Stop saying "It's banned". It's not banned. It's only banned in the US, and only in Sept/Oct. And even though it is going to be banned in the US, US customers can still continue to use it and get updates for it if they want to.
In my country they will not force civilians to uninstall Kaspersky. That is unthinkable. Our government does not force those things on us.

Kaspersky had a irritating habit of identifying government sponsored spyware/backdoors on pc's ( like Pegasus ) and you know governments weren't happy about that ....
It was also a great source of revenue for Putin who simply paid another team to make malware while he made sure Kaspersky removed them. Simple trick : pay Putin or get your PC infected.

That's what i heard is that in the cases of big cyber attacks like wanna cry kaspersky detected the NSA's spyware as the cause. In other words the very government that was telling us how all these russians were cyber attacking us were the ones actually doing the cyber attacking.

@@TheHobbitmann Not really. Kaspersky is right up there along with Eset Nod32. If you do a bit of research, youll see that Kaspersky and Nod32 outperform pretty much all those other junks and bloaties like Norton, Trend Micro, McAfee....

There's no evidence for their claims that Kaspersky is doing this or that. It's all just hypotheticals and prophecies atm.

What I found when uninstalling many programs is that although it uninstalls everything the empty folder still remain on the PC. What I do is delete the folder that are left behind as well, they take up no space on the drive but I just don't want anything of the program I uninstalled on the PC and that includes empty folders.

In case the ban also includes U. S. territories, what other best free antivirus should be used?
In the USA, Windows PCs and laptops came with McAfee Antivirus or Kasperksy Antivirus. I don't care for those and would uninstall it and chose an antivirus of my choice. You can also uninstall using the Windows Settings App. The old Control Panel Add/Remove doesn't remove everything

I used bit defender some years ago but it was causing my computer to run slow. Hopefully it’s a better product now.

One important thing you haven't mentioned are the passwords. I have one password for My Kaspersky and 28 other passwords within it. Does Kaspersky in Russia have a database storing all of our passwords? If they do, then I will have to come up with 29 new passwords. So far, there has been no mention at all in Canada about this issue.
I would be a lot more worried about American corporations, and the American government having access to your data. Kaspersky has not done anything wrong.

Not because of Kaspersky but because of the program Everything. I have used Revo Uninstaller since it came out,and I use it for uninstalling all programs. I agree to using uninstaller tools for antivirus programs, and I use those if it's made for the AV program. I have never used Everything, but that program will be installed now. And maybe the ownership shotcut as well. It's a nice feature to resolve problems when removing files and folders.

Some files from 360 Total Security are impossible to remove from the system.
Can I use those windows keys on an older laptop that has a new ssd? It used to run windows 8.1.
Keys are used for Windows 10 and Windows 11

I don't need any third-party antivirus. I only use Windows Security and have never encountered any problems. Ever.

I'm trying Bitdefender internet security 30 day trial. Even though I'm not in the U.S. I'll try something different. I think Kaspersky will still be able to run, it just won't have updates, won't scan properly and won't help your pc stay protected. Just like if you still use Windows 7 or XP you can run it, but you won't be protected, that's probably what's happening that's what it sounds like.

I use Kaspersky and if we follow the US and ban it, I've got Acronis images of my OS drive with no internet security on it at all. So I'd just use one of my Acronis images knowing there's not even a trace of Kaspersky anywhere near it. It's the only way to be 100% sure that my system would be 100% Kaspersky free if I wanted it that way. Then I'd install whatever I decided to use to replace it.

I dumped Kaspersky when Russia invaded Ukraine. Too bad, it worked very well. I'm starting to learn about Linux via LMDE install.
