THIS IS AN AWSOME RECIEPT i have a large family and this is great all 8 kids shut up and helped out today im thinking christmas now candy and nuts talk about time warp because i remember when my grand mother would make candies and geathered nuts from the last harvest on the nut farm and that was our stocking stuffers
You see, I never really had grandparents.. My grandmother on my mom's side called me grossvand overweight when I was like 7.. It almost made me anorexic, thank god my parents were perceptive of it early on. But again, I never really had grandparents. But when I stumbled on this channel, I feel like I finally understand the whole grandparent thing. Honestly, he's so sweet and goofy and I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I made this recipe 3 times and it’s the best one on TH-cam. His simple steps are the key. But you gotta keep stirring or you’ll burn it. But it turns out really well. Enjoy.
My six year old loved this video! Last Christmas I made ribbon candy and candy canes, it's similar but as it starts to cool you work the candy and shape it.
Thank you! I love licorice but not soft chewy licorice. So I decided to make my own with a little Anise extract and black food coloring. ;) Can't wait to make it.
I made my candies while watching your guiding video and it was really helpful!! Your instruction is clear and straight forward, simple to follow! I also got my own experience while making them. It seems like the more water I put the harder the candy dries. So for the third time I put less water but more syrup and sugar, then the candy became very quick to dry. I also put in different food colors. However it seems difficult to make them into shapes so I ended up with random shapes like porcelain fragments of!! My friends love them!! Thank you so much for your video and your assistant. p.s I love those cute animals pop up sometimes~~~
Thank you so so much!. I used to pay $26.99 plus shipping for a 5lb bag of white rock candy to decorate my Geode Cakes. I did not place mine in the freezer cause I was afraid I would get condensation. And, I also used just a few drops of a clear lemon flavor cause I need to keep it clear white. Thanks once again
You made this look so easy! My girls use to ask me to make anise candy EVERY year. It was a 50/50 chance it would turn out (either I didn't cook it long enough, or I burned it!). Maybe now that I have a digital thermometer I may be more successful! Anyway....thanks for the memories!
Yeah I have done my research and that is about as cheap as you can get it, I am sure there are other sources. Yet they are a hard find, I want a few ounces of each flavor or more.. Yet do not want to pay 100s to 1000s for it all!
I used (on first try at this) 1/3 Honey, 3/3 White Sugar, 1 old Banana (mashed into the melting sugar/honey mix) and some vanilla flavouring no water or acid. It made a soft candy and tasted great
just saw this video, my mom made this for years in a variety of flavors and colors. Brad is absolutely correct on the when it hits it sticks I still have the scars to prove it. just be aware that some flavors can easily take your breath away as they are quite strong (cinnamon, peppermint etc) I do like your cutting method though I dont remember it taking so long to harden on the sheet pan, but maybe we had ours thinner. and we did a light coating of oil to help it not stick to the pan.
Jus made your candy recipe and I loved it! Came out perfectly. I have been making glass candy for years...the recipe I use comes out great and taste like cotton candy...however, because I use vinegar in my recipe it alters the taste of flavorings a ittle. I used a green apple flavor today and it is great. So thx u with a huge smiley face...
sorry..the corn syrup/gmo so im making with xylitol anise licorice and water because I do not do sugar and dont have a thermometer,,hope it works out..healthy candy..do you have a time measurement?
Nice! I like to use the square molds from Hobby Lobby to make little "jewels" and no powered sugar needed. No thermometer needed either, just cook about 7 minutes and test in cold water to cold crack stage. And yes, I lick the spoon after it cools! :) 50 cents, no, those flavors are almost $2 a piece now. :) Love the animals too!
I almost made the comment, "Get the animals out of the kitchen." because it was driving me crazy. Then I thought... hey...It's Brad... and took a deep breath. I really laughed when I saw your comments at the end of the video. Keep those videos coming.
@@Zarglog I used some wax and decarbed it just before putting it in so it was liquidey. Tinctures should be fine if they're pretty concentrated, but if they're not very concentrated I'd subtract out however many ml of tincture is going in from the amount of water this recipe calls for, that way it's not too liquidey.
I really, really, really, really, really enjoyed this video. You might all enjoy my Mom and Dad's sugared popcorn. Pop a batch of popcrn and set aside in a large bowl. Next do a basic sugar and water (no glycerin or corn syrup) recipe to the point it will harden when you put a drop in a saucer of cold water (you want it to essentially recrystalize on the popcorn). Pour slowly over the popcorn stiring CONSTANTLY. It will coat your popcorn with a thin even coat of crispy goodness. Because it is at the hard crack stage and you've stirred/ tossed the corn lightly the whole time while pouring very slowly in a thin stream from above the pan, the sugar will harden as it coats and your popcorn won't be sticky and clump. Some like the combination of salty and sweet, so use salted popcorn. If not, use hot air popcorn. It may or may not be flavored. I prefer the pure popcorn flavor. I also like to leave the natural color which hardens snowy white. One more note: It is much easier with 2 people; one pouring while the other stirs/tosses and stabalizes the bowl, giving it a slight rotaion to ensure an even distribution. It may sound complicated, but it is not.
+Big Family Homestead HI, I wish I could, but age and degenerative arthritis has me nearly totally disabled. I wrote the directions from 'sweet' and happy memories. I didn't mention that in th late seventies I LIVED IN PARIS
I too have severe RA and I am in my low 40's. I know just what it can do to a person. I have been given Turmeric and have been taking it... It's supposed to do wonders for arthritis, I have only been on it for a few days, but I honestly notice a difference.
Billy Branch Homestead Just between you and me, don't stick it in the freezer like I did... it cools off to fast. be patient in the cooling, you will be rewarded ;)
I attempted to make hard candy today, but I don't know it's solidifying. It basically created a skin on top and now that it's cooling in the fridge it dents and not cracks. What did I do wrong?
"You are probably thinking 'has he lost his marbles?' The answer is, Yes!" Gorgeous words
Yay, Goats!!
I made this candy at Christmas. I made 4 different flavors. I had not seen this video before today but you made it exactly the same way I did!
Been coming back to this video for over 4 yrs now, such a fabulous simple reference point for Candy making 😊

That bunny though XD SO CUTEE!

I've watched this video 3 times before making medicated hard candy; now adopted into the process of a sku in one of my edible product. Thank you

Thank you Big Family Homestead. My kids would have starved without this video
Just a hint (from another TH-camr's recipe): put parchment paper on the cookie sheer before pouring the candy - easier to remove for the breakup!
Thank you. I was wondering what the best method was... I was also thinking of cooking spray but that might ruin the flavor.
@@marigeobrienFoil works fine too

Thank you ❤️ I have to make ice cubes for a cake, I appreciate you, Gods Blessings on your week!
Thank you for this video. It's 2020 and I'm looking for fun easy to make gifts. I'm 1 minute in and grateful for the animals.

I’m gonna try this recipe, seems fun and not so difficult. Thumbs up for the little bun.
can we make it without corn syrup?
Loved the critters in the kitchen. I usually have a few furry helpers in mine when cooking. Think I'll make some of this candy for Easter.
That cute little bunny!! I love this candy vid!
The rabbit's nice too eh.
is there any corn syrup substitute please ?
Honey or mollasses
Is their some kind of teflon cup tray made for small sweets instead of cupckaes?
this would be a nice Christmas treat to send my kids. thank you.
Marjorie Eades Pretty easy too! Just keep a sharp eye on the temp in the last 40-50 degrees...

can you use honey and ginger instead of flavoring and reduce the amount of sugar and light corn syrup

Do you have a deep frying thermometer?
Doreene Andres have a cup of cold water and occasionally put a drop of the mix in it and if it solidifies it's ready
Boil until spoon, when dipped in boiled sugar and held high, makes a string and when dropped in cold water forms a ball you can pick up...
Is it necessary to use corn oil? or I can use other things?
Thats the recipe we have, I don't know as we have not tried any other...
Can I add coconut extract to it??
Harold Gonzales. It is not corn oul. It is corn syrup. Very sweet. Can find it in baking section of grocery store.
