  • Since I don't know the service history of my new Troy Bilt, I thought it would be a good Idea to go ahead and give it a full 50 hour tune up. The parts for this were super cheap Less than $25.00 for everything.
The mower runs better and now I have a point of reference for when to do the next service. Next up... Oil change!

I am 70 years old and hate depending on others for anything. I love my little pony but the upkeep on it gets nerve racking. You sir have been my guardian angel. Thanks so much for showing me how to fix my minor problems when they arise. Your appreciated more than you probably knew.❤

Thank you I just bought a used lawnmower same model. I am pretty handy for a female. My Dad used to drag me out in the garage and showed me how to do minor things on a car. Watching these videos and reading the tips by others are helping me learn how to work on my own mower. Thank you it's a huge help!

Great video on an older pony. I cant find any videos on the newest pony. Different motor w/filter, different deck has wheels now, many different features. An very easy to install hour meter is only ten bucks. Also a battery maintainer is inexpensive and the battery will last longer when not in use. Wish someone would do a video on the newest model.

Figured I'd say something. I just retired a TroyBilt Pony from 2005. I live in Florida so the grass gets cut at least weekly. I used it to pull cars around my property, to tote trailers of mulch and trailers of crushed stone. It got used constantly and I did the maintenance frequently and the variator bearings every few years. It got to the point where it would not move and the variator was always the issue. Eventually the deck rusted through and that got a Craigslist restoration with some license plates and some rattle can black. Looked factory!!
Last year on about the fourth pass in my front yard the deck split in the middle and became a trencher. I was stuck - frozen in time. I had to take the deck off to move the mower.
I had been looking for awhile and was hesitant because mine still worked. I took off ALL the stuff that made it a mower and still use it to pull my garden trailer.
I bought a new tractor and think I did well with my choice. A Craftsman T2200 replaced it. Hydrostatic drive, cruise, tight turn radius, hour meter, forced lubrication system and best of all, very comfy and easy to operate.

These Ponys are a real work horse. Not only do I use it for cutting my lawn, It has great pulling power and I use it to move my boat around the yard and also a large utility box trailer. This thing will not bogg down at all. it will dig and spin the tires long before it looses any motion. I put a trailer hitch on it the back and a counter weight on the front because It will pop a wheelie before it stops moving. Very Strong pull on this Lawn Tractor. Love this thing. Got it in 2013 and it is still a beast!

Get a pip extension screw in the oil plug and screw on a cap put seal tape around the threads. Then put the oil drain tray under it >what it does get it away from the engine block enough there it will drain in the tray> Dam tie rod not going to let ya extend it all the way out from the frame! A good chance it will break the pipe off> Might try that put a wooden block under the pipe> Means you would have to add more oil to the engine for the pipe

Love the video... but I need help... I've changed the oil faithfully every season but but this year it stopped running I knew it needed a new battery and thought the spark plug could stand to be replaced. So I bought the new battery and the spark plug and brought them home. Switched up battery just fine. Used my 5/8 socket and took the old plug out. No problem. But I had a really hard time getting new spark plug to start in the threads. I struggled and struggled with it. I finally got it started and it won't tighten all the way in. I even took it back out and put the old one back in to see if I had bought the wrong spark plug size but the old one wouldn't thread all the way back in either. Should it screw all the way in? I put the black cover on it and it snapped.. But it won't start start. What am I doing wrong? I can only get it about halfway in and I cannot turn it anymore.

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

Sadly, you have cross threaded the spark plug into the hole. That means is was a little cockeyed when it got started, and as you tried to tighten it, you literally cut new threads into it.
That is not good. It's also why it won't go all the way in. I wish I had a video on how to fix it, but you'll have to just search for 'how to fix a cross threaded spark plug hole.
      Good luck!

@Ashurii yeah I know now but at the time not so much. We needed a new one it was a good name brand on sale and boom. It looked a lot beefier in the add. Hell I thought my brother got the wrong one. It was not as good as the Bolin's of the same size we got new 5 years before that one.. My yard is really hard on mowers to begin with. I got a tank of a mower now a old Dixie chopper XWK 2503-60

@@fracturedhearts3734 I'm sure he didn't pay a lot for it. Seems to be in decent shape and if he could pick it up for 150 bucks, that is a good deal to me.

These do appear to be "Budget mowers", but I will take it as a challenge to keep it going for a while.

This Lawnmowers suck, they have a lot of problems and they are not worth the money you spend on them.
    Don't waist your money!!

I don't know about that. I bought a used one at a yard sale 10 years ago for $400. Still works great and all I have done is change the oil every year and put gas in it. It has been bulletproof.

I can't believe that he pulled the spark plug and did not check the gap. You always check the gap. Just taking a
look at it and saying it looks fine is incompetency.

Enjoyed the video. I live in Wisconsin and wondering if I can leave the tractor outside during the winter with a tarp over it

You can, I would disconnect the battery for the winter and make sure the tarp is tied down really well. I know the winters there are no joke
