Petrified wood is so cool
Very cool Petrified Wood Specimens! I love the lengthwise cut!! It really shows the details. Sweet polish job!
Very nice cutting and polishing on the petrified wood. Love it! Yes, please do a giveaway and a chance to receive a piece of your awesome work! 😊
Thanks! Will do!
I love all of your petrified wood
The long one is my favorite
I love that long piece & the agatized piece! I can't wait to see the finished polish on them!
Hopefully in January I'll have them done!
Great looking pieces of jasperized wood! That piece with the heart in it is really nice. Love the agatized chunk too, I can see the growth rings in it. Montana wood is so cool!
It's crazy the variety you can get. I wonder how many different species from different time periods there are in the Yellowstone River.
@@RockhoundingLife yes there are a lot! There's tropical trees like palm wood and cycads. And metasequoia/redwoods. And temperate forest hardwoods like oak and sycamore. I've identified quite a few just from watching all the montana rockhounding channels. I study and work with trees for a living so it's very interesting to me. So many different climate changes in the last 200 million years in North America.
@@mitchgillilan It's super interesting. We have tropical cycads here in Nova Scotia from the Jurassic. They are limb casts though, not petrified. We also have early carboniferous trees (lepidodendron, sigilaria) that are carbon film type fossils.
Wooow amazing
The First piece looks like it is Fresh wood. Color & grain make it look so Beautiful. It was almost shocking to hear it clink when you put it down. Mind plays tricks & my ears expected the clunk of fresh wood. Those are Fabulous pieces..
I noticed that ping too! Its unique
The darker wood is very similar to what i found at the Mx/Tx borfer not too long ago. So happy i found your channel thanks for the education!
Welcome aboard! And thank you!
Wow! GREAT JOB 👍. Maaaan you Really know how to get those in showmanship condition.
Thanks!! I appreciate that!
wowzers Jason! that 2nd piece is awesome! to have the pith as well is super rare from what i’m told. You need a digital microscope now and get some closeups lol! super polishing job too! Thanks Kim for hooking our guy up!
Thanks! Yes I think you're right because I haven;t see many example with the wood pith that I can recall. The only other one is a polished piece that Montana Rock Mom gave me as well last year. Really cool!
Jason, what a nice selection for cutting/display. I think your shelf might need to get a sub-title: "This shelf complements of Kim!"
HaHa! Yes, well there is only one up there from her right now but that is bound to change in the future! I think I am going to upgrade from the shelf into a bigger display case.
That yellow Jasper is really nice.
PW is just so dignified looking.
100%
ID love half!😊
Nice cuts on the wood👍Beautiful Jasper! Great video brother!!
Gorgeous
Wow!! Came out great!!!
Thanks Pam!!!!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Daaaaang. That long one would make an amazing small shelf if it was slabbed about an inch thick. The patterns are insane. I have the same saw and just fired it up in my basement. I noticed it sprays pretty good so I made a plexiglass enclosure. Have you noticed any excessive water flying off yours?
I've never seen a vibrating lap... and holy moly... That thing is AWESOME.
I don't have an issue with splashing water. So you have the splash guard that came with it? It is good for preventing t
Any excess splashing.
@@RockhoundingLife I built the plexiglass enclosure. I noticed mine was spraying some water to the sides when the water hit the rock from the blade and some water was spraying out towards the back of the saw. The plexiglass enclosure was something I built myself. TH-cam doesn't have a good function to post in the comments what it looks like, but I have a video where I cut some thunder eggs and I show it a bit.
What a great shine. The combo of laps worked out really well for you. There a good video on lapidary saw dressing from Currently Rockhounding you might like. Montana Rock is the best. The pet woof is wonderful but I'm partial to jasper and it came out super. Keep the goodness coming. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
Yes I have seen Jared's video on that. It was very interesting. I usually get a long time out of my sintered blades. I have a grinding stone that I use to sharpen them. It works great at removing access metal and exposing more diamonds.
@@RockhoundingLife 😁
Nice!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice polish.
Thank you! Cheers!
I would send you guys lots of petrified wood but I only found out about your channel a couple months ago.
Where is your petrified wood from?
Excellent video and amazing rocks!!
Good luck and thank you for the wonderful video you uploaded!!
Thank you!
Your rocks do sure look pretty when they're all polished :) I need to do another expedition to hunt for petrified wood
Love petrified wood!!
Gorgeous pieces!!!
Thank you!!
My great grandfather carried out a huge stump of petrified wood (it took him several days) from the Petrified Forest (in the1800s) and it has been passed down in the family to me, since I've been picking agates and other rocks for over 50 years. I've thought about polishing the top because it has amazing colors and contrast, but it will be left untouched. I've found that round pieces of pet wood do well when cut lengthwise and both pieces of a beautiful thicker one about a foot long are in my personal pet wood display case.
That sounds amazing!! Making a trip to the yellowstone river area is on our bucket list for sure!!!
@@RockhoundingLife I've been there several times over the years. Even if you have to drive to remote locations, do not pick where others frequent. That goes without saying, but with so many people visiting, 4.8 million this past year, do your homework and get away from people. The rivers flowing in and through Yellowstone that are outside the boundaries of the park can be just as good, if not better. The best pet wood I've ever found, and the highest quality of the jasper I've seen is in OR. My son in law and daughter lived there in the past and in the right areas it is amazing. Such a diverse state as well. But, for the most part, I've always been a Lake Super agate picker.
Wow, enough said!
LOL

Thanks and welcome!
I like that plseas give away even small.of that
Batu yang bagus
Thanks!
Those look great. I suggested to Kim a couple of weeks ago that se make tiles out of pet wood and do a backsplash or something with them, I can't imagine the amount of work that would be. It would look really cool though. Every time I start one of your vids, for a quick second when I hear your tumbler in the background, I think you're getting hailed on or sleet. First time, I was almost halfway through the video before I figured it out.
Ha!! Yes the tumbler is always running. I actually try to remember to turn it off while filming but forget most times. It's background noise that i'm so used to now.
You're right that is an awesome idea to make tile out of the petrified wood. It would be very cool but also very time consuming. Probably good for a hobby side hustle. Not mass production.
@@RockhoundingLife I have seen commercially made PF tiles sold online from Indonesia. They have a few factories that make a lot of different products from PF
Beautiful stuff. Can you tumble that smaller, favorite piece? I found when I put on a new blade, I cut my agates first because a not so sharp blade might add some fractures. And I think if you cut slow, the blade last longer, maybe. Love you videos.
I thought the same thing about tumbling it, but I don;t want it to get too rounded. I want to preserve the look. It would be perfect for a vibratory tumbler but my lot-o tumbler is too small.
Could you write what type of blade you had? Thanks for sharing the project and the polishing plans.ibreally loved the final agatized darker piece. Beautiful. Remember splashing water is full of rock dust, i suggest cleaning up carefully for long term lung health.
It was a 10" Rigid sintered blade. About $50 at home depot. Thanks for the clean up tip. I've worked in the mining industry for the past 25 years and have recieved a lot of dust control training. But you can never be too careful!!!
For the piece that you didn't cut, check with a company that makes grave markers. They may cut it for you, bigger and heavy duty equipment.
I know a couple of guys with bigger saws that i will probably take it too. I have a bunch of other bigger rocks I need to cut as well. We don't have any local lapidary or rockhounding clubs that I know of.
is there is a difference between petrified and fossilised?
looks to to me just like a fossil original wood has been replaced with minerals.
( i am dutch )

Cool video! I found a bunch of petrified wood in the South of Argentina. It glitters and shines. Any advice on what to do with it? Thanks!
Yes, trade me a piece of it!
@@RockhoundingLife I'm in Argentina.
Thats ok. Can you send me a pic of your pet wood to rockhoundinglife@gmail.com
I found the Jasperized pet wood is unusually hard. Just cut a few pieces the other day. The grain was not as cool as the piece you cut. Curious, do you use the miter saw in the background to cut rock?
Yellowstone river rocks are probably the hardest rocks i have ever cut. I dread cutting them. They take their toll on the blades.
I dont have a miter saw so it was either my contractors who does work around the house or it was something else, like my lathe possibly? Thanks for watching!!!
If you were going to polish it by hand it would be OK I guess would you mind up tumbling that with some larger stones to polish it all up
I think its too big
Are you using Dimond blades ,should cut that easy
Montana agate and pet wood is some of the hardest material out there. Super tough on blades.
Wow? No auto feed on your saw
I wish!!
I'm looking for a buyer for some huge stumps and log pieces of petrified wood, I have photos and measurements
Send photos and details to rockhoundinglife@gmail.com
Not squished I think. Tumbled thru ice and rivers. What part of MT,
Around Billings in the Yellowstone River
They look like very expensive Spanish dried porc and horse cured ham
You kept calling the darker peice agatised but I couldn't see any agate banding. Agate is not a mineral. It is a pattern in chalcedony.
Agate is a form of chalcedony. As is jasper. There are many forms of chalcedony.
I hope that the video clip will be translated and explained into Arabic. Thank you very much
Hi tech is trash bruh
Affordable. Easy to use and I can get the same shine as more expensive brands.
