- A series about stuff that creeped me out that can't be covered by Creepy Bad Endings or Creepy Time Limits.
When the entire world of Nintendo comes together to beat the crap out of each other, it's mostly fun times for all, but like most things from this company, there are a number of occasions when it'll scare the crap out of you instead. Today, for the fourteenth episode of Creepy Moments, I'm taking a look at the times the fastest entry in the series sent me running to the toilet the fastest.

The first time I made it to Giga Bowser in adventure mode, my GameCube froze with a loud ringing noise, and then crashed, all right at the end of the Giga Bowser cutscene where his eyes are glowing white. I was scared shitless, I ran out of the room so damn quick.
Oh my god that's creepy 0-0 I remember my gamecube crashed like that before too but it was not as creepy.

I know why that happens. It happens if a certain character is doing a certain idle animation at the end of the cutscene
Honestly, the creepiest moment of Melee for me wasn't when Giga Bowser showed up. It was when Planet Zebes was blowing up. As a kid, I'd never played Metroid, so I had no idea that planets blowing up was a common thing with that series. Heck, at the time I didn't even know Samus was a girl. So when I heard the sirens and "WARNING!" appeared on my screen, the first thing that came to my mind was "MY GAMECUBE IS GONNA BLOW UP" and that was the fastest I've ever turned a game off in my life. I was so panicked in that situation over something so simple. After I turned it off, me and my brother (who was there with me) wondered if that was MEANT to happen, so we got there again and quickly realised there was no threat to my console whatsoever, but I'll never forget how shook I was the first time I saw that. Quite possibly my biggest gaming fright of all time.

Same but not because the explosion but the timer and yeah. I was rushing because I thought if I run out of time, I will get an instant game over and I will be terrified because the game over screen of Melee was scary. I always made it. I never ran out of time though. End of story.
The “Oh did I win?!” from Peach makes it even creepier, and more unsettling to show that you’re not done
Fun fact: Masahiro Sakurai hated Bowser’s potential after Super Mario 64 because he wasn’t scary anymore so Sakurai decided to make his own version of the King of the Koopas in Smash Bros Melee where Bowser changes into a Kaiju esque design: Giga Bowser.
To be frank, Bowser is a dinosaur-based kaiju with a turtle shell though a goofy example of one. But I understand Masahiro Sakurai's concern and disdain for Bowser's potential so it does make sense that Bowser should be the extremely powerful ultimate monster that asserts his supremacy towards his enemies and subjects like he's supposed to!

I used to be kinda scared of Giga Bowser untill something funny happened on hard mode, he grabbed a super scope and refused to put it down while I piled on damage and using Roy I was able to counter most things he did.
When I used to play melee I'd main Luigi or Gannondorf, but I changed up when I got brawl due to changing properties and new characters.
I have that game, but don't play too often cause of controller issues, if that's what you were talking about

The most messed up part to me was seeing his trophy pulverize after beating him. Did Bowser just... Die?

There once was a time when games could include 'true' final bosses without having them spoiled, and make a massive first impression. For instance, Akuma in Super Street Fighter 2 showing up out of nowhere to murder the conventional final boss (most likely followed by you) if the conditions are met... and Bison doesn't show up at all in the following game, only the prequels, suggesting that he really was dead for good until SF4 came out.
I do enjoy transforming into Giga Bowser in Brawl as Bowser's Final Smash.
My first secret boss in a game was Shin Akuma in Street Fighter Alpha 2, and yes, I knew that Akuma debuted as a secret boss in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, but back in the day, I wasn't able to beat Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo cheating AI to fight him, I had enough with his Alpha 2 secret fight during these days.
My first secret boss was... I think one of the ones in a Final Fantasy game

Though it looks painful to Bowser when he further mutates into Giga Bowser.
The reason I think it's not in sound test mode is simple.
The fact is, that smash bros is is a kid playing with action figures...
SO, MY interpritation is that he's a nightmare. The kid was dreaming of beating the game fast, and it turned into a nightmare. And as you don't usually remember that much about dreams, he remember giga bowser, but not his theme. Maybe to imagine him as a good person.
I think that tue scariest part of Melee are some of its hardcore fans...

Also, spoilers but, as someone who went into both Brawl AND Melee without the internet's spoilers (and never used Bowser's Final Smash in Brawl until much later), I can definitely say both Crazy Hand, Giga Bowser, and even Tabuu crept me out, albeit not as much. Extra creepiness points for the latter two for having music that definitely doesn't sound right (Giga's is distorted, as you already pointed out, and Tabuu's starts out pretty eerie, just enough to creep off my younger self).
Extremmefan Pichu has the most Badass points just for being able to get him there.

I find the reactions to this...thing to be amusing. Bowser is already kinda scary, but having him reach a new level of horror is something to be expected, as it's the only logical direction to take him.
I love how many secret encounters this game had. I feel like games that come out now in days do this kind of stuff a lot less which is disappointing. Also glad I'm not the only one that thought that little ambient tune sounded creepy...Almost sounds like it can play during a Mortal Combat fatality...

Why this OurTuber always predicting? Like example, about the World of Light, the guy said the right hand means creative and religious while left hand means chaos and destructive, and also his vid about Kirby 64 to SSBU, where the thing of Dharkon's ending. And yeah, one of Nintendo vids came to be predicting.
No wonder Bowser can't beat Mario, he can't even beat the damsel in distress.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Master Hand's *other form* in the recent Super Smash Bros. game. The way it was presented and the lore behind it turned up the creepy factor. I'll let you find out about it if you haven't played Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U yet.
Still, I agree with you on both Giga Bowser and Crazy Hand in Melee. Once again, great video.

I personally believe Giga Bowser isn't the real Bowser, but a clone sent by Tabuu with the sole purpose of destroying you.

I remember running into Giga Bowser as my final challenge in Event Melee. And of all characters, I beat him and his cronies with Jigglypuff. That rest, man.

Crazy Hand just disappears into purple flames and Master Hand becomes Master Core (hence the "Master" in its name) if i remember well.
Would be pretty neat if we ever get to see a Crazy Core if a Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch is ever released in the future.

Thinking about it, I don't think I've ever seen what happens if you don't complete the escape sequence in time. I was always too scared to find out, I guess.
It blows up and you lose a life
And go to the next stage... unless the life you lose is your last one (and you will be forced to start from the 1st stage or retry the Brinstar stage from the fight against Samus... if you have enough coins to pay for the credit to continue).
Actually if you lose your last life and pay for a continue, it takes you to the next level, Dream Land. At least, it did for me.
The only thing i would laugh about that monster is how tiny the fire breath acually is :"D I was fearing it was MUCH bigger!
Out of curiosity, will you make a sea-themed "creepy moments" video some day? Oceans, abyssal seas and deep water in general have always been some of the most terrifying places for me. A certain scenario in Age of empires II certainly didn't help when I was little.

Giga Bowser was just something I got used to for a while when I was younger, until I realized, hey...something's off...the biggest thing I really noticed about giga Bowser when I was young was his color, size, and eyes, but it wasn't until Smash Bros Brawl that I realized how hellish and realistic this form of Bowser looks. I started to imagine Giga Bowser attacking Peach's castle instead of just his usual airships. Worse yet, I imagined him being the size of a kaiju at one point, smashing apart the walls, windows, and decorations of the castle, to slaughtering a lot of toads until he reaches Mario and Peach. Giga Bowser certainly isn't something you'd expect to see from Mario.

And I've been thinking that once Giga Bowser was defeated, his trophy was pulverized to dust as it falls. Turns out it kept its shape. But still, implicitly adding a bit more creepiness to it.
Has anyone else ever noticed that Mario's Classic Mode trophy in Brawl is in the exact same pose as Giga Bowser's trophy in Melee?

Been playing those 2 games for years and i just realized.

Melee was super dark and scary, this was a typical game i didn't want to play in my room if the lights were shut. but the creepyness of it made it the best in my opinion, everything from how its set up, to the music, to the characters were so perfect.
Being a "sinister" person myself, I can tell it's only natural they'd make the left hand crazy and more dangerous. :p

I did get a wtf out of myself when giga bowser showed it's form. Me and my friend both. So perfectly unexpected to cuss who knows how many times you've played adventure and beat it.
I came from the future, bowser now have a new creepy form.
The metal fight cutscene is more funny for me since they just drop from the sky at a high velocity and act like it was nothing when they get up lol

Oh yeah, it took me a while to beat the game's adventure mode... the redeads scared me as a kid. I was a teenager by my first completion x)

I still remember the dreaded Event Match 51, a secret unlocked only after beating all 50 of the others, in which Giga Bowser was one of three evil boss enemies after you at once. Once you finally defeat them, you return to the main menu, and the music has changed to a brand new remix and you're awash in the glory of "I finally beat this game". (And then you discover wavedashing exists, and say screw that and go play single player games some more)
I ramble too much but I like talkin about video games soooo
I always found Melee's atmosphere to be somewhat eerie, especially in the cutscenes. I think it was the lack of music in the cutscenes, as well as the oddly flat and "dark" aesthetic the game seemed to have, not to mention the quiet ambient noise during the Adventure Mode cutscenes.
Sure, the original also had a very dark aesthetic, but it had that kind of friendly tone(save for that goddamn game over screen, uuugh). The soft and simple music of the main menu kind of gave me the vibe of some kids looking through their closet or toybox so they could find the right toys to play with that day. And that's what the original Smash was to begin with, it was a kid's Nintendo doll collection coming to life to fight.
Melee, though... it felt kind of like you were in some sort of twisted computer simulation. For example, the wireframe fighters look kind of like unfinished or corrupted fighters or files that somehow broke out of their folders, so to speak. Or maybe they could be seen as viruses!
I like the way the Metal Mario Brothers enter the fighting zone like Fat Man and Little Boy.

Sonic CD isn't the only game with a creepy game over, look at Melee. The announcer did a fantastic job with how ominous he sounds when he says "Game Over!"

When I was playing melee as a kid, the first time I ever saw crazy hand and giga bowser was when I was completing the events for the game. At the time, I didn’t play classic or adventure mode on normal difficulty or higher because I felt I wasn’t really good at the game yet. So for a while I thought they were exclusive bosses from the events :P.
Needless to say, I was caught off guard when I saw those two for the first time.
There were quite a few startling things in the game but the thing that creeps me out the most is the trophy of Daisy. Looking through the back of her head there is a third eye. Always seemed freaky to me.

I was always unnerved by the Metal Mario. Especially when I was trying to beat Adventure with other characters I sucked with, like Marth or Ganon.
I do, however, remember being good enough to win a 1v3 with level 9 cpus. I was pretty good with Mario. But then Brawl changed his Down-B, and I have never been able to use him since.

Napoleon Complex You're right- Giga Bowser also shows up in the last Event Match; "The Final Showdown", paired up with Ganondorf and Mewtwo, unlocked after beating every other Event Match. The Giga Bowser variation of Final Destination's music doesn't play, though.
Jigglypuff makes all three easy though...

When I was little I was terrified of melee just because of the redeads.
there was this other thing you didn't mention, or maybe it was just me, but in the gallery you could change the background while viewing trophies. Try changing background while viewing Giga Bowser's trophy there is one where he looks even more terrifying, it really creeped me out back then, I wonder if it was intentional or just a coincidence created by bg's lights and colors..
Fun fact: The eyes on Ganondorf's trophies will actually glow if you select a certain background in the trophy gallery. I'm pretty sure it'll do that regardless of whether you're looking at his regular or red and blue smash trophies.

I remember that the first time I saw Giga Bowser, I was using Samus, and he intimidated me a lot. I had believed that I ended up as normally happens.
It was when the cutscene appeared, and I stayed like: *_"Wo-What? What's going on? Should I fight him again?"_* Then Giga Bowser is revealed, and I felt like I was fighting Kraid in Super Metroid.
Today, I like to face it, using Ganondorf. I love tí create a fight of 2 damn beasts.
I miss the old, feral, "might makes right" Bowser. He is too "civilized" nowadays, especially in Super Mario Odyssey. At least the movie brought back some of his old traits.
