    Hi Steve, Your channel has been invaluable for me in my surfskate journey... great work, keep it up :)
    I've been surfskating for a few months now on a YOW Padang Padang, which is an awesome board and I've now started getting into bowls. You're using a Carver Black Tip and I believe you are about the same height & build as me, 6.1? Would you recommend the Black Tip as a good choice for me to progress with bowl riding?
    Many thanks again for the fantastic content.

      What's your stance width? (Have you seen my formula?)

    • @richardbarclay9095
      @richardbarclay9095 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, very interesting. My stance is 20 inches, which matches my YOW perfectly. It seems to me that the C7 trucks might suit bowl riding better?

      @@richardbarclay9095 I found them to be too loose. Even when fully tightened. But that could be just personal preference.

      And the final extension, especially the backfoot push, is what have been missing for us so far. Thanks again!

  • @interruptor
    @interruptor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dude, I'd be careful about pushing down on your back foot coming out of the transition. Push down on both feet (you need weight over the front truck) or you risk coming out in an out of control manual (i.e. falling on your butt). Seeing the slow motion you actually seem to have your weight at the front, you're maybe just distributing it a bit more evenly.

    • @SurfskateLove
      @SurfskateLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you're absolutely right. I did that a few times at the beginning. I'm just trying to stress it here so people feel it. You're right, you need to learn the proper weight distribution and balance. But you also want to really feel that propulsion coming out of the transition. Yeah?

    Question: you often talk about the ‘transitions.’ What is/are those referring to? Thank you 🙏🏼

    • @SurfskateLove
      @SurfskateLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Transitioning from a horizontal plane to a vertical plane. That's why you'll also hear it referred to as "vertical" or "vert" skating. And by definition, all surfing is vertical riding. It's all coming up and down transitions.

    Steve, you are starting to look smooth bowl riding. Didn’t know a leaf blower was an essential surfskating accessory. That blower going to be a hidden prop in every episode? Like Psych used to have a pineapple in every episode.

    • @SurfskateLove
      @SurfskateLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to carry a broom in my truck. And yeah, it's essential. I always have to sweep/blow either water or debris out of parks, pretty much every day. My friend Gavin saw me posting pictures with my broom, so he sent me a blower. I always keep it in my car and as I said, I use it every morning.

    • @rvdt4ever

      @@SurfskateLove Broom, leaf blower and bigger car added to the shopping list. I might have to carry the leaf blower with me at all times when I ride. Lots of sand and small pebbles here. Look at you now, you have the bowl fever. Just little fine tuning(we all need that in the bowl) but other than that you got it. The bowl is truly your best teacher it will force you to do it right and you pay dearly if you don't comply 😆. Makes you learn faster too. Great job Steve in your progression!

      "The bowl is truly your best teacher it will force you to do it right and you pay dearly if you don't comply"
      YES! Well said. With street skating, you can get away with a lot of bad technique, and really not even know it. But in the bowl, there's one way to do it and one way only. You conform to the material.

    Great videos! Question: on your Carver, can you drop in to a bowl from the top - or do you have to start in the pool? (My skateboard friends note that the higher wheel base and looser trucks make it much more difficult). Again, thanks for the great content!

    • @SurfskateLove
      @SurfskateLove  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You very much can drop in. It's my current project. I wouldn't know if it's more difficult than a skateboard because I've never tried on a skateboard. I've only used Carver CX trucks. But I imagine it would be easier on a skateboard, which is more stable.

    Have you tried tortoise pads? Which hip pads do you like to use?

    • @SurfskateLove
      @SurfskateLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never heard of tortoise pads.
      While learning bowl riding, I've used these ones from Burton: www.burton.com/us/en/p/mens-burton-total-impact-short%2C-protected-by-gform-/W21-102881.html
      Those are actually for snowboarding. The advantage of those is that they are thin so you can't even see that you're wearing them, so you don't look like you're wearing a diaper. The disadvantage is that they don't give you as much padding.
      But I'm currently learning how to drop in the bowl. So for that I wanted more padding, and I'm using these:
      www.amazon.com/dp/B07KJJ3YF3?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details
      There are lots of those on Amazon. The advantage is that they give you more padding. The disadvantage is that they look like you're wearing a diaper.

    Hey Steve, nice video. I am always learning with you!! I am a beginner and never ride bowls before.

    • @SurfskateLove
      @SurfskateLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never seen the Pipe. I would never use the Pukas in the bowl because it has no concave so your feet slide around a lot. For the bowl you need a good concave deck that locks your feet in. But I wouldn't use either in the bowl because I don't like the Meraki truck in the bowl. I wiped out on it too many times. I much prefer the stability of the Carver CX for bowl riding.

I'm with Steve on this, try a stable truck, you can even get more speed while pumping.
