I always found it weird that other countries rank their universities. Here in Denmark, we don't really do that. Only reason one might prefer one university over another is usually because of location and the amount of people attending (or sometimes a certain programme is only offered in one university). Also university is free, and you get paid app. $800 each month for living expenses. I love Korea but I'm glad I grew up and got my education in Denmark. I don't have a father or any grandparents, and my mom is a cleaner at the hospital, so I feel like my future would have looked very different in Korea or the US, for example. I think all education should be free, worldwide. Why? Because only an informed society can make smart decisions, can select smarter leaders, etc.
interesting prespective, I am egyptian and I would say they kind of rank it this way because of the funding is different depending on how many foreign students attend (as education is supposingly funded by government here) and also depends on research and university rank internationally. so I suppose in your country the different isn't that big.
Same here in Germany! There are few situations in which some people might rank universities (mostly for their own needs and wishes) but super rarely for prestige reasons. People sometimes even have a harder time explaining why they still deserve their graduation when they went to an expensive private uni for example 🥹😂 as if their parents simply bought their academic status. But not everyone is like that fortunately c:
The pressure on high school students seems too much for kids. While I get that you want your kids to be successful, everyone grows and matures at a different pace and if you force kids to study constantly instead of expanding their horizons, they won't have a chance to find out what they are good at and will likely end up in a job they hate in a life they hate. I was lucky enough to have a parent that understood this and my father supported my choice not to go straight into college. Instead, I took my time and found what I wanted to do, which ultimately lead to a more successful college life and a much happier life overall.

That's right Dan. I'm so glad you said that. They're so many other careers out there than just being a Doctor, Lawyer or CEO. The elderly generation is not in touch with this, which is why they think, well, if you're not a doctor or a lawyer then you have to be a ditch digger cuz what else is there? Everybody is smart, talented and gifted in different ways. We need to pay more attention to that. It shouldn't always be about getting super rich. People should get more enjoyment and fulfillment out of their jobs. Korean society needs to relax and not put so much pressure and misery on kids. Life is too short.
There does seem to be alot of pressure for all students in Korea to be academically inclined. Other countries look at a holistic approach to learning. focusing on indivuality and nurturing not just the academic approach to learning, as all children are not the same. The focus of raising children is to allow them to explore what they are good at and supporting them in their choices, whether that requires a University degree or a trades certificate. Trends in employment opportunities are constantly changing where a University degree may not fit what is needed. Some trades will always be needed and quite often there is a higher demand for these skilled individuals, who will quite often make more money than a person with a University degree. Some people seem to think having a University degree, which I have, makes you a smarter individual. I only went to university because I required a degree to work in the field of my choice. It didn't say I was any smarter than someone without a degree. It only said that academically I could achieve this. I knew many trades people who made alot more money than me and didn't have the large student loans to pay back, plus they had more opportunities in the job market. It makes me angry when I hear people say that they would not have a relationship with anyone who didn't have a University degree like themselves. If you look at some of the most successful people, Bill Gates for example, he did not have a University degree and he did just fine. Being individualistic, motivated, creative and have the understanding that thinking 'outside of the box is ok is how children should be raised to become healthy and successful individuals who enjoy what they are doing and ultimately contributing to society.
Even if the university is very very far from my life now (I am a granny) it is with pleasure that I listened to this vlog. I have learned that Korean university life has nothing to do with k dramas. Thank you Dan and this lovely young man ❤️❤️❤️🤗
Thanks for sharing this! Korean university life sounds interesting, yet all that social pressure (to drink and drink, to join a school club) sounds daunting. Is it ever possible for a Korean university student to *not* do those things? 😅 what if the student can't drink alcohol at all because of a health issue?
This was fun to watch. I taught at Korean universities for over 20 years and it's nice to know that things haven't changed much! :D I always loved teaching first-semester freshmen! I watched them turn from high school students to young adults. You were right about the drinking culture, but the students who did the best were the ones who figured out how to balance their study-life with their party-life. One thing you didn't mention was foreign teachers, especially foreign English teachers. Maybe you could do another video with students of all ages talking about the good and the bad of having a foreign English teacher vs a Korean one.
This was informative. Thank you for giving us a look at what a Freshman experiences at University in South Korea. Also, I appreciate you explaining how much pressure to study to pass the SAT in South Korea. In Jamaica 🇯🇲 we study a lot to pass our exams which are by subjects. High school in USA is 7 1/2 hours plus 1/2 hour lunch my grand son is in high school and he is in around 6 am and is home by 2:30 pm. Your clubs In university sounds like college soroity cubs in USA. All high school students take the SAT test as well. Everyone can go to college but your SAT test results can determine if you het into the College/ University of your choice.
Let's be honest, the doing activities part is just an excuse to get together and drink. Oddly enough, I feel like American high schoolers care less about school than Korean high schoolers, but American college students are much more serious than Korean college students. Maybe it's because most college students are either forced to hold grades for their scholarships or are racking up obscene debt while in college, so they don't have time to party and drink.

Hey, this culture of yours buying juniors food and drinks matches and also the CC one matches our campus culture too from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 I laughed out loud as my ex and I used to be one 😂😂 yeah some things are really relatable like globally! And Yeah campus clubbing is super fun at least our university also got this custom , we need to join uni clubs after getting enrolled. Thanks for the video I hope whoever needs some infos would get benefited by it 👌❤️
Nice and very informative video about Korean University culture. But really school timings are so long. I would like to learn Korean language. 😊 👍 It's interesting
1) What if people are able to enter any university? Or, does the government help 100% of people to study at college? Here, it's not expensive to study some careers in some private universities. So, I would like to know about that part of your society. 2)I think clubs help people to integrate not only at college with peers but also as a new young person in the societies intrinsic. 3)Here, you don't have that much money for going out after the clases. How about there? I mean, will you invite your peers if the can't afford it? I know here beers for sure. 4)Here, you might be able to get a dormitory room but there are few so people either commute 1 to 2 hrs (4 per day), move to live relatives or rent something cheap near college. How about there?
Danny what about technical/trading schools are they a good option if can’t get into an university. Like here in the States the demand for electricians, welders, plumbers etc. is so high and they get paid as much if not more than anyone with a college degree. Recently while driving I saw a hiring advertisement billboard looking electricians with a sign up bonus of $10k with a hourly pay rate of $60-$80. I was in shock. I know cost of living in Korea is different from here but I live in the country side of PA and cost of living here is cheaper than the big cities and in my town a job that pays you $60-$80 per hour is good money.
Universities in Jamaica have loads of events come to think of it educational institutions here have 5-10 events a month. I paid for loads of activities, trips, and events for my nephew this year it was so hard keeping up 😅😂 thanks, Danny ❤
So one thing you definitely learned at university is 'drinking"!😂 Very interesting vlog Danny and many thanks to Shinu for all the informations!🥰 I found many elements in common with Greek universities but also several differences. For example, clubs aren't very common here, and seniors don't buy freshmen lunch! In 2 years my son will also take exams to enter the university and I try not to put too much pressure on him, but what he wants to do is very difficult and it needs a lot of study (veterinarian), also there is only one university in our country and it is 680 km away.😔
@@simonefrieborg Yes unfortunately it's very far!😔 It's very difficult to become a veterinarian, but he wants it so much, he deals with animals, raises them, takes care of them and knows so much about their health that I don't want to discourage him or clip his wings. I try to be there to support him and suggest other alternatives in case he doesn't make it.
These days more stress for study teachers pressure to study 📖 for students your son so great to prepare exams veterinarian so cool but 680kmsare so far away 😮
The way I kept checking your Insta story so that I don’t forget to watch this video😂 School finishing at 4 then there’s after classes I’d die😭 I told myself since High school that I’d never date someone who attends the same school as me😂 same with work
Thank you for the information on studying in Korea. Your poor parents must give it all to get you into university. Didn’t know it’s that expensive 😮 but it does sound like you had a good time beside the intense studying :)
Just came across this video and i really wanted to pursue my arts studies in korea. But not sure which University is for which. I want to major in B.A animation and design (involves animation, design,VFX).pls do recommend some collages😢
I forgot adding when people here does not have money to study or scholarship they end up working in a supermarket, manufacturing, etc where no experience is required. 🙂
Thank you for this video.I have met a young Korean on line and we've become friends.I now appreciate how much effort and hard work he does as a student since he's also working part time to support himself. I'll try my best to give him moral support, which is the best I can do now, as he achieves his goal by graduating next year.thanks again for this wonderful and enlightening video.just subscribed.take care❤
Loved this video! I’m currently an expat English teacher in Korea, and while I’ve never been a student here, I am positive that many, if not most, foreign exchange students would appreciate any and all attempts to reach out. Noraebang, dinner, festivals, movies, walk around campus…even after a year living here, any little invitation I’ve received from a Korean (which are few and far between, though I’m not sure it’s fair to compare full-time job schedules with student ones, both are different and produce unique challenges) has been a nice memory, sometimes even a special memory. In school or in work environments, do you have suggestions how to propose activities with Korean colleagues or people you meet in other social places (like church) and would like to spend time with? Sometimes as the foreigner, I can be shy in trying to propose something, as I’m worried I might make a cultural faux pas, or come across as insistent, or impose on limited free time they would spend with other friends or their personal lives. Also, as a girl, it can be a bit awkward knowing these boundaries as well, especially regarding colleagues who are guys…is it appropriate to propose meetups, is there a specific way recommended, or is it best left avoided or wait to see if it’s proposed by someone else?
Hello Dan, I'm a new subscriber, and I wanted to express my appreciation for the excellent content you create. I was wondering if you might consider collaborating with a foreigner living in Korea to share their experiences and insights. It could provide an even broader perspective on life in Korea. Thank you for your time and for the great work you do. Best regards.
Thank u for this content❤ very helpful. U made a video before about dont expect life in korea to b like a kdrama. I was wondering When i watch stray kids candid vids they always show them being very affectionate and cute toward each other , is there any truth or reality to those gestures among korean male friends? Or r idols special cases? Im from the states and that would not b considered normal for guys here. Obviously theres exceptions but in general its not commonly seen. Is being affectionate commonly seen within male friend groups in real life??
Thank you for this fascinating info. So far I've only heard about the long hours in school and really can't imagine having to spend all those hours, unless it's a boarding school. How do the seniors have so much money to treat freshmen? Or is it a different senior everytime? Have not heard of this anywhere else (except in the comment from Bangladesh:)
We’re looking into colleges for Comp sci for my Jr Highschooler here in the US and there’s some univ who offers going out of country like South Korea in Seoul for few mos in their univ. Are the lectures all in English ? and how college culture is like for foreign students? Thanks for your input …

Hey Dan, I love your videos and I am your new subscriber, I want to know that what are the opportunities for foreigners in south Korea for chartered accountancy jobs? i have searched on net but wasn't satisfied because there wasn't much information. i have heard that the salary of chartered accountant there is approx. $13k/month, is it true? Please reply, or make a video for job opportunities for foreigners in south Korea. Thank You.
Doesn’t alcohol destroy brain cells and is a depressant.Drinking too much every time as a student sets you up for a hard, pathetic middle age and old age that is if you live that long. Alcohol industry wants to capture people as young as possible to make profits. Alcohol doesn’t solve problems but it definitely makes all health parameters worse .Any addiction will make mental health worst.
Hi from USA/guacamolepink: thank you for discussing this topic. Student life sounds so tough! Following Shinu on Instagram, he did so well. A topic or questions I have - Are job interviews done with 3 to 4 candidates in the same room, at the same time, so they can hear each other’s answers? Does the job seeker sit far apart from the interviewer? Do resumes include a picture? Sorry, these are based from K dramas, so I am curious if this is real in life. Thank you.
Thank you Shinu for joining! check out his instagram also : instagram.com/11daydreams

Very interesting content guys great job Dan keep it up kiddo ❤❤❤
Let's be honest, the doing activities part is just an excuse to get together and drink.
Oddly enough, I feel like American high schoolers care less about school than Korean high schoolers, but American college students are much more serious than Korean college students. Maybe it's because most college students are either forced to hold grades for their scholarships or are racking up obscene debt while in college, so they don't have time to party and drink.
Thank you for your videos. They are always so pleasant, and informative. I enjoy watching them. I wish you and your friends much success. ☺ 동영상을 보내주셔서 감사합니다. 항상 매우 즐겁고 유익합니다. 나는 그들을 보는 것을 좋아합니다. 나는 당신과 당신의 친구들의 많은 성공을 기원합니다.
This was good information, i have a cousin that is interested in going to College overseas! THANKS DAN & SINU🙏
Danny, Shinu is good people. I'm glad you interviewed him. Good luck in your studies, Shinu. 🙋🏻♂️ 🇺🇸🤝🇰🇷
dang.. 10pm class haha. In the Philippines, parents will definitely sue the school for being this strict xD
Happy... everyone so happy... no care in the world... great....
Thanks for the video I hope whoever needs some infos would get benefited by it 👌❤️
Dan, this was VERY informative!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Nice and very informative video about Korean University culture. But really school timings are so long. I would like to learn Korean language. 😊 👍 It's interesting
1)
What if people are able to enter any university?
Love and support form Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩
Wait for this new vlog long time finally 🫰🫰🫰😇
Danny what about technical/trading schools are they a good option if can’t get into an university. Like here in the States the demand for electricians, welders, plumbers etc. is so high and they get paid as much if not more than anyone with a college degree. Recently while driving I saw a hiring advertisement billboard looking electricians with a sign up bonus of $10k with a hourly pay rate of $60-$80. I was in shock. I know cost of living in Korea is different from here but I live in the country side of PA and cost of living here is cheaper than the big cities and in my town a job that pays you $60-$80 per hour is good money.
it's good that u r trying different videos style
I feel like Australian university life is so laid back compared to koreas
In saying that it would also depend on what degree you are doing i guess.
Universities in Jamaica have loads of events come to think of it educational institutions here have 5-10 events a month. I paid for loads of activities, trips, and events for my nephew this year it was so hard keeping up 😅😂 thanks, Danny ❤
Hahahaha uncle Danny with adorable nephew vibes.
He keeps saying that it's been a long time since he graduated from university but he doesn't say exactly how long!!😂😂😂
@@mariavogiatzidaki2998 Could it be that telling his graduation year would reveal the secret of his hidden age?😊
@@swethadharanikota Exactly!👍🤣
@@mariavogiatzidaki2998 🙌👏👍🤣🤣

Lots of love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
So one thing you definitely learned at university is 'drinking"!😂
Very interesting vlog Danny and many thanks to Shinu for all the informations!🥰 I found many elements in common with Greek universities but also several differences.
Veterinarian. So cool. But 680 km are so far away.
@@simonefrieborg Yes unfortunately it's very far!😔
It's very difficult to become a veterinarian, but he wants it so much, he deals with animals, raises them, takes care of them and knows so much about their health that I don't want to discourage him or clip his wings. I try to be there to support him and suggest other alternatives in case he doesn't make it.
@@mariavogiatzidaki2998 I wish him the best of luck. Either way, your son is lucky. He has you.🫶
These days more stress for study teachers pressure to study 📖 for students your son so great to prepare exams veterinarian so cool but 680kmsare so far away 😮
My niece went to Korea for University and left after 2 weeks
The way I kept checking your Insta story so that I don’t forget to watch this video😂 School finishing at 4 then there’s after classes I’d die😭 I told myself since High school that I’d never date someone who attends the same school as me😂 same with work
Hmm, so interesting…this reminded me of the time while studying in Taiwan…almost the same…it’s just different in the terms used…cool…
very interesting and great info Danny 👍😊
Come with me is written on the side .
My question is : is it possible to socialiser in korea if you don t drink alcohol at all ?
Thank you for the information on studying in Korea. Your poor parents must give it all to get you into university. Didn’t know it’s that expensive 😮 but it does sound like you had a good time beside the intense studying :)
This was really interesting!
감사함니다... 잃게 비디오 만들어게 많이 도움이 것 같아요😊
Those are very long days for education. When do families get to spend time together? Do you see much of your family when you are studying?
Hello Dan,
I'm a new subscriber, and I wanted to express my appreciation for the excellent content you create. I was wondering if you might consider collaborating with a foreigner living in Korea to share their experiences and insights. It could provide an even broader perspective on life in Korea.
Thank you for your time and for the great work you do.
Best regards.
Hi! I'm moving to South Korea in a couple months and I'm wondering how you're able to tutor privately? I thought it was illegal there
Thank u for this content❤ very helpful.
Your English accent is perfect. Have you ever lived in the U.K?
We’re looking into colleges for Comp sci for my Jr Highschooler here in the US and there’s some univ who offers going out of country like South Korea in Seoul for few mos in their univ. Are the lectures all in English ? and how college culture is like for foreign students? Thanks for your input …
good morning Dan!!!
Yeah, this interview is so I would say professional 👍 informative, up-to-date and exploring personal experience. Thank you so much Danny ☺️ My special thanks to Shinu🌷
신우 잘 생겨따🔥🔥👍
What happens if you don’t do after school classes? Are there penalties? Can you still graduate from high school?
instead of "clubs" the sunbae culture sounds more like sorrorities...even with the drinking...😅
Thanks guys. Really interesting.
Good luck with your studies, Shinu and hope you get lots of tutoring requests.
Best wishes from the UK. D
Where are you? Busy with your restraunt? I miss your videos
If you don't mind I'll join your question. We haven't heard from Danny for a long time. I hope he's doing well.
Hope Dan is doing alright 🥹
I’ll be back with a video tonight🙏🙏
Look at what I'm going to suffer from oh God
Dann plss do you think kaist is a good university for international students for computer science?
stop I thought you guys had a filter 😭😭😭
What's your favorite class Danny.
Two Korean people why they speak English 😅😅
Wow you feel like an uncle to that kid? I know you didn't reveal your age in a video from 2+ years ago but I'm getting more and more curious. I'm 33 as of today. Lol
Thank You.
1300k pkr sorry
💚🤗
Good
Doesn’t alcohol destroy brain cells and is a depressant.Drinking too much every time as a student sets you up for a hard, pathetic middle age and old age that is if you live that long. Alcohol industry wants to capture people as young as possible to make profits. Alcohol doesn’t solve problems but it definitely makes all health parameters worse .Any addiction will make mental health worst.
Nah !!!!!
Are you Christian brother??
I love Dan's video content because it's so candid and realistic.🫶
Hi from USA/guacamolepink: thank you for discussing this topic. Student life sounds so tough! Following Shinu on Instagram, he did so well. A topic or questions I have - Are job interviews done with 3 to 4 candidates in the same room, at the same time, so they can hear each other’s answers? Does the job seeker sit far apart from the interviewer? Do resumes include a picture? Sorry, these are based from K dramas, so I am curious if this is real in life. Thank you.
