Best-selling author and clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson explains how incremental daily changes can lead to a better life and ultimately a more harmonious world.

Reminds me of that anonymous internet poem:
"When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.
I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family.
My family and I could have made an impact on our town.
Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world."

It's not just Turkey day. It's a day to count our blessings, give thanks to the Lord, and be grateful for what we have. The first thanksgiving was to celebrate the survival of half of the Plymouth Rock infant colony after the winter. Our first thanksgiving as a nation was called for by George Washington to lift our spirits from the hardships we faced in the Revolution and to appreciate what we fought for. It was officially declared a national holiday during the Civil war by Lincoln to remind us of the good things in our lives even in the middle of a bloody war of brothers. Taking time to count our blessings no matter how bad things get is as American as working to achieve our dreams. They just don't remember their history and what being an American means.

Jordan is wrong for this/his political paradigm processing projection. This shit is Apples and Oranges, politics and understanding the EGO are two different things. Video quote, "the proper way to fix the world isn't to fix the world", yet he can by telling you what to do or think. At the same time projecting a political statement - paradigm processing. A degree does not make him right. Change does start from within, however, it is about becoming the watcher of your ego and its effect on time, i.e., psychological time (past and future). For example, he did this video to project his ego, his political opinion. He talked about his degree twice to prove he knew what he was talking about. Finally, the video starts political and changes to a personal and psychological attack on you.

This is the thing. I have no more love for giant corporations than the next guy. In fact, one of the biggest in the world screwed me over and eliminated my job about 10 years ago. But going on whining about the "big guy" screwing you over gets you nowhere. If someone came in the next day and shut that company down, it would have done me no good. I still wouldn't have had a job. What got me back up and going again? Doing something about it myself. I didn't demand retribution, I thought outside the box, learned a new skill, and now have a job I love working for a small business as a manager. An opportunity the "big guys" never gave me. But it didn't happen through them being torn down, it happened through me building myself up. Hence why I could never be a leftist. I believe in consequences, self motivation, and responsibility...not handouts from big daddy government.

We were buried in debt, had bad financial prospects, we were overweight and unhealthy, had infidelity and pornography issues, and we just weren’t seeing eye to eye. But somehow, we stayed together. Each of us took responsibility in our turns for our failings, rather than pointing the finger. I was extremely hurt but I knew that wallowing in sorrow, anger, or depression wasn’t the route to improving our situation. We climbed out of debt, trained for and got new careers, took my wife’s dream vacation, bought our first home, and are now hopeful adoptive parents. This only took a few years of taking responsibility. We looked the monster in the face and deciding to go after it head on. We gained self respect and competence. It’s the only way to fix your problems, everything else is delusion.

So much about this is just wrong
First, we ain't rich, the only people we are richer than are the third world nations, take them out of the picture and you can easily see how poor americans are
The average american can't afford to raise a kid, 30k a year isn't even half what you need to raise a kid per year.
Can't afford luxuries because every single bill of necessity has risen while the dollar a has crumbled
the food that we eat is mostly garbage, a lot of which makes us sick
most people have maxed out their credit with us basically being in a depression right now, if you believe we aren't in a depression then you need to look at the REAL numbers and not the lies they tell to you and look at the markets, most have dropped significantly and people haven't even woken up yet, they are still sleeping
more americans on welfare than any other point and time in our history
employment numbers being a complete and utter lie, they don't even include people who stopped looking for work among other things in those numbers etc.
And I could go on and on and on and on about how much they keep lying to you, but very soon everyone will get their wake up call. Are you prepared?

      @Bluzian74 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@cyrusademola1326 Sure, but unfortunately, "upper class" and "white male privilege" is frowned upon. That's my point. If cleaning your room causes one to be "more noble", and you then are motivated to do bigger things, one's enriched behaviour is then discriminated against by a lower class of people who are not only inferior, but also a mob rule that then interferes with, and impedes on the lives of those who DO clean their rooms and who DO strive for higher goals (ie: knowledge).
Simply put, there's NO point in cleaning your room or reaching for higher goals. It's all a rigged game. Every last bit of it.That I can assure you. Cleaning a room for the sake of cleaning a room for the sake of it. Wow. I mess it up just to clean it all over again. Moral Tautology? Ethically cyclical? Purposelessnessnessness....?

    • @Bluzian74
      @Bluzian74 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@juro jurić it's not about race or nationality; I think you're totally missing my point. Im referring to standards, higher attainments, better scores... Thus, it would seem to me, that the over-all, general mass population doesn't try, and they have not only widened the goal posts, shortened the yard line, they've also lowered the standards. How could and why would a higher achieving Olympian like myself who cleans his room wish or want to even be subjected to a lower , sub-standard? But what's worse, is, that some who have strived for self-improvement are now lambasted and discriminated against - merely for cleaning a room. (My room was already clean 40 years ago). I already ticked that off the box. I realize that, long as my door step is clean, no worries.. sure, ok, fine... but imagine that the majority fo the people who don't clean their door step, and collectively, they are part of this sub-par, herd pack mentality that bullies and prevents others from achieving even HIGHER goals!?
So, I'm supposed to converse with you, a person who doesn't speak as good of English as me. Are we supposed to be equal? Ought someone who has gone to great lengths not be rewarded? And rewarded MORE? (as in meritocracy?). See, we now live in a world of "equal outcomes" and cripples can joint the NBA, girls can join the boy scouts, transgenders can be on the cover of Playboy, and omg.. it just makes me wanna kill myself. LOL the world has moral AIDS. The people in the world just aren't good enough anymore. Its like a regression analysis or something. Accepting that this is the truth, THEN WHAT? Nothing has any value anymore. When does one give up their moral compass to "join 'em"? Why even bother trying hard, or fixing yourself, when others are hell bent on maintaining the status quo of brokenness? Does this make sense?

This is an old, but pertinent, preaching illustration:
There was a man in his study working on a project for work and his young son came him seeking help with a complex puzzle of the world. When the boy asked for the third time, his daddy told him to go away and that he would help him when he finished work. When he finished, he went to his son’s room, found him getting ready for bed and the puzzle completed on the floor. The father said, “see you didn’t need any help.” The boy said, “well, the puzzle had two sides. On this side was a picture of the world, but on the other side was a picture of a man. I knew that if I put together the man then I could fix the world.”

The things he preaches are useful ways to improve yourself and how you feel about yourself. They help set what is more important to pay attention to in life. The things opposite what he says only serve to make people unhappy and blame the world for everything, which leads to an ever increasing downward spiral in people's lives.

Dr. William Martin hi Dr. Martin, I sense a touch of resentment in your analysis of Peterson and I’m sure you’ll agree that it’d only drive you down the path of hopelessness.
Having a degree is totally irrelevant. Most people without a degree really are smart and with video, I was able to detach Peterson, the person from the message. I listened to the message and you cannot fault the message if you did that. Peterson’s critics cannot even attack his messages and they attacked him instead which is just stupid.
If you as a pauper was giving me advice on how you lost your money so I could learn from that, I would listen and not attack you as a person, saying you had a degree or you were a drunk blah blah. I would detach your personal trait from the message then critique the message, if message was helpful then I’ll listen.
Now watch this video again then come with the critique without mentioning or referring to the person delivering it.

Dr. Peterson is a gem. I have incorporated his book 12 Rules of Life into my own life and I am much more focused, and successful. My son is also much better now that he has read the book and started the steps. Thanks a million.

That is deep. He assumes we all will get that statement. Most of us think only I feel life is a burden kind of thing. Hey maybe most of us do feel that way, but hide it best we can. I wonder what the truth really is?

@@roboparks I Googled "American Evangelism Gandhi" and the top result is a wiki page about a popular Evangelist who was close friends with Mahatma Gandhi, and eventually wrote a biography on the man after he was killed.
Why do you feel the need to lie? It's such a small lie too; even if it was true that "American Evangelism" (Broad term) says that Gandhi is an agent of the devil (it doesn't), not all American Conservatives are Evangelicals (I'm not). Hell, a large number of the people who speak on this channel are Jewish.

When we focus primarily on changing our own selves, we are empowered with an amazing sense of self-efficacy. And when we get a taste of how much we can actually change and grow through determination and self-discipline, we get an additional appreciation of what we can accomplish in our life and contribute to the betterment of others. This energizes us! 😀
On the other hand, when we primarily blame others, we develop feelings of resentment, dependance and helplessness... which depletes us. 😣

I am 56 years old now. Wise words of wisdom. I was divorced many years ago and it took me awhile to at least admit there was plenty of blame to go around for my failed marriage. The 2 best things I've done for myself in this life was to join the army at 19 where I learned team work, service and truly embraced the idea of be all that you can be. The second was to accept Christ in my life, it's not all about me, God put each of us here for purpose and like any good father he has hopes that we will all live up to our potential. Have goals and work towards them, shine live up to your potential. I'm doing so you will make this a better world and set an example for others to follow.
