    My boyfriend is Chinese, I met him when I went on a study trip around different cities in China and he accompanied us. He was not shy, he spoke to us all confidently even though he was not fluent. Despite me being the same height and possibly a little taller than him, it did not falter his interest in me nor his confidence. He is humble and modest though, he may have grown up as an only child but he is not spoilt at all. He is traditional, he likes shy, innocent girls and he found those qualities in me, he would not invade my personal space, he is really respectful and it was even difficult to get a hug out of him! However, we often linked arms when we walked together. Like most Chinese men, he treats his girlfriend like a princess, I did not expect this but he was such a gentlemen I couldn't resist his kindness. He cares most about my health, I never hear the end of how warm water cures all haha He encourages me to sleep and rise early, nap often (common Chinese habits that are principles to maintaining health). He is a university student, he does work very hard and studies well but he also knows how to balance this with his social life and when to have fun with friends. He is a family man, it's so important to him, in the summer he will visit his grandparents every weekend and help them whenever they ask but he is like this to anyone. His parents are really accepting of me, I have never met them but he told them about me even before we were officially a couple lol His mum has recently bought an apartment that she said I may use if I ever visit which I think is incredibly kind (bfs and gfs don't stay together before marriage normally, he lives with his parents). Being incredibly close to a Chinese man, I just wanted to share his personality and qualities so you can see how, for the most part, he is not very stereotypical at all :)

      Chinese guys rarely approach white girls because we are all sons of multi millionaires and billionaires. Many white girls are working minimum wage jobs to pay off their student loans. Some of us believe that if we were to pick up a white girl, she will rip off the bloke surreptitiously and discreetly.

  • @merinsan

    I think the main reason is family.
    Chinese guys are under a lot of pressure from family to marry a chinese girl.

    • @theia1653
      @theia1653 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yep. It's the epitome of selfishness and hypocrisy. Excuse me, but why is it any business of the parents who their son marries? It's *his* wife and his lover, right? So shouldn't it be what he wants? But they wouldn't mind if their daughter brought home a white guy? For a collectivist culture, it sure produces a lot of selfish and callous people. Not a good system.

      A Thought Crime
      Old habits take a long while to die. Traditional Chinese culture dictates that the man is the breadwinner of the house and head of the family. In the last 200 years, White men have been seen as powerful entities worthy of Chinese respect because of the military might they brought to the last, crumbling Chinese Dynasty in the 19th and early 20th centuries. As such, Chinese families generally believe that if a Chinese girl marries a White man, she will be well taken care of. By contrast, White women were rarely seen and were assumed to be submissive to White men, so Chinese families have no afforded them the same amount of respect. This means they doubt the ability of White women to fill the “wife” role traditionally expected in Chinese culture and strongly discourage Chinese men from marrying White women.
      Mao tried to dismantle this pre-industrial culture multiple times, but he was never completely successful by force. In recent years due to globalisation and improving lifestyles, these traditions are being slowly eroded away. In the major cities along the Chinese coastline you’ll find that a lot of these ancient sentiments have cooled to the point of a irrelevance, and the notion of Chinese men marrying White women is more acceptable. The poorer interior of China is not as progressive.

    • @theia1653
      @theia1653 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Avalanche Good, but not good enough, and it may be too late for me. It's not just that traditional Chinese don't see white women as wife material for their son, but rather it's really more about preserving the culture and bloodline and so they can get a free servant. They, and especially Asian women, feel very threatened by white women.
      My mom tries to dissuade me from liking white girls and tells me they're too precocious (so?), too sexual (so?), too high maintenance (I'll take my chances), too big (not to me), and even said I can't 'satisfy' a white girl (I kid you not). No. I will always like white girls more, to the day I die. Something has to change, I can't stand these people and I can't stand this culture. Being a provider isn't attractive to women either, they don't want that until they're older and ready to settle down, and even then they still may not have respect for these kind of men so masculinity in the east is very different than in the west.

    Another reason is that many Chinese men prefer feminine women, but most western women are not considered very feminine in Chinese men's eyes.

    • @MK-vk9eh
      @MK-vk9eh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I'm an Asian guy whose girlfriend is a westerner, and I find myself more attracted to white girls. So I agree with you that this does depend on each individual's preference, though I'm often viewed as a "non-typical Asian" to the eyes of my Asian fellas...
      From my point of view, western females not being considered very feminine by Chinese men actually hints a pretty sad phenomenon of lacking confidence when it comes to handling westerners. This might come from the body size, or poor English, etc. Plus the generally more reserved social patterns, it would be quite challenging to find a Chinese guy with enough courage to go after western girl. And I believe this also turns off a lot of western girls because, based on my personal experience, I find that western girls actually look for more masculinity in a man than do Asian girls.
      By the way, you look stunning in that red Chinese traditional dress. And yes, you look very feminine in it.

My boyfriend’s English is very good/clear and he speaks both mandarin and Cantonese:) 4 years later we have a house and live in AUS he is very affectionate and publicly too. My boyfriend is very much like me we do everything together. He doesn’t have any of the stereotypes that people assume.

    I'm a chinese guy and i have dated western girls; definitely agree with the shy comment as it took me a while/a few liquid courage to go and ask girls out for starbucks. I think the first step is always the hardest, and then things kind of work out after....... agree with the "chinese guy likes to eat (maybe at better place, maybe)" as most of us are foodies and do spend extra effort to try different food even by ourselves and have no problem sharing... guess that worked out fine lol

    I definitely do, but found that the western women in my country just play games and don't commit in general. So have found it ridiculously difficult to start a relationship with a western woman. Mind you, Asian women aren't much 'better' in that respect.

    I am Asian/Chinese and I was born in Canada.I still live in Canada and my family is from China. I love the multiculturalism here and I have to say, I am glad that interracial dating between asian guys and western girls is occurring. I just hope one day I can meet a western girl willing to date me and perhaps even leading to a happy marriage. However, I am shy from the beginning, though once you get to know me, I am confident. I really like western girls and every time I had met a girl, told her I like her etc, she rejects me and says "Lets just be friends" Then she finds some other guy and dates him instead. There is a reason for Asian guys to be shy like that, most probably do not feel accepted that much, especially by western girls when it comes to dating. Some asian stereotypes are also false like penis size for instance, the media has lied about it because every Asian guy is different and it isnt only about physical appearances, its also about personality etc. I have had at least one girlfriend and she was western. Things did not work out between me and her not because of our ethnicity difference but because she and her brother pulled off a stupid prank plus did other stuff like talking to her ex boyfriends that hurt my heart alot. She also wanted to date them while dating me so you see she was not into the monogamous kind of relationship, instead she was the type that had multiple boyfriends. I found that to be too odd and well I had to leave her in order to find a better Caucasian girl who is monogamous. Come to think of it though, how I won her heart was through confidence and just being there for her. I have just been hoping to meet the right girl who happens to be Caucasian and gorgeous overall. One more thing to add, that stereotype about "Not alot of Chinese guys can speak proper english." is a lie, I speak good fluent English and yet I am Chinese, born in Canada, so I am a Canadian Chinese guy,

  • @KopiOkaya

    I disagree with most of the stereotypes mentioned in this article. First of all, there are Chinese men from China, Chinese men from Taiwan, Chinese men from Hong Kong, Chinese men from Malaysia, Chinese men from Singapore, Chinese men from Indonesia and Chinese men from America, etc. Every continent has got Chinese men and their upbringing and social backgrounds are different.
    Secondly, the article is just generalisation and assumptions of Chinese men. Chinese is a huge majority. Among the majority, there are many ethic groups. And among the ethic groups, they are divided further into subgroups of minority. Chinese in Northern China are from a different subgroup than those in the South. Chinese in Singapore (although many have ancestors from Southern China) are different from their cousins in China. Among Singaporean Chinese, there are differences again. Most Singaporean Chinese men speak and write fluent English. Not shy about our feelings. Communicate well and feel comfortable among Caucasians. And socially outgoing. I can't speak on behalf of Chinese men from other countries but I can definitely speak on behalf of mine since I am born and bred in Singapore.
    Last but not least, not every Chinese man is a Bruce Lee, Jet Li or Jacky Chan. And mind you... Most of us know nuts about kungfu.

    I do think Chinese guys come across as shy. But sometimes they are just reserved and respectful. I haven't met any that are spoilt but many I don't know enough Chinese guys that well. If by tradition they mean more likely to settle down and have a family then yes but that doesn't mean they're all close minded.

      Running around with few different gals is to satisfy your own ego and having a bragging rights to your friends that you are a ladies' man. However, personally, I never liked to have more than 1 girlfriend (at a time). I had experience of 'dating' a girl for more than a year though at that time I took it as having a friend of the opposite sex and a companion. However, I discovered that she took me much more seriously as a lifelong companion. I had to back out and told her that I'd be going to the university and wouldn't know what would happen after 4 years and that we should leave it as that. I don't know whether I broke her heart or not, but she was silent as I walked her home. She went overseas for her degree course and still wrote me many love letters but I ignored them. I wasn't ready for any full-time commitment at that age.
      After graduation, I met another and we struck off quite well. While attending my friend's photo session in his graduation gown, he brought along a female friend (an ex classmate). This woman somehow was quite attracted to me and often asked me out after that. I went out a few times with her, but subsequently, I avoided her at all cost since I already had a girlfriend.
      I spent 6 months in Taiwan and got to know a Taiwanese very well. Both of us were quite close and she really looked like the actress Brigitte Lin. She told me that and that talent scouts looked her up when she was in college and entice her to become an actress. She told me that the lifespan of an actress is short and she didn't consider it.
      In a dilemma between the 2, as painful as it was for me (because I really love the one in Taiwan very much), I decided that I should stick with the first one and cut all ties with my Taiwan friend.

    Me and my friends never really struggled to find a '' date'' in China or a short-term boyfriend (if I may say). Actually it's easier when you're doing the first move (like guys used to like when I was coming up to them on the streets asking for their wechats and were more confident after that). However as a foreigner, what's difficult is getting in a serious and committed relationship. The '' trophy foreign girl '' is real and although all men in China are not like that (thanks goodness), traditions or just pride itself make it harder to find someone who will go beyond your foreign looks. But it's not impossible and even in the west, it's hard to find someone who'll like you for who you are. If they don't show any interest at all, even if you're the one flirting first, maybe they're just not into you or you're maybe not their ideal type 🤷‍♀️

    I worked in casino security jobs for a while, in my view Chinese males are definitely the most spoilt and entitled group I ever had to throw down a flight of stairs. But that might have something to do with them mostly coming from wealthy families. They were closely followed by millennials of all western nations.

    • @brendanofthelongwhitecloud8489
      @brendanofthelongwhitecloud8489 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, but then I had to deal with a lot of other people from wealthy families as well who would go out of their way not to attract attention. Even the middle class Chinese could not understand I am not going to give them special treatment for spending a few hundred dollars or even a few thousand dollars.
      A common line was "China could squash your little country". To which the reply was always "that might be true but China is not going to do a thing about me throwing you out". Almost every public assault of a guy bashing his partner was Chinese men. The worst one I saw was a Chinese guy picked up a steel pedestal and crushed his partners face with the base of it, she needed reconstructive surgery. Then could not understand why we were intervening as he cried like a baby being being dragged out.Making sure his head hit every marble step on the way down.
      A lot of people expect this sort of behavior from Arabs, but generally I enjoyed dealing with Arabs. One situation I had to deal with were a group of middle class Chinese going berserk at not being allowed in a VIP room and abusing the security guard for not taking their bribes, which were pathetically small. Chinese spending money (especially in a group) are really badly behaved.
      These were not isolated instances, this was the type of crap that had to be dealt with on a nightly basis with the Chinese. I really like living in China and generally like Chinese people, but their sense of entitlement and little emperor behavior (especially when in groups) gives them a really bad name.

    I dated white girlfriends before but I think stereotypes are partially true and partially wrong. There are insanely anti social white dudes in my school as well, but there are super hyped asian dudes. I assume White women tend to think who they can date and they can't. Even in Europe and some part of U.S, females oftentimes say "Asians are not my thing" so you know, this is not about Chinese guys are not outgoing or do not approach girls. It is about white girls defending themselves in many circumstances. If you think you like Asian guys, why don't YOU reach out to them? You know what I am sayin

    When I got older, I wanted to marry Chinese, because we share the common language.
    Now, I hate thinking of marrying Chinese women, because they are gold diggers. Most are ugly, yet they demand men to provide housing, have higher salary, are taller than them, handsome, etc. Their demand is too high. I need to look elsewhere. Although Chinese women is my first choice, but I cannot meet their demand, so I might end up marrying Vietnamese or a foreigner who can speak Chinese.

      He doesn't know any woman. Most women are not like that. First, you have to be likeable. Looks isn't that important at all (for most women), if they find you likeable and easy to get along with. When you are easy to get along with, show more interest in them by being attentive, half the battle is won. When she finds you as someone reliable (as in being a reliable partner), you are almost there.
      My wife met me when I was dirt poor. She was 18. I had nothing but she clung to me (I know it) like I was the one and only for her. Shortly, we went to apply for a HDB flat (government built apartment) that cost only $72,000. That was a long way from what we live in now - a $7 million home with swimming pool. She didn't ask for anything but she got a life of wealth because I went into business after that and I struck gold.

    中国男人把约会看得很严肃的事情,并且中国文化里的面子观很重,被异性拒绝是非常没面子伤自尊心的。所以和外国女性约会是一件比较有自我挑战的事,在西方文化里和异性约会属于比较普通的社交活动,不用考虑太多事情,但是中国文化里约会已经是恋爱的一部分了,中国人只会和确立了恋爱关系的异性约会,中国人认为约会不是社交活动,而是非常亲密的私生活。

    • @julianz3598
      @julianz3598 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      是的,你说的你在北京遇到的不保守只想玩玩的中国男人肯定存在。但这种行为不是中国人理解的正式约会和谈恋爱,是不道德的。而你的视频的标题是“为什么中国男性很少约会西方女性”,我作为一个中国男性的理解是,你想讨论正常的,道德的男女约会,而不是讨论一夜情。中国文化里,和一个异性约会的前提是,男女双方已经建立或者确认了一种恋爱的关系。汉语的“约会”英语叫date,没有建立恋爱关系的男女date,汉语叫“约炮”,是一个非常不好的行为,这个词也是一个新词,过去中国社会里没有这样的行为。中国大陆社会在80、90年代以前,是非常保守,非常传统的,现在的中国大陆除了一二线城市以外,仍然很传统保守,即使在一二线大城市里,也不是人人都很西化了。中国传统价值观对两性关系的认识是非常保守的,中国人只认可合法婚姻关系为基础的性关系,所有婚姻关系之外的性关系都是被鄙视和谴责的,这一点很像西方社会的天主教和基督教对两性关系的认知。但是,中国改革开放以后,这个传统开始慢慢有所改变,恋爱男女的婚前性行为开始被默认,这在过去是不可能的,而且是犯罪行为,专门有个法律叫“非法同居罪”禁止婚前性行为。改革开放以后,中国大陆里可以看很多西方的电影和电视节目,好莱坞和欧洲电影帮助中国人了解西方社会和习俗,中国人心目中理解的西方社会两性关系是很开放的,不受婚姻关系约束,这和中国传统婚姻观念有很大矛盾。大多数中国男人会有偏见,认为西方女人性观念很开放,这是阻碍他们和西方女性谈恋爱的主要原因。

      Lenaaround 我觉得相比西方,中国人大部分都是很"保守"的。其实只是文化不同,大部分中国人只想安安稳稳找个伴侣。因此,中国才会有那种"结婚对象就是初恋"的情怀。那些只想玩玩的男人,大部分中国女人也不会想和这种人谈恋爱。

      没说到点上,主要是家庭观念的差异,很多中国男人觉得谈女朋友是以结婚目的才是正常的,当然也有为了啪啪啪的,既然是这样,家庭观念相差太多也就没必要浪费时间,例如几块钱的东西一些西方夫妻也要算得清清楚楚,在华人看来太奇怪了。

    Hi! I've been seeing some of your videos and I think you're not looking into the right place... The best fit for your personality, ideas, plans, etc, would probably be someone from Singapore (and yes, there are chinese men in Singapore too). They still retain most of their chinese culture, but are definitely more westernized (in general).
    Hong Kong and Taiwan would probably be a good bet too, so start looking around :) That being said, most of those men would probably not want to go into mainland China... so seriously, it's not going to be easy to find your soulmate like that.
    Perhaps if you found another youtuber chinese guy, that would make things easier.
    I enjoy your videos and find you're really "adorable" as a person, but your bubbly personality doesn't quite fit the typical average chinese guy preferences.
    Myself, I am married to a Japanese lady for 8 years, and even though most of her life was spent in the westernized Singapore, went to international school, etc, etc... you're in for a massive cultural difference shock.
    It basically comes down to small daily life things, as well as different opinion on "how things should be done"... because the principles, the culture, and basically the difference on the importance that people give to things, that matters.
    I wish you all the best of luck, so please keep posting.

    I've noticed as an asian guy I only find interest with girls that have the innocent look(facially), or very plain look for lack of a better term. If they dress flashy/revealing (unless in a night club) that is a sign they have an ego/low class , which is a common faux pas among asian culture.
    I would think for the girls dressing classy, act respectable and being able to say anything thoughtful would make asian men interested. If you come off as brash, trashy or low ambition that is a red flag asian guys look for. In other words don't come off as an danger to yourself..

    I don't know how it works in Mainland China, but here in Taiwan where I live the Taiwanese men are mamma's boy and not independent. I have western female friends here who won't date Chinese / Taiwanese men for the reasons I just mentioned above. Taiwan & China is still very conservative which can make it very difficult in a relationship.

You Caucasian have to most freedom to travel to many part of the world and wouldn’t be judge or discriminated too much.
    Hope these would help:)

    From my experience sadly but chinese men are much like stereotypes, i live in south, and really want to have a boyfriend but it just doesn't work with them, we are from different planets and my Chinese is very bad too so it makes things difficult, because almost nobody who tried to approach me knew proper english. I didn't meet the mister right yet, hope he exists. Literally everyone who i knew were just working then going home to sleep, no life! Work is their life. I also work but i can always find time for my bf, sadly usually they are not ready to do the same. If you don't want serious relationship it may be easier.

    From many women I have talked with... Asian males simply dont provide western women a sense of masculinity.... strength, protection, feeling safe. Also personality... individualism isnt really a chinese strength. (mommas-boys) strong, humour, confidence is key for ANY women, and asian men tend not to possess these traits.
