So true. In French it is really obvious : we say "true twins" ("vrais jumeaux") for identical twins and "false twins" ("faux jumeaux") for fraternal twins.
My sister and I are fraternal twins. When we say that we are twins, people say "Oh, but you don't look alike. So you're "false twins" ?" And I am like "No, we ARE twins !" This is so annoying. As you said, it is like if they denied our existence : "yeah, you're twins but not real ones"...
And some people don't even know the notion of fraternal twins so they say "How is it possible ? You don't look alike !" And in the worst case, they say that we are lying...
I prefer the english words "identical" and "fraternal". At least, it shows that we are close but not fake...

This is me and my brother. I'm a girl and people think my brother is a year older but its just a minute.
My sister's name is Maye and mine is Kaye, so sometimes when people call out the name Aye we both come because we don't know who their calling and it's usually just them yelling, because why not. Once l called for my sister and l saw her looking at me as l was calling her. Then l asked her "why are you just standing there? Can't you hear me?". Then l realized l was talking to the mirror. I had nightmares for days after that.
My mother always tells the same story, when my twin sister and I were little, my sister stood in front of the front yard window talking to me, she never realized I wasn't in the front yard, she was talking to her reflection.

I have an identical twin and people ALWAYS ask us annoying stuff like: "Why does she have glasses and you don't?" "Why does she like dresses and you don't?" "Why is her voice higher then yours?" And we are always like: "Because we are different people, we aren't 100% alike."🤦♀️
When people ask my sister an I if we're twins we always respond with something like "what, no. We just have the same voice, eyes, nose, body shape, room, and share a birthday! What? " Also in my math class, because I sit in the back and have a different period than her, for a quarter of the school year my teacher never knew I was there. She thought that I was my sister and she had her twice.

Syd&Mel Lieb I have triplets. They were "the triplets" for years. Now they're are called "the boys" lol. They've grown so used to it I don't think it really bothers them. They just answer the question and move on. What's funny is two are identical and one isn't. But for years no one could tell him apart from the others. His hair was a completely different color and his head was twice the size of the twins. Lol . I always wondered how stupid those people must be if they couldn't see how different they really were.

NO NO LET ME GUESS!" and when they guess it right they act like they won a freaking competition or something. i worked with one set of identical twins, and their personalities were so different that i sometimes forgot they were related/twins. And i think i messed up two girls who werent related more often because they had similar hair that they wore the same way quite often. xD I think i messed up the twins mostly because i messed up the names more than the faces/personalities. One was a girly mother of two, and the other was this big bisexual tomboy personality. And before that when i was little i had two sets of twins in my class from K to 8th grade.(i wonder if growing up with twins the novelty has worn off so its easier to see the differences and not think of them as a set?)

I have a fraternal twin sister. I love being a twin, I always have someone who's there for me no matter what. Another plus is that I always have a 'fun fact about me' to share with people who don't know me! However, something that has always annoyed me is how our older relatives would refer to us as "the twins", instead of us as individuals. Also, shared presents. We used to fight a lot when we were younger, but we still loved each other. Now that we're older and we don't see each other as often we're really tight. I can't imagine my life without her, because she's always been a part of my life.

I knew this girl for like 3 years, she came in the restaurant where I worked and we had our little ongoing banter. One day she came in and acted super off put when I picked up on our regular conversation. I was confused and asked her "you don't know what I'm talking about..." She said no, I've never met you before. I looked at her puzzled and when I realized she was being serious I asked what was going on. She laughed and said "Oh you probably know my sister." A few moments later her twin walked in, the sister I'd know for years, and I said you never told me you had a twin. She laughed and said yeah, we're always together to which I replied not so I've known you for years and never seen or heard about her. From that point on I only ever saw them together...one of the strangest things.

Well, I actually know twin sisters that were in my class on freshman in high school and on the second year (in France) one of the twin did her oral french exam for both twin...(so we're talking about the baccalauréat where if you cheat, you can be judge and stuff to see whether or not you're banned from attending the exam for 5 years........) so it's real shit

My sister and I are fraternal twins and look absolutely nothing alike. So the most annoying thing is when they find out we're twins and don't believe us. Like they ask for proof or just say we're lying and it gets me so frustrated!!!

Yooooo, the twin life is so annoying at times, but other times is really hilarious.
I confused the heck out of my twin's architecture teacher back in high school, it was hilarious. I showed up at her class so we could walk home together, and he was like "Oh, did you forget something?" and I just looked at him and said "Is Chelsea still here?"
You could literately see the gears of confusion in his head spinning, and then my sister just walks out and waved goodbye at him, and he was like "what..."
[Edit] OOOOH, and I can't believe I almost forgot to mention that her hair is really long while mine is cut short, so EVERYONE comes up to me and says "OMG you cut your hair! But it was so long!" and I just look at them like "not really..." For some reason, I often don't realize that they've mixed us up because I get my hair cut quite often.
Now that we're off at different colleges, there's only a few people who know we have a twin, and when they meet the other one, they go nuts.

There were identical twins at my school once. One had dyed her hair red and the other dyed hers blonde. The blonde one was waiting in line to go into her class ...a teacher walks by and says "why are you here! Get to your class now" she looked at him confused, her teacher looked at him confused, then the red one walked around the corner and said to him "sorry I'll be to class late" and ran off. The look of confusion on his face was priceless.

I was friends with some fraternal twins when I was in third grade, they were *COMPLETE OPPOSITES,* in their looks, and in personality:

The younger one was taller, had lighter skin, had more hair, and had a stocky build.
The older one was shorter, thinner, darker, and had less hair.
*Personalities:*
The younger one was quieter, had a lower pitched voice, more easy going, made friends fast.
The older one was angry all the time, you would have a hard time getting on his good side if you weren't one of his friends. He had a higher pitched voice as well.
It's really annoying when people tell you that "you're basically the same person" like dude, if you have a sibling you're not the same person. One time this person punched me and asked my twin if she felt it.

The smart twin or sporty twin question is hilarious to me because I’m best friends with a pair of twins that routinely call themselves either the smart twin or the sporty twin.
One time, when I was at summer camp, I knew a pair of identical twin counselors. One of them sneezed one day, and I asked the other one, “Did you feel that?” She said no, she didn’t.
