Tim, I completely completely agree with you. I remember thinking that it would have cost an absolute fortune to get the already elaborate and expensive packaging done with some sort of paper that illuminates a starfield when in sunlight.

That’s hilarious. I thought it was some special glow in the dark paper sir something. I don’t even know if that was 109% their intention now that I know what it is. It sound like he just found a happy accident. lol
I left mine out in the sun as well. A couple of times. And put a hair drier to it. And took apart the whole album just in case so I am SO very relieved to find this video today and to find out that no, Bowie did not leave me out of the cosmic loop.

I got excited and put it up saying "expose to sunlight" before realising he had meant to do what you have done in the video. By then it had all kinds gotten out of control. Do you think this was even done on purpose? I'm guessing its just an interesting quirk in the way the sleeve was printed and the stars visible from the front is pure accident.
As a designer, with the fact that there is no text on the inside of that part of the gatefold, it's likely it was on purpose, like the fact the deconstructed star actually spells "bowie" but it might have been a mistake

I was silly enough to go get out a lawn chair and put my Bowie Blackstar jacket there in the sunlight then kept checking on it :\ I eventually read enough articles to realize that shining a light behind it is how it worked so took the cover back inside :P it's still cool though [especially in this video!] :)
No you got the black version, because you couldn't get the clear version. It was artist site only and sold out before most people even knew he had an album coming out. Not getting the clear was not a choice lol.
