I always play with artilery, it really adds to the game. without it it devolves into heavy meks digging into a defensible position and blasting away. with artillery they need to move. And you need to plan ahead, to plan where the enemy is goign to be and blasting that and then tryign to lure them into the blast zone. It makes the game far more tactical. Of course I also play exclusivly on megamek thanks to the pandemic so all the tracking is taken care of by the computer.
Hey Guys! About the determination of the missed shot. The scattering distance is clearly stated in Tac Ops, but the scatter diagram is not equivocal. Is ther any kind of regulation, where is hex 1 direction? Should it be determined in house rules (f.e.: opposite side of target hex from attack direction, "north" side of map, etc...)?
Once your games start getting into artillery it is a good idea to nominate a direction as north which you would use as '1' and go clockwise for scatter.
A friend once said this of me:
"A force of yours without artillery is like a blank t shirt. It's okay, but somehow seems missing something."
