I love when someone thinks a pipefitter isn’t educated and then you show them ONE of the multitude of code books we need to know and watch their brains explode. You like having heat in your house in the winter? Thank your plumber😂
About 482,000 plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters are employed in the US. Proud to be one of them...was in construction for 5 years but now on the journey of being a residential service plumber. About a month in and still have lots to learn on the sales side. Keep up promoting the trade! I think its an extremely complex job and it takes more than just plumbing and if youre a good plumber youre probably good at a lot of different aspects of life
Logan I absolutely agree! Im on that same road, I have been babbling on the residential side for the past 6 months. It is a bit different from construction as far as the model goes but I love learning all aspects of plumbing especially sales. I wish you the best of luck man, thanks for reaching out.
Thank you for this video! I too was never talked to about trades but instead pushed to go into college. I’m 30 now and realizing how important the trades are and am applying for apprenticeships. I appreciate the info and the transparency. God bless 🙏🏼
Being a service plumber is good and bad. Every different scenario you encounter helps make you a better and better plumber. The worst part about it is dealing with certain customers, or how thankless your job feels sometimes.
If you're mechanically inclined...the plumbing is the best thing 1 could ever do. Once you have about 5 solid years of experience(service), nothing can stop you from loving what you do plus making upwards of 6 figures. Best choice I could have ever made!

Hey man Im about to start plumbing school in a few weeks but wondering if this trade is for me. Im not a hands on person but I am very analytical and detail oriented. Im a problem solver to the point where I cant let things go until I accomplished fixing it. Im also a cleansy person. My fear is the fact that im not a handy person naturally it will discourage me to quit. I'm also afraid of heights. I heard sometimes plumbers have to be in 12ft height.
lol that’s a tough one. I will never discourage you from joining because I believe you can have what ever you put your mind to get. With that being said, don’t let fear hold you back from anything. You’ve got great qualities to bring to the table and the fear of heights may get in the way but not enough to derail you. If they like you and you are teachable and on top of things, they may have you just stay on the ground for the most part. (Depends on company and your relationship) but If plumbing something you’re really considering and you already enrolled in school I’d say go for it.
You never know until you try find a plumbing company in town and as check-to see. Try as a apprentice You can ride with a tec act as a helper if you walk in with your mind open and ready hands and mind ready

Good for you. I don’t think humans were really meant to sit in front of a computer all day. I’m a commercial fisherman and needed to start learning something else on the side and was thinking of coding but my wife said I should try plumbing because she could never see me in an office in front of a screen all day long (plus in my state you don’t need any formal education to get licensed you just need to pass a test and have a master sign off on your hours). She was right! I love plumbing and it has made me really respect trades
My daughter is finally starting off in IT. She’s already complaining about an 8 hour shift and it hasn’t even been a month yet. Dawgon’ gen z-ers. Can you tell me what kind of money she should be expecting starting out? Cause she told me what she was getting, and it’s not much more than an old friend of mine was making updating systems for y2k back in 1999.
@dumdiversaspapalbull1452 I have a bachelor's degree in Information technology. I hold two certifications from CompTia and one from Amazon. I only make $55 no joke. I work in a data center and i hate what i do. I am looking to do more physical and hands on jobs.
I just recently started a job in an office setting coming out of the Marine Corps thinking I would love it. Long story short, I don’t. I am highly considering finding a plumber apprenticeship and try to go down that path. Thanks for the information!
There’s a big difference between being in the office and being in the field. Having done both I would choose the construction field every time. Time flies when you’re having fun and my days fly by. Plus there’s nothing like knowing a trade in my opinion. Happy huntings man hope you find somewhere to excel 💯
Plumbing is like the streets. It isn’t for anyone….but eventually, your time will come, if you stick with it. Just remember that there’s a difference between doing what you know, and knowing what you doing. And just like the streets, whenever you think you’ve gotten good at whatever it is that you’re doing, that’s the moment you got caught.
My brother convinced me to become a plumber. He's been in wielding for about 10 years already and gonna go in for master-wielding. And I have been a butcher for 8 years and the money is fine that comes out of it. But he convinced me to get into the trade and, I was worried I wasn't gonna do good enough, but rekindling my knowledge for math wasn't that bad so I've been working on that stuff and, and gonna have to learn more about the trade. But I'm definitely hooked. And excited to try.
Honestly, just familiarize with the gas, water, and easy and vent installs and you’ll be fine. Most of us aren’t math majors by far so I would let that bother you none. But if you go commercial and through an apprenticeship there is a test you’ll have to pass prior to getting in. Best of luck to you 💯
I'm thinking about going back to school. I went to art college and university in '09 - '14, I have a BFA in photography, but nothing has really come of it (and yep, when I was considering where to go for post-secondary school ca. '08, the trades weren't even talked about. I was into art, and that was okay.). I went through a huge shift in interests almost as soon as I graduated, and now simply being a good, kind, helpful person is more important to me. I haven't had a job that paid more than slightly above minimum wage (currently CAD$15.30 here in New Brunswick, Canada), and nothing that has allowed me to save up for later in life. I don't even know if I'll be able to retire. For the last year or two I've been considering going to a New Brunswick Community College and getting a certificate in either plumbing or welding (I'm leaning toward plumbing). I know that these jobs pay well, they're recession-proof and they're in demand. I won't do this for a while yet because I have to somehow land a job (it's tough these days) and save up, but I'd like to make this happen, I'd like to have a job that both allows me to help others and gives me job and financial security.
That’s awesome your you want to help others. 💪 but before you can do that you got to be able to help yourself, two years is a long time to consider something, sometimes you just gotta go forward it. At least this is what Ive learned when I was in a similar situation. Trades aren’t recession proof they often slow down but you’re right they do pay higher than most. The key is to plan ahead. Overall the trade was the best decision I could have made for my family and I and I believe it’s a good start for anyone looking for a sustainable job. But I would suggest talking to a rep and joining an apprenticeship to start out. That’s the route I took and glad I I did. Best of luck to you!
So I am getting into plumbing and have tons of sales experience. Can you elaborate a bit on what you mean by sales and plumbing? I am currently getting involved with my local union for plumbing and pipefitting because I love welding as a hobby and like the physical labor and geometry part of pipefitting and plumbing commercially.
That’s awesome! And as for the sales, I have been on both sides as far as commercial and residential. If you’re looking to sale which residential service companies would be your best bet. There are a lot of plumbing companies out there that offer great incentives as far as piece work or commission on services sold along with an hourly rate. It all depends on what your goals. Commercial, for instance being apart of a union in my opinion is pretty set in stone as far as there system goes. Unless you get on as a marketing consultant or start your own company there isn’t to many opportunities their for sales man. Hope this helps.
This is one of the trades that I’ve thought about getting into other than trucking. I’m 35 right now and I’m not the most domesticated person in the world. My question is how long are the classes and the training in order to become a plumber?
I went through ABC so cal, it was 1 class a week for 4hours and a 8hr Saturday class once every 3 months 4years long (It may have changed) Union I believe is 5 years but that’s all I know about them. Hope this helps
Absolutely, most people worry about age but it’s a matter of you looking the part. If you look like you cant lift 50 to 90 pounds you may struggle to get in. if your knowledgeable and know what your doing that can also give you and advantage. If you go through an apprenticeship that will also give you an advantage aswell. If you want it bad enough you’ll do just fine. I’d say Go for it!
I'm 22 and I decided to change my career. I was planning to become a police officer but the more I looked into it, It's not the lifestyle I want to live. I'm going to plumbing school and my goal is to own my own plumbing company and have people work for me.
I wish I woulda thought more about my plans before I started lol. That’s awesome you know what you want. That make a huge difference in the way you’ll approach plumbing. Best of luck to you my friend. Thanks for watching
Can you talk about the kind of math you use as a plumber in detail? I have a student who thinks he wont need math because he has chatGPT and his iPhone.
That’s awesome you’re a teacher, I have some great ones along the way… and yea that’s a great topic, I definitely look into doing one soon thanks for watching!
@@chrismorrison52 You're not horrible at math. You like many others just need to practice doing basic math often. Look up how they teach multiplication in Japan and it will blow your mind.
@RunOs3 I just looked up Japanese multiplication, and im honestly blown away. Thank you for sharing this with me. This was some very valuable information and will change the way I do multiplication
@@chrismorrison52Great, I’m glad it helped. As a teacher, I can see that our current system of education is antiquated. To put it bluntly, it was developed by a bunch of pathetic morons, who tried to squeeze everyone into a little tiny box. Get creative, practice math, and you will probably find you like it more than you hate it. All the best.
I'm 27 and thinking of moving into plumbing because the luxury trades don't pay as well. Shoot even if I make 70K per year, I would be set on that income.
@@dre21492 Things like detailing, decorative concrete, and house power washing. All good industries, but if you want to actually make money working then you really need to own your own business not just work for a company doing it
I started at 27. Im 36 now and a master plumber in Va. I started off doing rough ins and remodels in Boston Ma for 2 years. It was a rough start being 27 and right out of the military. The most important unsolicited advice i can give to someone starting out a little older in life is that you HAVE TO STICK IT OUT! DONT GIVE UP! If you have a mean boss or coworkers then just remember you are there to learn the trade for YOU! Good luck!
If you just getting in the game, specifically union knowing what I know now, I would start off where they see fit and go from there. The union set the standards so your in a good place. Allow your self to experience it all and decide from there. What works for me may not work for you, always discover things for yourself self and you’ll make better decisions along the way 💯
The process is about the same no matter what trade you decide, maybe research a few and see what one jumps out at you. I chose plumbing based on timing trying to just get in trade lol. Let me know what u decided when the time comes, and thanks for watching
22years old Can't find a regular job with relevant 2-3 years experience haven't gone to college due to instability with my living situation but now I'm stable place should I try 1 year program for plumbing at the college near me ? I did hvac and wood shop class in highschool and was working and have done landscaping a bit
Not sure what you’ll get with a year of college but I would definitely try speaking with them and trade schools along with a union rep to see what works best for you and to give yourself options. 💯 💯
Not sure how the UK does it. But here in the US it would be a waste of time to go to school for a certificate and then still have to join the apprenticeship for 4 to 5 years to receive a journeyman license. I just straight into the apprenticeship myself, I really don’t see why anyone would go to college unless you plan on being an engineer or designer whereas college credentials or needed. I would talk to the apprenticeship first though so they can get more into detail and point you in the right direction. Best of luck man 💯
Hi sir I really love to watch your videos . It's very useful for me . I'm from India and i also want to become a licensed (master)plumber. Is there any chance to outsider to get admission ?
Personally I don’t see why that would be a problem, but if plumbing is something you’re interested in I would look into an apprenticeship program where they can better assist you. Best of luck man. Let me know how it goes 💯 💯
My apprenticeship was known non-union so I wouldn’t be able to answer that for sure. I do have friends you have journeyed out non-union who are now union. From what I’ve been told it is not an easy process but over time (some months) they did get in. As far as becoming an apprentice I’m sure it’s just a waiting game and those who are persistent will eventually get in if you stay on top of it.
Not sure what you mean but if you wanna know if you become a plumber without a license yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it though, being certified as a journeyman plumber will open more doors and higher pay 💰
Depends on what kind of plumbing you trying to get in to. Commercial, residential, service. I always suggest going through a non union or union program. It’s a little work at first but definitely worth it in the end
Become a commercial plumber not service plumber, but either way it’s not as bad as you thing when you protect yourself properly lol In Commercial a lot of times it’s new construction but there are remodels that consist of existing water closet removals but it’s not that bad.
@@LIFE-N-PLUMBING aw man i wish i would of known cause im starting IT i was thinking of commericial or new construction but if i get invested in plumbing i might do that but for now ill stick with IT
I’m from Cali but I looked up a non Union school which is ABCNYC in New York. Look up “Associated Builders and Owners” Also check out the union as well and see what works. ✊🏽

If you want it bad enough you’ll do just fine. I’d say Go for it!
Thanks fam I'm 41,and I start my apprenticeship in two weeks, and I can definitely lift 50 pounds lol
Thank you
You’re most welcome, wishing you the best on your journey! 💯
That's good man all cops are liars
Can any service plumbers out there tell me, does the client stare over your shoulder the entire time 😂 that would kill me
Can you talk about the kind of math you use as a plumber in detail? I have a student who thinks he wont need math because he has chatGPT and his iPhone.
That’s awesome you’re a teacher, I have some great ones along the way… and yea that’s a great topic, I definitely look into doing one soon thanks for watching!
I'm interested in this topic also. I'm looking into becoming a Plumbers apprentice, but I'm horrible at math, to be honest
I make 140k per yr in service, I honestly don't know anyone else hitting those numbers and not in school debt. I have zero
Did you start in commercial first? Big or small company?
City?

I'm 27 and thinking of moving into plumbing because the luxury trades don't pay as well. Shoot even if I make 70K per year, I would be set on that income.
That’s definitely obtainable in this trade! 💯
What are luxury trades?
Good luck!
I’m applying for a union apprenticeship for service side.
Should I start construction/commercial first?
If you just getting in the game, specifically union knowing what I know now, I would start off where they see fit and go from there. The union set the standards so your in a good place. Allow your self to experience it all and decide from there. What works for me may not work for you, always discover things for yourself self and you’ll make better decisions along the way 💯
I’m 26 and considering going to trade school, but I am unsure of what I would be good at. I feel like I could be good at plumbing, but I’m not sure
The process is about the same no matter what trade you decide, maybe research a few and see what one jumps out at you. I chose plumbing based on timing trying to just get in trade lol. Let me know what u decided when the time comes, and thanks for watching
i enjoyed this
Much appreciated bro thanks for watching! 💯
22years old Can't find a regular job with relevant 2-3 years experience
haven't gone to college due to instability with my living situation but now I'm stable place should I try 1 year program for plumbing at the college near me ? I did hvac and wood shop class in highschool and was working and have done landscaping a bit
Not sure what you’ll get with a year of college but I would definitely try speaking with them and trade schools along with a union rep to see what works best for you and to give yourself options.
💯 💯
Should I go to college first and get a level 2 certificate then go into the apprenticeship or should I just go straight into an apprenticeship? (UK)
Not sure what you’re asking my friend! What do you mean by outsider and admission?
Is it possible for me to become a Plumber with Autism and ADHD?
Personally I don’t see why that would be a problem, but if plumbing is something you’re interested in I would look into an apprenticeship program where they can better assist you. Best of luck man. Let me know how it goes 💯 💯
@@LIFE-N-PLUMBING Ok great thank you for your advice and I will definitely look into it for sure 👍
That would be contented on your foreman if he's the type of person that likes to see people succeed, then yes
I passed the exam im in.
Let’s Go!!!!!! Congrats bro 😎 👍
From what I understand union apprenticeships are extremely difficult to get, like only a 15 or 20 percent acceptance rate. Is that true ?
My apprenticeship was known non-union so I wouldn’t be able to answer that for sure.
I do have friends you have journeyed out non-union who are now union.
From what I’ve been told it is not an easy process but over time (some months) they did get in. As far as becoming an apprentice I’m sure it’s just a waiting game and those who are persistent will eventually get in if you stay on top of it.
Is it possible to find job after college? Without apprenteship, real job for real serious salary. All vacancies required 2-3 years of experience
Not sure what you mean but if you wanna know if you become a plumber without a license yeah, I wouldn’t recommend it though, being certified as a journeyman plumber will open more doors and higher pay 💰
Wats the easiest way to get into plumbing
Depends on what kind of plumbing you trying to get in to. Commercial, residential, service. I always suggest going through a non union or union program. It’s a little work at first but definitely worth it in the end
Are plumbers allowed to urinate in the toilets they are fixing or must they do their business elsewhere?
I want to do plumbing but i dont want to deal with toilets what should i do ?
Become a commercial plumber not service plumber, but either way it’s not as bad as you thing when you protect yourself properly lol
In Commercial a lot of times it’s new construction but there are remodels that consist of existing water closet removals but it’s not that bad.
@@LIFE-N-PLUMBING aw man i wish i would of known cause im starting IT i was thinking of commericial or new construction but if i get invested in plumbing i might do that but for now ill stick with IT
Is it to old to become a plumber at the age of 50?
Your never to old, that’s what I believe 💯
Not at all good luck 😊
50 is the new 40,it really is.
Man I keep hearing how 50 isn’t to old but idk cause it takes 5-8 years before you’re gonna be making any real money with it
Could you please suggest a real school name in NY?
I’m from Cali but I looked up a non Union school which is ABCNYC in New York.
Look up “Associated Builders and Owners”
Also check out the union as well and see what works. ✊🏽

Ayeeee! Much appreciated bro 💯

Should I become a plumber if my names Mario or will I be roasted every day
Maybe as a service plumber lol but definitely not commercial 💯
