    Made some of these yesterday and I love them! I added some ground chili flakes for some spice and lemon juice for some others. I appreciate how you used materials that we all probably have at home, cuz I don't have a candy thermometer nor moulds. New subscriber!

      Thank you for this comment! Its always nice to read how people got on with my recipes.
      I'm glad you appreciated the choice of materials😅 I posted this on reddit and some people complained that it looked like to much work to set up. But I purposefully spent time working out how to make this recipe as accessible as possible, because I myself don't have an appropriate mould, and my thermometer is pretty bad.

    Good way to make dragon ball candies, just add some little star sprinkles to the centers before putting the two halves together.

    I have currently started these, I will update when the sugar solidifies. I really like the use of materials we would already have!

    Eh, my only gripe is that the recipe in game says "Instantly refills some of your Stamina Wheel. A natural sweet, brimming with nutrition and made by stewing fresh honey", which sounds to me like just boiling raw unfiltered honey until it reaches the right temp to crystalize into a hard candy, either soft or hard crack stage.

    • @jakeslife4152
      @jakeslife4152  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree! I actually tried using just honey in some of my tests, but it always burned before it got to the right temperature. I'm guessing that it has something to do with the other compounds present in the honey that aren't there in pure sugar, and that these compounds burn at a lower temperature than the pure sugar.
      So for the recipe, the only compromise I could find was to bring the bulk of the sugar to the crack stage, then add in some honey, so that it was heated for a shorter amount of time and didn't burn🔥
      The honey flavour is definitely there though, so I think It was a good solution to the problem👍

      @@jakeslife4152 That makes sense, I've only ever really used honey as an add in for breads and other things like that and my ability at making hard candy is..well..subpar at best and non-existent at worst so I'll take your word on this since you went through the trouble of testing it and it didn't work out without the added sugar.

      @@ShinKyuubi Hard candy it quite tricky to make, it took me quite a few attempts to get this recipe right😅
      I've never used honey in bread before but it sounds really delicious! Do you have a favourite recipe that you use often? I'd love to give it a try!

      @@jakeslife4152 For bread? I like making a classic crusty white bread loaf with some sourwood honey mixed into the dough, it gives it a really nice flavor, and I use just some cheap $1 cornmeal to dust the bottom of the cookie sheet I use since I like to make big round loafs when I make bread by hand. The honey would also go really well in a whole wheat bread recipe for making homemade honey wheat loaves. The cornmeal keeps them from sticking and gives a nice crunchy bottom and the crusty bread recipes give a nice 'thunk' sound when you tap them..it's a soft spot for me since it's the first type of bread I learned to make by hand when my grandma said if I wanted a bread machine then I should learn how to do it by hand first...and the effort you put into it DOES make a difference in taste in the end since I do own a bread machine and there is a subtle difference in taste between the two that comes from the whole process as opposed to just chucking it all in a machine and letting it do the work.
      I've actually an idea tickling around in my brain and you might be able to give it a try. I've wanted to try and make a Senzu bean from the Dragon Ball series that isn't fruit flavor candy jellybean or health food puff. My idea was to make a mold of a group of lima beans using a food safe silicon mold kit and trying to make a Boston Baked Bean style candy shell in that shape around some peanut halves. Reason for the custom mold and not just a jellybean mold? Senzu are based off lima beans in shape..only problem is I've been debating on using soft crack stage or hard crack stage for the outer shell.

    Wow! I have never seen someone make hard candy in a microwave that's so cool love the idea ps how long does it take to do? It seems like it would take a eternity to microwave haha 😂

    • @Silverwind87
      @Silverwind87 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assume that you'd have to set the microwave at, like, half power. You should only microwave for a few seconds at a time, or the sugar might burn or turn into a tiny bubbling cauldron.

    How would you go about putting something in the middle of these candies, like a honey candy with a pecan or berry inside of it

    • @jakeslife4152
      @jakeslife4152  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like an interesting idea!
      If you want the filling to be perfectly trapped in the candy it might be easiest to first fill each mould with a drop of the molten candy first, then let it cool and harden a bit. After that you can place the filling on top and fill the mould up with more molten candy (use a toothpick to centre the filling if it has moved around).
      I've never tried it, but I think what I have suggested should work🤞
