    This is awesome but why the huge video only to go to some sort of strange negative view of the final result?? Can we see the proper normal colour version please ? :)

      oh hang on, there is about 1:50 through... fair enough. But still: less of the negative effect :)

    man next time you guys make such a video, make sure you dont add any video effects. it ruins the video and kills the mood to even watch it. we want to see what youve built, not the effects came with the video editor.

    Always heat both leads and then apply solder. The way you solder leads to cold solder joints and vaporizes the flux. Google for "ersa solder guide" for a pretty much okay guide.

    It's relatively easy to reduce the size of the PCBs inside the globe. E.g. by using smaller ICs and SMD technology. For this globe all PCBs are etched by hand and we couldn't go smaller.
    The picture(s) are 'out of sync' on purpose! In other words, it's just a number in our code which steers the rotation speed of the image - and this number can be zero.

    I think you will have less problems with mechanics in case of using thin FR4 PCB with small SMT components instead of heavy throuh-holes.

    Very cool, you could make it even better by getting the control board out of the center of the sphere...this will allow you to see the pixels on the backside of the transit ( use clear acrylic for the led arc ) .. to do this you would need to extendthe shaft above the the top mount and attaching the pc to the shaft outside of the sphere...

    Looks good. Who sells these? If it could have LEDs inward as well to add depth to give the perception of a 3D hologram that would be better. The 3D printing community could view their .stl files before building them and show their models off.

    What did you use for the commutator? The ones that I have been able to find are only good for 60RPM but for displays it needs a min of 1800RPM. Thanks for any assistance or pointing me in the correct direction of a high speed commutator.

    • @kleetus92
      @kleetus92 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could use carbon brushes, they're used in electric motors of all sizes with slip rings and commutators, or you could also do it AC, and use a fixed magnet with a rotating coil. Spin it up, give it a few moments to charge a capacitor, then the internal parts run from that.

    You can run the motor at integer multiples of the frame rate in the camera to avoid interference. (aka got a cam that records at 30fps. run motor at 30 rev/second or 60 rev/sec....)

    I see, at first I was like "why is it rotating at slower/faster speeds?" then the video explained and I was like "ohh like a fan on video" but 1 thing: why isn't there a protective shield to prevent curious little people from losing fingers? Also, I personally would code the designs-or at least generate code for the designs using code. :)

    Bis auf die billigen Video Effekte ziemlich geil!
    Das mit den seltsam blinkenden LEDs im video liegt nicht an der Framerate der Kamera sondern an der Belichtungszeit, hätte man die länger eingestellt wäre das bild zwar ganz leicht verwaschen gewesen aber das Blinken wäre kein Problem mehr gewesen. Aber ich denke eure verwendete Kamera hat diese Einstellung nicht gehabt, die haben meistens nur Systemkameras.

    Puh, rotating on a different axis: There is an difficult/impossible (A) way and an easy one (B) IMHO.
    A: Spinning the same axis and image rotating another one. The mc is too busy to compute this online and hence you have to save a slide show of images and switch between them in some time. Besides some other technical issues you will run out of memory (32 kB) really soon. One image has 200x40 pixels with 1 byte color depth, i.e. you need about 8 kB per image.
    B: Somehow produce a rotated image.

  • @Subparanon
    @Subparanon 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you want to better capture the motion without frame rate sync interfering simply lower the shutter speed of your camera. Many camcorders have a night mode (not the IR mode) or low light which will decrease the shutter speed and smooth out the lights.

  • @Splinter4077
    @Splinter4077 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know it would be much more difficult, but is it possible to make a globe without the chip spinning inside(or at least a smaller one)? Like- send the frame/refresh through a single connection from the top/bottom, and each LED could respond to a different frequency signal.. wouldn't that be cool? You could send complex, real animated pictures!
    Another question, have you ever synchronized it so the pictures don't spin?

      @147andreluiz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      this was my first thought... how get the power? even if you make all the circuit outside and use just the leds inside the globe, you need wires... and how get the wires inside while turning? I think a battery inside is be a good idea...

    • @CarlosEstebanLopezJaramillo
      @CarlosEstebanLopezJaramillo 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did one but not globe, just plane clock, if i had time enough i would use a rotary transformer but i had to use a battery to make the deadline, search what is a rotary transformer, i think it's the best way if you can find one, buy or get it from an old VHS.
