I do okay most of the time, but it's the little things that get the memories flooding back. I watched a television show, and one of the tracks they used was a song by G'n'R called "Patience." Stacey made me listen to it when we first started talking. I was 23 and trying to rush things. She thought it was cute, but it was her way of saying, "Calm down." She ate scrambled eggs on our first date, and so when I really miss her, all I will eat are scrambled eggs. I sang to her a song called "We've Got Tonight," trying to get her to stay with me. She wouldn't, of course. She just kissed me and said, "There will come a day that I'll never leave." That one still stings. When we moved into our first apartment, Stacey sang Etta James "At Last" all afternoon. It made me smile. She loved Andrea Borceli and the song titled "Time to say Goodbye," actually playing it as she kissed me before she left the first night we were together. It made such a memory that I played it as the final song at her funeral. I just got on my knees and held her hand. My mother was the only person who could talk me into moving. Our whole relationship lasted the span of 19 months, 9 days of which we were married. I can still remember her McDonalds order; Big Mac with light lettuce and no onion, large fry, and a large Dr. Pepper. I can't remember where my wallet is half of the time, but I'll never forget that. 🙂 All I'm trying to say is that it's the little things that keep them alive in our hearts. I try not to say that Stacey took her own life too often, but that's what happened. The underlining factor was that she suffered from multiple sclerosis and depression because of that. She woke me up one night in pain, of course. I held her, and she said something to me that will stick with me until my final breath, "You don't deserve what's going to happen." I didn't understand back then, but sitting on my couch as a 41 year old man this morning, I'll never forget. I guess this is my long-winded way (I'm a writer) of saying to hold on to those key memories with all of your heart. That's where my Stacey lives, and I know for certain your husband lives in yours.
