Wonderful run! The item placements were very silly and you did a good job sating my curiosity along the way. And Linkus' run - oh christ the ending was so tragic, you were so close for so long but so many silly things happened all at once.

3:40:18 I always like small things like this in games where if you go to a dungeon later with more tools it is significantly "easier" without being outright broken.
This is a really minute one that saves such a small amount of time, but other examples are like doing DC in OoT as Adult and being able to simply climb ledges and such or outright having Light Arrows for the start of Stone Tower and not needing to do the mirror shield puzzles (or in this game and Earth Temple for some checks I believe).
I'm only about 45 mins in but I appreciate that you don't cuss much, if at all. It makes for a pleasant stream. 😊

To answer a question from the last couple minutes:
The fastest route between any number of nodes (e. g. points, e.g. checks) is called the traveling salesman problem, and it's already a problem which computer scientists formally call "non-polynomial" which means that when the number of points to consider grows very big at all, it can informally be called "non-unfuckable." The problem of speedrun routing is much harder than this, because there are complex dependencies between the points.
Computers CAN solve computationally intractable problems. If a perfect algorithmic solution is too slow to finish before the heat death of the universe, bring out a bigger hammer, namely heuristics. The above-mentioned traveling salesman problem can use this to get fast, good solutions.
However, it is also a problem which is pretty tedious but straightforward to state formally. The routing software would have to know about every possible option at every possible point - it's like if you had to program logic for a rando with every skip enabled. Doable. Hollow Knight's randomizer does it. But obscenely difficult, and HK's has holes, even with its extremely complicated boolean expressions, and stuff is added to those boolean expressions all the time because of creative new finds with obscure item combinations, and sometimes stuff that seems obscure in one context is much less obscure after a total reroute.
So basically, no. It's just like you said. Way too hard.
Not sure if anyone has acknowledged this, but this was honestly an excellent explanation! I've heard of this problem before but was never really able to understand it till now. Appreciate you typing all this out.

Rereading my above message, one thing I failed to mention is that even though there are lots of wild obscure bits of information to keep in mind for something like this that would be practically impossible to program in exhaustively, it's not impossible that a combination of a heuristic approach and a huge pile of research (both on what skips are available with what items, and on how to make the algorithm faster in this specific case) could result in better results than a human would come up with. But the human is always needed just to understand what's even possible, and since skip discoveries are sometimes motivated by a route *almost* working, that's one element that will stay human for the forseeable future even in the most optimistic outlook for how the above-mentioned research would go.

Wind Waker rando has been a thing for a long time. I dont know how many but its been years
More than 4, as the oldest randos on Gym's vod channel (here, lol) are over 4 years old.
So the whole sword thing with this seed. None of the swords were in logic until you got at least the grappling hook which is nuts. And to get that you needed 15 blue chu jellies for bombs.
Wait, what just happened at 4:29:17? I thought that the moblin only do that animation if they accidentally hit one of their allies. From what I can tell, only link got damaged from the moblin's punch attack. Must have something to do with a weird interaction with the ice arrow or something.

if you go to Gym's twitch channel and type !discord in chat you can join his discord server. there is a channel with speedrun resources that should have info on the rando

No, you get the item on the next stage load. The only way to miss the item is if you savewarp before the next load sequence.

entrances are separated from all the « thingsanity » bc these are only for item checks -> ex potsanity in OoT puts all pots with items into the check pool of « normal » stuff, entrances are more of a movement based randomization which is pretty much something extremely different from the sanity stuff

Thanks for the fantastic content! After watching a couple of these and doing some digging for the right files, I'm going to try a rando run for myself. Any setting recommendations for someone who knows the game, but is just trying out the randomizer?
EDIT: I suppose I should be specific. I've played through the story and know some of the side quests through watching these videos
You could start without keysanity just to get used to the rando and to make dungeons faster. They keys will still be randomized but only in their respective dungeons.
Also when there are minigames that you hate, just set that as a junk location so you don't have to do them.
WW is pretty easy so I don't have that many suggestions, just look at the settings in the rando. Everything should have an explanation note if i remember correctly.

@@ninteney9777 thanks! I started a run and quickly realized that I barely remember where things are in their normal locations, so I’ll probably do a normal run to jog my memory then do rando runs
@@matthewbrooks5470 you don't have to do a normal run, use a tracker, it will show you all locations, even those you normally never visit during a casual playthrough. It will also show you new checks whenever you get a new item.

It's locked until he gives you a tour of his house, which is locked behind the camera
It's because he doesn't have picto box, the door isn't unlocked until you talk to Lenzo with picto
