I wrote all of these down and am so excited to check some out. your taste is amazing. I've never read any Kurt Vonnegut but im excited to start this year. my top books of 2023 were to kill a mockingbird, conversations with friends, the secret history, fourth wing and Suzanne Collins entire works. I read all of her books for the first time. I loved the hunger games but I actually loved her middle grade series, gregor the overland, even more! so underrated
Omg I didn’t even know that Suzanne Collins wrote a middlegrade series haha so cool! Please please let me know how u like Vonnegut once you try him out! I STILL haven’t read To Kill a Mockingbird (shame) and sally rooney is always a winner. Thanks so much for the kind comment! I hope you are having a beautiful day ☀️
Letters to a Young poet is on my all time favourite list!! And you are right, it is far more than advice on the arts, it’s really a roadmap on how to approach life, especially when you feel lost! I always enjoy watching your videos, especially since we have such similar tastes!!
Great book list! I really like Joseph Conrad; I read his Nostromo and several other stories last year. His prose are very complicated, but also very beautiful. Prose-wise he is one of my favorite writers; of course, Emerson is still number one for me. One of the best books I read last year was The Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake. His style is masterclass and unique: a more gutteral Conrad mixed in with heavy gothic elements. Super impressive; and on a technical level there are few who can match it. That's all I got for this video. Lol. Enjoyed it!
Haha thank you for your thoughts! I’m not sure but I feel like you’ve mentioned the Gormenghast Trilogy to me before and I was very curious to read it. Haha I will add it to my ever growing book shopping list 😂 Hope you have a great day
I remember commenting on a video of yours from late 2022 / early 2023 and can't believe it's already been another year! Really enjoyed this video, Mckenzie! Wishing you a great 2024 reading year! 📚
Read a lot of Hemingway so A moveable Feast was fantastic to see in his own words the beginning of his writing career and the environment after WW1, incredible. Best wishes with your reading choices in 2024.
Hello! I think that Slaughterhouse Five is actually a great place if I am being honest. I know that is probably a basic answer but it’s a pretty freaking solid book. My other options would probably be Mother Night or God Bless you Mr. rosewater. Good luck! And let me know what you end up picking up and how you get on with it! thank you for watching! Haha hope you are having a beautiful day 🌷
I just found your channel and loving it, I have watched you 2 last videos and our tastes are very much in common - I'll keep watching you previous videos. I have already plan to read Kingslover's book (surprised to see it here) with a friend, but we are going to read David Copperfield first. And I've been wanting to read Revolutionary Road for so long, and you finally convinced me to give it a go.
Ahhh yay! I hope you love demon copperhead and revolutionary road (when you get to it) !! Thank you so much for your kind words! I hope you have a beautiful day 🌷
@@mckenziekate thanks 🙏 just received in the mailbox Tommy Orange’s Wandering Stars. I loved his first novel There There. Okay I will leave comments on your other videos 😀
@@electraandbooks5925 omg I just picked up Wandering Stars!! I haven’t read there there yet however but will for sure pick it up if I love this new one. The cover is stunning too 🤩
Hello. I love Hemingway at short stories. All the other stuff is fine, I guess. If you wanna know more about him you could read "Ernest Hemingway: a Biography" by Mary Dearborn. But you will be very dissapointed of him as a person, he was quite the character. My favortite 2023 books were: The BIg Nowhere by James Ellory Wuthering Heights as a re-read Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel The Ruins by Scott Smith But I wanted to recommend you Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. It's SO GOOD. I'm recommending this book to everybody in real life and booktube. I'm that annoying guy.
Hello!! The Hemingway biography does actually sound very interesting. I know he was an interesting character however I do not yet know specifics haha so thank you for the warning! I have never heard of The Big Nowhere but will definitely look it up right after I finish typing this. I have had wolf hall on my tbr for a few years and I find myself very intimidated by it for some reason haha, I know a lot of people love it tho! And I’m very captivated by that time in history. So ONE DAY I will get to it lol. AND LONESOME DOVE!!! I was LITERALLY HOLDING IT IN MY HANDS AT THE BOOKSTORE TODAY ABOUT TO PURCHASE IT! NEXT TIME! And I LOVED wuthering heights and have been itching to reread it!

Thank you so much for saying hello again!

It feels like an incredible privilege to see inside the daily lives of these amazing writers.
What is your favorite Hemingway?
And thank you so much!
I also read a movable feast this month. And i remembered his writing about feeling of hungry.
With his writing you can see him in that room , eating those fruits and throwing the pips in the fire. Best wishes.
He really is one of the greats. I’m so glad you read it and enjoyed it as well
Been looking forward to this video ! Where would u recommend starting with vonnegut
