I’ve done 12hr nightshifts for going on 10 years now. The biggest key is if it’s available to you try to maintain the same sleep pattern even in your off time. It makes things so much easier.

Yep. I worked 10-7, needed to go to the gym at 7pm so I get some daylight early, before work because going after work was not happening. Night shift really messes you up hormonally and fatigue wise, but there are ways around it.

Great video. 6-6 worker. Wake up around 2 PM, workout , eat large breakfast meal then go to work. Have dinner around 10pm, go home around 6 AM.

Great topic to address! Indeed, we have different schedules and sometimes the night shift is what hinders someone to get into the best shape of their lives. A little guidance is always great!

I have been working 12 hr night shifts coupled with an hour hr drive to work one way. So a minimum of 14hr days when i work.
I find that on the mornings i work off i get in bed around 8 am and get up around 1130 am. I sacrifice that sleep so on that 1st night off i make sure to get around 7 1/2 to 9 hrs of sleep that 1st night and i dont feel like crap on my days off

This video great for me as I only work 12 hr nights 7-7 🦺
Helpful tips for me is i keep a 25 pound weight at my work desk underneath & i always bring 2 sets of resistance bands with me as they are easy to pack up & it assures me that i always get my workouts in at my desk.
I always bring 1 or 2 protein powder bottles for work too.
I walk frequently too as my cardio at work.
Also invest in a walk up step for cardio it works great to burn calories.
I'm fortunate my nights off work in the day my condo has a little gym it only has a few machines but it allowes me to be creative as i don't want to pay for a gym membership.

My schedule consists of getting up around 10pm getting ready have a small meal like a protein bar.. head tot work work for 8 hours (I have to meals at work) then when I get out at 7am I head to the gym and train for about 1-20 mins then head home have my meal and around 2pm I start getting ready to go to bed.. being consistent is really all that matters

I'm watching this on nightshift rn lol
one thing i found extremely useful is trazadone. I take preworkout after my shift for energy in the gym and i take trazadone once I'm done training as melatonin on its own is not enough to knock me out. i take this with melatonin and magnesium and get great sleep. it also comes in handy when switching from nights to days.
Backout curtains and white noise like a fan are also crucial for me when I'm sleeping for nightshift

Me personally I'm not shifting from days to nights then back to days, I'm permanently on night shift and my thing is finding the perfect time for the supplements. My hard workout is after shift and after a light breakfast.

yeah its struggle. I work 12's. ER nurse 7p-7a with a 1 hour 1 way commute. work 8 on 2 off 2 on 2 off repeat. so it is hard to time everything. i got to were I do pushups, situps, squats several times during the shift. and I lift on the 4 days off. I just trying to lose weight(recomposition). makes it even harder is I'm diabetic. so he is correct. meals at night don't digest the same. I try to eat my big meals either right before work or in the first 2 hours. rest of the night is just protein drinks. eat last meal no later than 5:30 am. I am now working on sleep hygiene because I just would not go to bed right away.

Night shift is about consistency. Do not try and do both. Either be nights or days and maintain that schedule even on your off days.
