Congratulations on reaping the fruits of many years Elsa & Joan Chamorro. The little girl has grown up into a most interesting musician!!! Not to mention the rest of Sant Andreu which, as always, are a pleasure to the soul! Thank you Scott Hamilton for another of your beautiful musical moments.

What's New and Laura are definitely her forte. She can certainly blow that bugle.
This is The Real Thing; improvised solos, perfect harmony, impeccable rhythm an formidable phrasing, without overdubs and phony effects. I cried tears of joy in the room when this was recorded live, and I still do when I watch this video.

I am almost speechless. That is about as perfect a rendition of Laura that I have ever heard. Scott Hamilton at his absolute best and Elsa's playing is sublime in its simplicity and sincerity. The rich undertones from the sax section is luscious.

Elsa gives us an absolutely beautiful trumpet solo. The muscians and arrangement make for a smooth presentation of 'Laura".

Well, the Armengou talent/gene pool is here on display for all to notice! What a nice job. It can't be easy, playing in Alba's shadow so to speak, but there is absolutely no question that Elsa has the chops to stand out on her very own, and that's exactly what she does here. I'm looking forward to more from her!
Terrific arrangement masterfully played. What a pairing...the great phrasing of Mr. Hamilton, the sax section chorus, and Elsa...well, Elsa, her horn speaks for itself...beautiful rich , full tone, played pretty straight without a lot of fluff, flutter, and monkeying around...much the same way Harry James, Charlie Spivak, Ray Anthony, etc. would have played it during the great Big Band era. She captured our hearts as a little girl playing Undecided...now she has become a top notch virtuoso. Thanks Mr. Joan for bringing this to us.
@Chauncy Washington young Elsa is playing an almost perfect cover of Clifford Brown's version of this song from his Clifford With Strings album. Take a listen, you'll see how close she is to it and what a fine tribute she is paying to one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time.
Most of the boys' appearance have inevitably changed as they have grown into young men - beards and all! - but there is no mistaking that this is the same Elsa from all those years ago playing "Undecided". She continues to use absolutely no expression in her face or body, putting it all into the music - how I wish those silly if talented women pianists who throw themselves about and wear virtually nothing as if to say "Look at me! Look at me!" would learn from her. But a lovely shy smile at the very end was great to see!
@@bbtablet I associate this 'absolutely-no-show-whatsoever' style with the great Tom Harrell, whom I had a chance to see on stage playing in Phil Woods Quintet and instantly put as one of my favourite trumpeters ever (this was also one of the finest jazz groups of that time IMO). See 1988 concert in Barcelona (sic!) as an example: th-cam.com/video/k61gChXwLQ0/w-d-xo.html. Considering how much has Tom achieved as a musician (incl. recent Trumpeter of the Year 2018), one can say that putting music first is threatening neither your career nor your artistry ;-)
So I will just (im)patiently wait what else we get to hear from Elsa.
@@rodmact6548 I found the Clifford Brown album and yes, clearly that is what Elsa played in this video. Thank you for pointing that out. Brown's trumpet is superb! What a great master to emulate.

I have been watching and listening to Elsa Armengou since she was a little sprout...what an amazing and brilliant trumpeter she has become. Her tone is deep, rich and mellow, like a fine musical wine. I am in awe of her and the rest of Joan Chamarro's crew. He must be magic to draw so much music from these kids ! Bravo maestro Chamarro! Scott Hamilton is as sensational as ever after all these years. One of the best Lauras ever.

Was texting and this song began from autoplay. The trumpet tone was so pure and the phrasing was so clean that I looked at the screen to see what talented pro was performing. And there was our Elsa.
She deserves all that applause. As she has grown, she has certainly matured. I'm so impressed - I also suspect she has caught up and possibly surpassed her big sis in her trumpet playing.

Elsa Armengou has a very smooth and accurate style of playing. Seems so effortless in her playing. Elsa has always been my favourite with her ease with her instrument. Thanks Joan Chamorro for nurturing such young talent.

I’ve been trying to master “Laura” since 1957 on my alto. It’s not the easiest tune to play. Unfortunately! Oh how I wish I had talent anything like these youngsters. And youngsters includes Scott. Wonderful stuff by wonderful people & their maestro Joan. Thank you. 🎷🎼

Tremendamente emocionado con esta versión de Laura. La evolución de Elsa no nos extraña ya que desde muy pequeña mostraba una sensibilidad y un auto-control en la ejecución de su trompeta, difícil de concebir en una persona de su edad. Joan Chamorro y su grupo nos sigue sorprendiendo cada vez que vemos y escuchamos una nueva interpretación de sus formaciones. Una de las virtudes de este proyecto es el de unir a distintas generaciones en donde se amalgaman la experiencia de los mayores y la frescura de los más jóvenes, en esta ocasión en particular Scott y Elsa. Es sin duda uno de los pilares fundamentales del éxito de estas formaciones. Felicidades y muchas gracias por la emoción.

The first video of SAJB that I watched was of little Elsa , with her trumpet as big as her ( con su carita muy seria y con mucha determinacion ) it’s so nice to see her after all this time flourishing as such an accomplished and talented player ; The Best to you Elsa Always !
Elsa does an outstanding trumpet solo of this standard tune. Her tone is beautiful. Tremendous improvement from Mood Indigo in 2011. Way to go Elsa!!!!

Paul, it seems this tune was played at the Sant Andreu Jazz Festival last September, but I don't recall it, so I must have somehow missed it. I think you were there, so could you possibly place it precisely, day, time..... ? Thanks. I remember during the latter part of the festival, Elsa seemed to have hurt her leg and was wearing a cast and using crutches to help her move around, so the song must have been played early in the festival.
@@ferreiraronald7873 The description points to that festival. Sorry to say, I haven't had the opportunity to see SAJB "at home". Closest call in my travels was Mallorca, alas too much effort to "hop" to the mainland...
They had to travel to St. Moritz / Switzerland (2016) so that I could hear and meet them.
Scott Hamilton sums it up from the heart at the end: "Beautiful, beautiful." What else to be said?
I can only hope that the people of Spain appreciate the true musical gifts, that these youngsters, under seasoned guidance and leadership bring to the performance of jazz. How encouraging it is to see their love for the music, evident in each clip I've had the pleasure of viewing. It further underscores the universality of the genre, and its continued international appeal. That little angel of a trumpet player's rendition in the style of Cliff Brown is, in a word...Heartwarming! 🎺
Lo más asombroso no es que Elsa toqué así de maravillosamente la trompeta, sino que lo haga con 14/15 años que tenía en esta grabación. ¿Cuántos trompetistas profesionales de Jazz, adultos, de 30, 40, 50 ó 60 años son capaces de tocar así? Pocos, muy pocos. Tive a satisfação de assistir ao concerto da SAJB no Teatro Del Centro de Gràcia, em Barcelona, em 01/02/2020, onde Elsa tocou “Laura” maravilhosamente. É uma alegria escutar ao vivo o incrível som que Joan Chamorro consegue extrair dessa big band de jovens talentos. Os solistas estavam muito inspirados. Alba Armengou canta melhor a cada dia e seus duos com Joana Casanova são estimulantes. E, como brasileiro, posso dizer que cantam muito bem em português. Espero ter oportunidade de poder assistir novamente essa ótima orquestra. Parabéns a Joan, Alba, Joana e a todos os músicos.

Very impressive solos from Elsa on trumpet and the immaculate Scott Hamilton on tenor sax, backed by the superb SAJB, specially the sax section (Joan Marti's alto sax has simply exploded and his improvisation very impressive. A real feast for the ears (and eyes). Thanks Joan Chamorro for continuing to produce these wonderful young jazz musicians like a magician produces rabbits out of a hat.

Lovely version of this jazz standard. Elsa did a great job, and Scott Hamilton was great as usual. I really liked the just slightly slower tempo.

Very warm and full tone. Great breath support, good phrasing, and excellent use of vibrato. For Elsa's high level of performance, she looks very humble and warm as well. Scott is a superstar in my rating system, and the supporting cast is always on par with professional musicianship. All of this, only comes together and continues to gon, when supported by a passionate and dedicated director.
Is this the same little girl who captured my heart when I first heard "Easy Money"? Both sisters. like all the players are so talented and deserve the praise they get. Thank you Joan for your much rewarded efforts.

Every time I watch/listen to this, I perceive something new.. I think the opening by Elsa is just fantastic - she captures the essence of the song elegantly and simply - and I'm not the only one who thinks so - watch Scott Hamilton's reaction to the left in the background - I think he thinks so, too. Makes me wonder who inspired who here. He goes on to play a marvelous solo (with the closing phrase of his solo being a brief quote from the opening to "Cocktails for Two"). Just can't say enough about this performance - Elsa, Hamilton, and the saxophone "choir".
