      Yes sir. It's nice that Oldman finally started to get Oscar attention in his mid-50s, but it's also criminal how his most revered and influential work (80s, 90s, early 00s) was *completely ignored* by the Academy. Pure politics.

As time has gone on denero has fallen down the list for a lot of people bc his best work is basically the same guy. Oldman imo blows denero away. Just him as the pimp in true romance is incredible. U would never believe that character is playing by a man w/ such an eloquent english accent.

He's always inspiring...if you're an actor, basically you want to be as versatile and as intense as Mr. Oldman is. Very cool to hear Leo name-drop STATE OF GRACE...that is THE Irish mob film, far better than the comparatively-cartoonish THE DEPARTED (with Leo, obviously) and Oldman's performance is absolutely sensational. He should have won the Oscar over Pesci that year.

    I remember really first seeing Gary in the Bale's Batman movies. I've heard of that name but not really familiar with him, thought he looked the part and did great. Few years later, I'm watching Book of Eli and I didn't even recognize it was Gary. I was so blown away by his performance and the complete switch. Even when I did recognize him, I was like "that can't be who I think, can it?". The following year Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy came out and man, it pretty much sealed it as my favorite actor.

In Sid and Nancy "he is Sid", and in State Of Grace he's just amazing, and stands out like a light, even with Ed Harris and Sean Penn. Just so believable as the characters he plays. He's right there with Dinero IMO.

    Listening to George Clooney, I am not really too sure about how I should take him.
    Given the type of language that he uses he sounds as if Oldman pisses him off but from what I know of Clooney is that he's really just a gentle giant and sometimes that's just his way of emphasising what a great actor he believes Oldman to be.

    • @jogon7914
      @jogon7914 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Early on in his career it was hard to recognise him from role to role as he consumed himself in every role and looked so different in evyrole.
      What's happened for the last 15 to 20 years is he has become very recognisable and his performances are - although always magnetic and truly great acting crsft- somewhat similar now. His roles in Book Of Eli, RoboCop, and most films he's done since 2001 onwards are similar. There's only so much he can change himself.
      But look at Coxy in Meantime, Sid Vicious, Joe Orton, Jackie Flannery, Dracula, Beethoven, True Romance, up to Smiley and Churchill.....he used to reinvent himself every single time. No other actor is capable of bringing so many shades and nuances and difference to each new character they play. Now, he's allowed to relax a little and just be Gary Oldman in samey kind of films because he did what hardly any other actor has done for the craft.
      I mean, damn, in Hannibal I had to wait for the credits to realise he was in it. And yes I know he was heavily disfigured in it but his accents are different every time too.

    Dracula is under rated for its performances. Gary gives lon Chaney and Bella lugosi and Marlon Brando in one. And what Anthony Hopkins does with the rhythm of the language is so damn good. The actress who plays Lucy killed it. I don't even hate Keanu in it because he comes across as a fool and I barely feel sorry for him. It helps that I first saw it dubbed into a different language so I didn't have the bad accent. But gary gave a performance of pure evil unlike any depictions of the devil or a monster. Peter storm are and guy pierce are also under rated for their acting chops.
