  • The Mainstream Ear Warmer is a Crochet Pattern by Crochet It Creations. It comes in 8 sizes including Newborn, 3 Months, 6 Months, 1 Year, 2 Years, 3-5 Years, 6-10 Years, and Adult.
View the Free Pattern instructions here - crochetitcreat...
Materials needed are a H5mm Crochet Hook, Medium #4 Weight Yarn, Scissors, Tapestry Needle.
I ALWAYS recommend to do a gauge swatch prior to starting the pattern to make sure your tension is matching up to the pattern.
Gauge is 4" square = 9 rows x 15 HDC usig BLO, FLO technique of the pattern. If you get more stitches & rows in 4" then you need to go up a hook size to make larger stitches. If you get less stitches & rows in 4" then you need to go down a hook size to make smaller stitches.
Yarn used in the video is Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca. If you view the pattern on crochetitcreat... or Etsy/Ravely most of those photos use Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn!.
Stitches used in this pattern is a Foundation Half Double Crochet (FHDC), Half Double Crochet (HDC), Front Post Half Double Crochet (FPHDC), Back Post Half Double Crochet (BPHDC), and Single Crochet 2 Together (SC2TOG). If you are not familiar with these stitches I have several videos that can be helpful.
The Ear Warmer is worked in a rectangle first. Then use a tapestry needle to sew the twist together in the front.
If you are looking for the Mainstream Beanie pattern that is mentioned in the video, see it here - crochetitcreat...

She will love them, using the half double stitch like this wears well. I've made one in black and wear it when riding constantly. It washes well and fits great.

Tried to do the newborn size with same size yarn and hook but it came out way too small. Should I go up a hook size and if so how much?

What size circumference will this fit? I'm a 21.5 I 'am using chunky yarn.
