    I really appreciate all of the information you provide us in your videos. I have suffered with chronically dry skin on my face and body my entire life and I am 51 years old. I have begun reducing the irritants and harsh ingredients after power watching you after another TH-camr shouted out your channel a week ago. We are so fortunate that you are willing to put your time bin to educating us. Thank you very much.

    You knocked it out of the park once again, Doc! I am so, so glad to have found your channel several months ago when it was possible to 'catch up' by watching the older content in some binge-watching. I'm not really a youtube Vlog follower but I have LOVED yours ! Great job and at 42, I found you because I knew there had to be a better way to get this hormonal acne under control. Thanks to you even a couple of days of combining salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide has made a huge difference. How come no one ever told me that ? YEARS of seeing dermatologists and this simple combo *may be my holy grail.

      @@victoriaroman316 Dr. Dray usually recommends a retinol (like adapelene 0.1%) applied at night for treating acne. Combine that with benzyl peroxide and it'll be even more helpful in clearing acne.
      For hyperpigmentation, I've heard her recommend various products with azelaic acid, kojic acid, etc. Even adapelene reduces hyperpigmentation when used for a couple of months. There are many videos by Dr. Dray to check out on these topics. I hope you find them useful for your skin issues and develop great healthy skin.

    My favorite thing ever for makeup removal is my Makeup Eraser cloth. It’s a microfiber cloth that even takes off my 3 layers of waterproof mascara with just water. I usually just wet that and use no soap. I follow up with a moisturizer and I have much less acne than when I used a facial cleanser. It uses the texture of the cloth to remove everything like my favorite entryway rug captures all the dirt coming into the house.
    The cloth does ‘wear out’ after washing it for a few months. It just feels less fluffy and I buy a new one. I repurpose the older ones for cleaning the house so I don’t create too much waste.
    This video was amazing 🙌

    Love your videos Dr. Dray! I just wanted to point out that some people do need to use soap on their body. My skin is more aggressively colonized by Staph than your average person, and if I don’t wash with soap I will develop a red, itchy, rash-like Staph infection of my hair follicles on my lower legs. I know that’s not typical, but wanted to point it out in case there are any other “colonizers” watching.

But after doing it my Sunscreen was not coming off and created a very ugly irritation on some parts of my body. Now I do wash it off and everything is just fine :)

    GREAT video!! As I've mentioned in comments before, I cured my hand eczema 100% by stopping using soap with Sodium LAURYL Sulfate. Hi Dr. Dray. My little sister told me about your channel recently, and I'm so glad she did. I really have enjoyed your videos and all the information that you have provided me with. My mother-in-law only uses water to wash her face I always thought that was odd, her mother did the same thing and her mother had the most beautiful baby soft flawless skin you'd ever want. i actually use baby dove sensitive top to toe as a facial cleanser atm. it is very nice and extremely affordable, cant ask for more really. fyi, not sure if you know about this but Hada Labo has another range in their line called Tamagohada. ive been a longstanding user of the Tamagohada AHA (glycolic) + BHA cream cleanser (they also have a self foaming pump similar to yours). as is customary for the brand, it is fragrance free. cant claim that it will be gentle because of the acids though, but i really liked it, but cant get it here in the UK!

    What you said about just using water is so true. I’ve been washing my face with water only the last two years and i have less breakouts.. just one or two pimples usually before my period or when i lack sleep but they just usually dry out the next day..i stopped putting stuff on my face after so many years of using so many acne products that just worsen or just temporarily stops the acne buts comes back with a vengeance. love your videos and how i wish ur were there 20 years ago...

    Thanks For all your advice on skin care. Have been binge watching your videos. Love them
    I am 50 years old from Sri Lanka now living in U.S.
    While in S.L never wore moisturiser, or Sun protection. As it was very humid ,and since I had oily/combination skin never needed. Or soap on face.
    But since last year I have an age spot or melisma. I have started using Hadalabo lotion, Genefique serum, and Hydra zen moisturizer from Lancôme .my pores are enlarged with age. My skin is dry now. No acne.. I don't have any wrinkles.
    As you have commented on products mostly for Acne skin , was a bit hesitant to switch before checking with you what's best for my skin concerns. My age spots and keeping wrinkles away as long as possible.
    I would like to get Differin gel for anti aging and age spot benefits
    Cerave cleanser as face wash or Neutrogena orange face wash for acne with Salisilic acid 2%. What's the best choice?
    Cerave pm for acne skin as a night cream?
    Cerave am for acne skin as a day cream?
    Or Hadalabo whitening gel cream which I used to use
    And I already have Hadalabo UV SPF 50+PA+++ (which has a white effect) since I don't wear makeup it's ugly.On your video you like Hadalabo hydroboost water gel SPF lotion. does it have this white film? As I want to get it.
    Since I travel a lot overseas caring too many bottles is a problem.
    Yesterday I bought Neutrogena Hydro Boost hydrating cleansing gel as it says effectively removes makeup and impurities .supposed to use like a face wash. I now Saw that it has Sodium Cocoyl isethionate, Sodium Methylcocoyl Taurate .
    It says soap free,oil free , paraban free, hypo allergenic ,non comedogenic. At least if it's not too bad I will keep it to use on trips. What do you think? I really want to follow your advice? Please help.
    What are good drugstore brand skincare products for traveling which multitask. And also addressing the issues of mature skin issues.Would like to see a video on this soon. It will benefit many.

    Hi there Dr. Dray,
    Thanks for another great video. In the description, do you mean "sodium palmate" rather than "sodium palate"? If you would be able to embellish this list with other ingredients for us to consider as harsh (and thus to avoid) that would really great. I've found stuff like "Pentasodium Pentetate", "Tetrasodium Etidronate", "Chondrus Crispus Powder (Carrageenan)", etc. and am not sure if these too are to be considered as harsh (and thus to be avoided).

    That was *really* great. Thanks! If I use a facewash that doesn't contain any soap compounds or surfactants harsh or mild, would it still be an 'insult' to the skin to wash 3 times/day? In the evening, I cleanse with a cold cream, then wash with Cetaphil, for which I know you have no use. Then I put on my moisturizer and azelaic acid. Several hours go by and I want to put on my retinoid and go to bed. I prefer that the retinoid not have to go through the moisturizer and az. acid cream, so I wash with a mild cleanser, ie, that's twice in an evening. Then in the morning, I use the mild cleanser again. Too much? The cleanser doesn't include any of the ingredients you listed above for which I thank you *SO* much.
    Here are the ingredients of the cleanser: Water, glycerin, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, cetearyl alcohol, cetearyl glucoside, PEG-40 stearate, phenoxyethanol, ethylhexylglycerin, ceramide NP, ceramide AP, ceramide EOP, phytosphingosine, cholesterol, sodium lauroyl lactylate, carbomer, xanthan gum, stearyl alcohol, hyaluronic acid, disodium EDTA, disodium phosphate, polysorbate 20, potassium phosphate, lactic acid

      i used to be a beautypedia fanatic a while ago and i understand that they seem to be genuine with the research they use. but i do personally see some flaws in what they do. they are big proponents against jars for example, but many other numerous sources also note that jars are sufficiently safe because of the preservatives. their argument for the use of antioxidants are big too, hence probably why they are against the use of jars, but some people (like Dr Dray) find that antioxidants have dubious qualities (and they are not regulated). not all antioxidants are good, just like anything, anyone can be allergic to good things like antioxidants (my face gets red when i use vitamin c, thinking that it was fine, i pushed on to no avail). but the problem is they believe in a cocktail of antioxidants, and that means more foreign things on your face really. i believe *some* of the research they use are the ones that are funded by companies, and that is a problem in itself (correct me if im wrong). in the end they are still a company selling products after all. i think antioxidants can do you good if you are willing to shell out for them. but there are affordable antioxidant serums out there that uses tocopherol and vit B, which i believe are not pricey ingredients in themselves

      Alif Asyraf Tassim Thank you for taking the time to write a lengthy response! I have noticed some issues (inconsistent ratings and harsh ratings for certain brands), but have found Beautypedia to be a decent guide in general. It has declined quite a bit in recent years, though...
      There is just so much conflicting information out there (Ben Fuchs, for ex, who is against preservatives and very much for high concentrations of antioxidants in skincare) especially for consumers who are not trained physicians or cosmetic chemists, that it can be overwhelming and confusing. I appreciate people like Dr Dray who take the time to educate and make sense of all this stuff.

    • @AliTass
      @AliTass 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i try to be as objective as i can! i agree with you that it has somewhat declined in quality over the years. tbh i wouldnt have known about effective treatments for acne and such about ingredients on cosmetics if it wasnt for Paula, so i saw so much value in it myself.
      with so much information out there now, we can have access to so many viewpoints and perspectives about cosmetics and what it should or shouldnt contain, and what to use and why, and it does get overwhelming! hence i also do agree that i really appreciate those who (like Dr Dray) do take time to investigate these matters objectively and with expertise! you even have given me access to another source (Ben Fuchs) to peruse and examine, so thank you!

    Hey Dr. Dray! Could you do a video on scalp acne and how to treat it?

    • @AliTass
      @AliTass 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i get it too, for the longest time! my scalp has been really good with me now. it used to excrete a lot of oil, and it gets greasy within the day easily. the trick is to use a salicylic acid cleanser on the scalp and leave it on for a few minutes, and wash it off. thats it really. i actually use a facial cleanser for that to be honest, since its much more affordable. either way, if you dont want to use a facial cleanser, Neutrogena has a salicylic acid base T/Gel shampoo

      @Marimora033 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alif Asyraf Tassim That makes total sense! I’ve only had it for a couple months and I have been getting more oily than usual and more dandruff so that’s probably why. Thanks for the tip!
