- Earth My Body. Nature love music. Song and chant performed by Nicole Sangsuree Barrett.
This unfinished version of our video was released when Sang was hit and killed by a car in Thailand. She had called the song her magnum opus. I sung Earth My Body, and other indigenous chants Sang had taught me, as i knelt by her body on the road.
I shared more with Sang than I have with anyone on the planet, my lover, play mate, twin spirited eco-dweeb. We brainstormed through lifetimes of inspirations for uplifting our planet and her people.
My lovely, may your message of reverence and reconnection to nature pour into every broken heart and help us all to heal.
The 'Earth My Body' beginning and end is based on a Native American chant, the sentiment of which echos throughout indigenous cultures around the world - Recognising that we are pieces of the living planet, awakened into self awareness.
Sharing the very elements of our bodies with all of life.

I heard this song 7 yrs ago while recuperating from spinal surgery, Chef Sara Wong had posted the sad announcement of your niece passing on her IG acct back then. I haven’t heard this song again. A few weeks ago while driving through Death Valley, NV to California, Oregon coast and back home, I kept hearing a tune and the only words I heard was “Earth my Body,” not knowing if this was a real song or something spirit brought forward as part of my gratitude for this earth. Today I signed on to TH-cam and typed earth my body, and tears flowed when I saw this video again after 7 years. Wow, such a gift to my heart today as healing continues in my heart. Blessings to her beautiful spirit and to your family. I’m back home in Seattle craving the ocean on the Oregon coast again Blessings.

We are in San Francisco attending my brother-in-law‘s funeral and I was just putting his ashes into a vial for my husband and as I was doing this I was reminded of the same ceremony we performed many years ago with my niece Nicole‘s ashes and out of nowhere your reply pops up. I sing this sometimes to open our ceremonies, and always offer up thanksgiving to Nicole for writing this lovely song around the old “Earth My Body” chant. I consciously honor her each time I sing this, showing that her spirit lives on through the beauty of her music.
I heard this for the first time today and tears streamed down my face as it touched me deeply... I did not know who she was or what the story was when I listened... I'm so blown away. Her life may have been brief but she is a treasure and a gift to the world. Chi miigwetch sister.

She was wonderful and cheesy and would get all her friends to do sing alongs and people might have grumbled but then we all bonded for life by singing all those nights together. One time she carried a song I wrote to Thailand and taught people while they built houses for people. She knew how to bring people together and break down barriers. This video was her last gift to us.
This is one of the most powerful songs I have ever listened to. I LOVE her music sang from her soul and not just her voice. WOW What an incredible gift to the world. The chorus, Earth my Body, Water my Blood, Air my Breath, and Fire my Spirit, has been recorded as a Native American chant. I have been doing that chant before ever hearing this song by Nicole. Did she write that too or did she just take that chant and create a song around it? It is really beautiful.
Hi Debbie - Sang took the chant and added the verses. Perhaps the final version will be called 'Light of stories' as Sang - her name, means 'The Light' in Thai.

The coronavirus lockdown has me remembering people that impacted or impressed me. If someone comes across my mind I try and find them to tell them how much they meant to me. Nicole was such a person and today she fluttered across my mind. I was stunned to find that she had passed away six years ago.
She and I met in Portland while working on a political campaign for gay rights. She had recently returned from Thailand where she helped after the tsunami. She had witnessed horrific things and was turning those experiences into art and inspiration. It was amazing to watch. Her smile and energy lit up the place and her talents were epic. I went to see her perform many time at little cafes and played her homemade CDs while I did creative projects.
Talk about a life that will go on, and on, and on; hers is such a life and legacy. Imma go listen to some of her songs now, then maybe figure out how to do better at changing the world. I hope I'll make her proud. peace.
