  • At the U23 rowing world championships, this spectacular sweep four (M4-) dominated everybody. The top three boats were so fast that there was open water between bronze and fourth.
In this video, I am looking at #tandemrig and why it makes a lot of sense.

I love this GB boat too. THey have incredible swing together with their upper bodies on the recovery. This swing is probably the winning element. In the GB 4- the bow, 2, 3 are using the Ferryman's Finish. THe big guys in 2 and 3 and the Bow are using the arm pull to pull their upper bodies/trunk out of bow at the finish of the drive. To do this effectively you have to have a strong finish with blade work that doesn't wash out. Stef Bronick did this in the single 2019. THe Dutch double did this at Tokyo. Melvin Twellaar did this in the single at the 2022 European Champs. It helps gets a big body out of bow easily and can up your stroke rate 1 to 2 spm. You learn it by rowing feet out. Try it on the BioRower. See what the force curve is. Is it different from keeping the shoulders firm as you pull in your arms. Its all about keeping force on your feet as you pull in your arms. Awesome analysis!! BTW go back to 1972 Johaan Farber, Oliver Zeidler's Grandfather in the German gold medal 4+ made the Ferryman's Finish famous. He was a big guy too.

Would love to see a comparison between the Australians and the British with the point you were talking about with how the best style is a balance of the two. Love your work Aram
