start to fall. The Gorosei realizing how dire the situation is when one of their own has been taken out.
I also have a bit of a side-theory really based on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that I bet each of the Gorosei and Imu are a bit of a shared vessel and would feel some pain transferred between each of them. No, not expecting them to all die but... you know, blood from mouths, writhing..., to show they're more of an assimilation of corruption. Yes, before anyone states I do know Jaygarcia has shown that the Gorosei are not a hive-mind and can do/think what they please and each have their own personal goals, doesn't exactly mean they haven't made a pact to Imu to connect them in a physical way that may explain their additional powers and theorized eternal-youth.
Side theories based on nothing but vibes are my favourite theories
