I work in a pressing plant - the reason why most glow in the dark records sound pretty crappy is because a metal oxide powder needs to be mixed with the PVC to make them glow. Metal oxides can't melt with PVC so they stay suspended in the PVC extrusion and it's basically like baking sand into your record. We experimented with a technique to use one central piece of oxide doped PVC surrounded by pure clear PVC, the sound quality is much better but too time consuming to ever be commercially viable. The whole glow in the dark think is for novelty use only IMHO.
totally loved this..was not bored at all.. I am loving the glow in the dark vinyl, never knew it existed til recently when I saw the GHOSTBUSTERS glow in the dark vinyl, very cool. I want to track down a couple glow in the the dark records. We have some great used vinyl stores here in Montreal, gonna do some searching.. thanks for the video. Kirk.in Montreal
Thank you! Sounds like you watch both of them. I have some more cool videos planned for the near future (or at least by late summer). Thanks for subscribing
Variation in light output and duration is also due to the type of pigment powder used. The old and cheap glow in the dark pigment is zinc oxide which fades quickly and needs a higher ratio of powder to PVC, therefore worse sound quality. Strontium aluminate is much brighter and longer lasting so much less has to be added but it's a fairly recent invention. Green is the most efficient color, orange is generally too dark to be useful. Blue works ok but green is best.
OMG your so lucky to have all of those Glow in the Dark vinyls. I really want to get a bunch more for my collection. I only have a Michael Jackson Glow in the Dark. I've been collecting Record Albums since 1974. Thank you for the great video. Philip.🤩😍🥰
I was going to mention that record. There are so many glow-in-the-dark that I could have gone on for another 10 minutes talking about the ones I don't have in my collection. So many records out there ;)
Loving your videos - and crazy vinyl! There is a Yellow Dog 7" of "Little Gods" that glows, can get that cheap of eBay and a Sarah Brightman & Steve Harley "Phantom of the Opera" 7" too. ✌️
Mannn i'd love one of my albums to be printed on a record! Anyone can produce an mp3 and burn it to a CD but there's something special about having your music on vinyl!
I didn't realize glow in the dark records was still a thing until I saw your video. I was a heavy record collector in the early punk days and still own a glow in the dark UK import on Virgin Records called Moving Targets by a band called Penetration. I also have a UK sampler album for The Label that's a picture disc with an elaborate and colorful Medusa head which has many glow in the dark elements.
James Martin ☢️ Hi ! ➡️ Moving Targets 🎯 by Penetration # V 2109 On Virgin Records !!!! Mine Still GLOWS In The Dark after 40 years !!!! ( 1978 Release ) It's a great Album too !!!! 🎯➡️ ☢️ Cheers !! 🥃 Andy 🎸 O'Neil 🎩🍀🕷️😎 🖖
Another great video!! Love how you edit it all together. And don't give a shit about other complaining it's not all about the music. Design is an intrigal part of this whole experience and the inner ocd nerd wants it!
I've only got one GITD 7" but there is pressing of Perturbator's Dangerous Days that I think glows red and is rare and sold for a lot these days. Too bad they sound noisy.
Another great video man. I always love how much you talk about design as it's something that interests me a lot too. P.S: Have you seen my Flaming Lips EP yet? ;)
I love your videos so much. You seem like the nicest person and such a soothing voice. How many records do you own roughly? Amazing taste as well. Can't say enough.
+Cesar Juarez-Vargas - well, they were average price when they came out, at least. No idea about which ones might be overpriced (I know the Beach House one is, though)
There is one vinyl I wanted to preorder, and it was glow in the dark, so I wanted to check if they sound bad (like picture disks). I got my answer! Thanks. I will order the colored version instead.
GOZER'S DEN you can scan bar codes with the app on albums that have them, which makes it go faster but yes it's time consuming, what's excellent about it and why I tell my friends with large collections to do it, is...it gives you 3 estimates of the value of your collection. Which makes it easy to have estimate for get your collection insured
I have Warren Zevons Excitable Boy on Glow in the Dark the worst sounding album I own it sounds like some played it with a four inch nail stylus before I brought, bad seriously bad 😂

Tim, this was seriously really cool. Excellent presentation. LOL, loved the 'liner notes' at the end. :)
You found your name? ;)
car headlights make glow in the dark things really bright.

I forgot to show the cover glows in the dark, as well
Loved this video and the rest. Subscribed

I was going to mention that record. There are so many glow-in-the-dark that I could have gone on for another 10 minutes talking about the ones I don't have in my collection. So many records out there ;)
Well that was totally nerdy and awesome and thank you for that.
no problem! ;)
Loving your videos - and crazy vinyl! There is a Yellow Dog 7" of "Little Gods" that glows, can get that cheap of eBay and a Sarah Brightman & Steve Harley "Phantom of the Opera" 7" too. ✌️
Love it. Thanks again. Keep that crazy shit coming!
***** Hi Stephanie!
Swing Kids put out a gitd 7" but the run was really small if I recall correctly, so you hardly ever see them these days.
Very awesome!!!
I loved you in the TV show "Frazier."
ha! Hey now!
Mannn i'd love one of my albums to be printed on a record! Anyone can produce an mp3 and burn it to a CD but there's something special about having your music on vinyl!
indeed

Fun stuff. And, thanks!
Wow.. Awesome glow in the dark records. I didn't know they excised.... And then you have A LOT of them :).. Very cool Tim.
thanks! I appreciate it
I've only got one GITD 7" but there is pressing of Perturbator's Dangerous Days that I think glows red and is rare and sold for a lot these days. Too bad they sound noisy.
You can put vinyl in player and turn off light just use your mobile phone light. You can see beautiful light when it turns around
that is so cool
thanks! I appreciate it
I have that Kraftwerk record. Didn't know about the rest of these. Thanks for this!
thanks for watching and subscribing!
Yeah man! You have some AMAZING stuff, as you know. And I almost wish I didn't know about Jack White's reissue of the Voyager disc (sigh). :-)
ha - thanks
I believe the Poltergeist lp set you have is taken from the Rhino/Turner Music cd release and not the Film Score Monthly release.
I wonder if they have other colors
Just get a glow-in-the-dark vinyls too: molochukr.bandcamp.com/merch/moloch-wyqm-split-12lp-color-vinyl-marble-only
Another great video man. I always love how much you talk about design as it's something that interests me a lot too. P.S: Have you seen my Flaming Lips EP yet? ;)
Indeed! Gimme
I want that kraftwerk record
I love your videos so much. You seem like the nicest person and such a soothing voice. How many records do you own roughly? Amazing taste as well. Can't say enough.
ha - I'm used to complaints. Thank you so much for the kind words!
Big Fan of Krwaftwork.. Didn't Know they had fun vinyl.
I had a 12 inch copy of the foo fighters single this is a call that glowed in the dark. Think it was their first single.
thought ghostbusters was the only one
Damn cool.
thanks! I appreciate it
I have the Carl Sagan but didn't know it was glow in the dark!
Yours glows in the dark? Dude. I'm jealous. I only have the black vinyl version. I want that one so bad...
Love the Ramones tribute art at the beginning!!!
thanks - a friend made that and I've been using it ever since
GOZER'S DEN Thats radical!
he's a cool dude
fun! :)
What do you think is the cheapest glow in the dark record around
no idea, really
yeah, that seven inch would be a great prize!
Indeed. thanks for watching and subscribing!
I bet the average price of those records are within (200-500 US). Brrrr!! Very cool, but a bit too much for glowing fun. =)
+Cesar Juarez-Vargas - well, they were average price when they came out, at least. No idea about which ones might be overpriced (I know the Beach House one is, though)
I only have one glow in the dark record, a 7" from a New Zealand metal band, Beastwars. Unfortunately the sound is really crappy.
Yeah, some of them don't sound great. I wonder what makes them sound a bit different from other colored vinyl?
There is one vinyl I wanted to preorder, and it was glow in the dark, so I wanted to check if they sound bad (like picture disks). I got my answer! Thanks. I will order the colored version instead.
Can you make a list with the glow in the dark vinyls?
+Leo Punk you mean of the ones I show in this video?
Yes this would be nice.
Do you have a discogs account and a list of your collection
No, I don't. I should. Seems like it would take a lot of time to set up
GOZER'S DEN you can scan bar codes with the app on albums that have them, which makes it go faster but yes it's time consuming, what's excellent about it and why I tell my friends with large collections to do it, is...it gives you 3 estimates of the value of your collection. I wish I had the drive to do it.
So in person, is the glow in the dark prominent or does it vary?
oops - just saw this. Varies quite a bit, really
Have there been any 7" glow in the dark records?
tons!
Hey Buddy, Does this sound isn't so good as black vinyl? I
I want one now lol!
thanks for watching and subscribing!
wow that was delayed! your welcome! sub back if you havent yet
SecondHandHunter done and done!
cool thanks bud!
I have Warren Zevons Excitable Boy on Glow in the Dark the worst sounding album I own it sounds like some played it with a four inch nail stylus before I brought, bad seriously bad 😂
Which factory does this?
I'm sure someone has asked this before, but are there glow in the dark records in different colors? ( like besides the classic light green glow)
ghoul in the dark lp is gonna be blue i believe.
Yeah, one of my other videos shows a blue glow-in-the-dark record
I don't care what people say... I collect colored vinyl also.
i got the mars voltas 'frances the mute' on glow vinyl and it sounds terrible. super novel but not good for sound at all
yeah, they don't usually sound very good, sadly. I don't have that one. Too expensive to by secondhand
i do admit i overpaid, but some exceptions ae made for some all time favorite records
KISS Creatures of the night reissue glow in the dark vinyl, like you'd give a fuck!
Lmao
Thanks for sharing but you use glow in dark vinyl in wrong way
haha - you mean like I show in some other videos. Yeah, this was a silly attempt to do something unusual
where did you get your poltergeist record from?
pre-ordered when it was announced
do you know if there will be any more lathe cut records from ariel pink or the xray records from golden boots?
No idea. Watch the PIAPTK record website
