Designing HUGE Concrete Forms | 3D Printing Robotic Arm on a Track in Action at Vertico

  • And it was easy! Their parametric design systems developed in grasshopper made so simple. Earlier this week we saw the past progress of Vertico, learning about their origin story and early struggles. In this video we check out the print process from a few different units. The Facility in Eindhoven, the Netherlands is incredible!
    The 3D printing process of these giant concrete forms was similar to some of the other companies we've visited but many things are also quite unique. Vertico uses jumbo bags of concrete weighting 1.2 tons each instead of tiny 25kg bags. Their robot is also on a rail system which makes printing many objects a breeze. Very much looking forward to future projects from Vertico!

    I imagine these as exterior forms (for grand buildings) withe the structural concrete/ rebar poured in. Very beautiful columns. You could even make scans of ancient temple pillars and print them.
    Amazing tech, and now let the mind expand on the beautiful applications.

    Giant robotic arms, on rails/tracks, could be a huge game-changer for 3D printed structures.

    You got hands on experience with 3D printers. I wish I too get to work with 3D printers. Nice video.
    I have a question though :
    Which designing software do other companies like Cybe, Peri, Winsun, etc use ?
    Please let me know about the software, Jarett. Thanks a lot for this video. The beam design is amazing.

    This makes more sense than trying to print odd shaped houses that won't be practical to live in.

    This is an awesome video. How can I find more information on Vertico? Also, could you direct me to a place where I can learn how to prepare a file to print something like this in grasshopper?

    • @automateconstruction

      Their website is in the description and you can just search 3d printing with grasshopper courses. I haven’t taken one so I can’t recommend which is best.

    • @automateconstruction
      @automateconstruction  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats kind of tricky actually because the rapid change in direction can cause some shaking in the machine but it is possible.

    How fast can I fill these forms, turning them into structural columns. How long is the set time before I can fill them. Will they crack as the infill sets? So many questions ... I love, love, love, the possibilities !!!

    • @automateconstruction
      @automateconstruction  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good questions, weaker mixes can have bursting events from the force of the liquid concrete pushing outward. That leaves all the stress on the tensile strength of the printed mortar which is notoriously weak.

      @@automateconstruction Also vibrating the fill mix for perfect amelioration ... I think we have some more bugs to work out brother. Time to get back to first principles. ❤❤❤

      @@jamesbell8861 Funny you mention that I just finished filming the new first principles physics section of my course. It will be uploaded this week an you will hear all about it in my upcoming videos. Heard it here first :) the price will go up quite a bit too because it a complete re-vamp of the whole thing top to bottom. Of course current and legacy members will have access for free along with all other future updates.

      @@automateconstruction ... Sounds like great minds think alike. I had talked about 'First Principles' thinking with regards to how we were going to have to solve the Small Batch dilemma that is so labour intensive on the bigger house prints. I will keep an eye out for your posts and if it's not too expensive I would be really interested in what your course has to offer.
