sadly, back in oct.1981, nobody understood with Prince' open for the Rolling Stones .. we already knew back then that Prince was an amazing entertainer. He could sing he could shred the hell out of a guitar and he certainly could dance and he wrote some pretty amazing songs. He is gone way too soon. I’m 75 and I’m white and I think he was phenomenal.

    • @michaelbonanno7476

Hey Anthony... I was at that Rolling Stones concert back in '81 with a bunch of people from high school. I was way up in the stands so I couldn't see it very well from where we were sitting. What was strange was that the music that Prince played was more similar to what was being played over the intercom while we were waiting for the bands to come on stage - only with Prince's music you could actually dance to it. One of the big deals back then was what he chose to wear (a speedo and a raincoat), but I'm sure there was a bit of racism too.
I remember this being a time in our culture of the big divide between people who would admit that they liked disco - and those that chose rock in roll. Prince dared to combine them.
I really would have liked to have seen Prince's set. But... wouldn't we all now! Such a crazy world this can be!

    Prince was 19 years old.
It is called Loring Park Sessions ’77, a series of free recording sessions in the studio of Loring Park (Minneapolis) owned by Owen Husney, Prince’s first manager. Eight tracks, all instrumental and untitled, realized with the participation of bassist Andre’ Cymone and drummer Bobby Z, who will soon become members of Prince’s first band.

Thank you! Was going to ask if anybody knew the line-up. Like, that's some fierce bass. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Prince, but I sure like that it was people playing together vs 1 multi-tracking like we're all doing lately.

Ok I have been a Prince fan for 43 years and This is the first time I have had the honor of hearing this. WOW. Yes. Yet another gift from his Majesty. This one is special though. I have been a professional musician for over 30 years and this is the first time I have ever 'jammed with Prince' my gawd I am having the time of my life. These pieces are bringing things out of me through my guitar that are beautiful. I am free! I think this came to me tonight because I am ready to have it. Again, thank you Prince.

Thanks for having the good musical smarts to enlighten us. I just need to decipher the keys to play cross harp. Any help would be appreciated. ..will try the chromatic till then.

I saw Prince live on several occasions. I have never seen anyone that so completely fulfilled their musical existence. He was born to be a conduit of music.
About this Jam session: Usually I find that musicians that can perform on a higher level like this would not be interested in writing or performing pop music. Take for example someone like Buddy Rich who thumbed his nose at anything that wasn't Jazz. One of Prince's great strengths was to write great pop records (and do them well), but then in a live performance inject all kinds of elements into those songs that might otherwise become only re-performances of the record. He also seemed to know at which concert to turn-up the other elements (smaller venues, fan-based shows) and when to just "wow" with the hits. You also never seemed to get the same version of any song at a show, it was musically fresh and often better every time!

I'd be honored if some Prince fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal TH-cam performances of PURPLE RAIN and DIAMONDS & PEARLS in tribute to the greatest songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist of all time. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and RESPECT to the genius of Prince.

He sure dissapoints and very often too! Lets be honest! He is one of my biggest 5 idols in music! But he made a lot of crap too right?😂😂 Scandalous? You always in my hair? Heaven? Erotica city? GLAM Slam? Thieves in the Temple? Gold? Dolphin? Pussy control? Betchagonnawellowow? Sometimes it shows in April? Dinner with Dolores? Chelsea Rogers? Peach? Etc etc etc!😂😂😂😂😂😂 Billy Jack bitch? The pope? AND ALL HIS OTHER SHIT BALLADS I CANT REMEMBER!😂😂😂😂 but this kind of work is out of this world! Also his guitar play but not always! A true MOZART Who thaught that everything he made was excellent! Making ONE song a day is every 6 or 10 days a good song!❤❤❤❤ BUT besides that i have to admit that if you judge him in general, he controlled different styles and instruments and his knowledge of music in history and present is EXTRA ORDINARY! But he was a worthless dancer and when he sang high it was shit! Only Kiss was a good song whit his high voice and maybe the song ' most beautiful girl in the world' or "god"! Speaking about the dead nothing but good! BUT..........WE are all true fans right?
So we know better than the rest! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I wish we had heard this music at the beginning of Prince's career, but it's pretty clear why we didn't if you put the time in context. Warner Bros. Records was signing this incredible musical prodigy to an unprecedented 3 album deal around this exact time and they wanted a "the new Stevie Wonder"-sized return on their investment. Releasing fusion-jazz-funk albums wasn't going to make that happen. So, this just went into the vault so Prince could focus on becoming a bankable soul-pop star. All of this notwithstanding, these recordings are a stunning insight into Prince's unassailable genius that was already fully-formed from the beginning. I truly want this material to be officially released. I'm dying to hear it in pristine sound quality on my home stereo.

well said! Reminds me of that story Questlove tells about the time he and John Mayer were in the studio coming up with all kinds of amazing things, and then some label manager caught them "wasting time", and snatched John Mayer away to work on his "real" project. Who knows what crazy things they were coming up with that just ended up in a vault. Maybe we'll finally get to hear it in 2037

The mind-blowing improvised funk sessions feature a 19 year old Prince on keys/guitar, Andre Cymone on bass, and Bobby Z on drums, held in the Loring Park office rehearsal room of Prince’s first manager, Owen Husney. Prince also takes on drums and bass throughout the session, switching it up for a thoroughly impressive session.
This is a must-listen for any fan! These eight instrumental tracks sound more like well-crafted compositions rather than the improvised jams that they are.
