Impressive how much variety does the rock music have in less than 70 years of existence. Wonderful video!
Wonderful video! I especially liked your humorous inputs here and there. Plus your presentation of the rock genre and its sub-genre were really informative and easy to understand.
Very informative! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks, Buddy!!!
This was very helpful, thank you!
Very good video its easy to understand and funny, your use of visual is good and showing types of riffs is very useful for understand
Mate really good video! Well explained and funny
this video is awesome dude!! super informative, I really appreciate examples-both the bands and guitar clips for comparison. the editing with the two cameras/computer screen/etc really add to it and your explanations are easy to digest. as you say, a lot of ~genre~ is subjective, but everything you say seems very thoughtful and well-explained. overall a great watch!!
also, seeing nickleback grouped with acdc/gnr/etc gave me a chuckle
Great video and humor. Learned a lot. Subbed for sure.
Very informative and interesting video.
Thanks for it!
Nice video, really like the format! A little tip on the side from me as a viewer: the cuts from one camera to another are more often than not confusing
Thanks for this video. I just got home after a mini roadtrip with my brother. We were trying to classify the types of rock from the 90s and early 2000s and group similar bands together. It was actually a really good conversation. Gonna go down a rabbit hole for the different alt bands.
Great breakdown. Well done
I am a medium rare moron when it comes to understanding music terms but you explained it so well I actually got pretty much all the things you said, awesome video man!
Thanks for the content 🤘
Thanks for this video. I will be checking out your channel.
Great work man!
Please do one on the genres and sub genres of metal.
Folk rock doesn't necessarily need to have an electric guitar in order to be folk rock, nor does folk rock have to be loud either.
For an example, "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" by The Beatles is a folk rock song, and it has only acoustic guitars, and it's a calm song.
Also, Billy Joel is soft rock and folk rock, and even pop rock.
But regardless, great video.
Very informative, I’m a fan of 2000s and 90s rock, and I admit I prefer pop rock but I have a soft spot for alternative and industrial as well. I love Filter for example but mainly listen to Hoobastank and linkin park.
Great vid!
dope video bro ❤
Hi I'm a newbie to rock i come from a mostly hiphop background expanded to house jungle breakcore then scrumptious jazz jazz fusion and blues so naturally i wanted a taste of rock but i like to understand a genre before diving into it so thanks.
Just learned me something
Awesome video
Thanks, Im like the most casual rock fan so this was informative. Where would you place bands like Fall out Boy, Linkin Park, Skillet, Bring me the horizon, and Starset?
Nu metal is what got me into metal and I like it cause it's easy to get into which means I can listen to it anytime anyday
Very interesting
Not much to say, amazing and funny video
Roach I just started a music show on my twitch channel where i talk to people about music genres. I would LOVE to have you on, man. Let's break this shit down!
11:44 I want to say kiss because that’s the band I care the least about on there
🤓 Actually grunge is the name of a movement coming out from the rich underground alternative scene of the 80's. Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Pearl Jam are clearly not the same genre.
In a similar way, nu metal is a broad term for ... a new type of metal band, which may involve DJs, rapping, or imitating DJ techniques on teh guitar, or just playing on a different way from the metal genres before then
I'm gonna guess you don't like Foo Fighters
11:40 My guess for your least favourite band is Kiss
I got a few queshions for ya.
1) Can you explain what it was about Pearl Jam that turned you off from them? I'm not too deep into them myself, but the singer is kinda legendary from what I heard.
2) Which categories would Breaking Benjamin and Black Veil Brides fall in? (Sorry if I'm a normie. I just really love the feeling BB creates with their music, and BVB has some killer solos and grooves imo)
3) Can ya elaborate on your feelings towards Nickelback? Not gonna front, I kinda dig some of their stuff. How You Remind Me goes hard AF, for real.
Edit: this is not a setup. I'm just curious as to your thoughts. I'm not gonna be a herpaderp and blast anyone over their views. Just wanna know what's behind em.
For every band that makes the mainstream there are numerous bands running parallel in the underground streams, just look at psychedelic garage punk, we never heard about bands like thirteenth floor elevators, etc. the mainstream media just plugs a handful of bands and limited genres. 🤢🤖🎃😎
18:38 bro was pissed you didnt include drone metal so he did it himself
I thought this was a great video!
And, some people really need to understand that hard rock, and heavy metal are not really similar genres, because having heavily distorted guitars doesn't make it a metal sound.
That'll be no different than saying that blues, and country music are similar genres, because they both use acoustic guitars, and they also have little to no distortion in their electric guitars.
So it is true that hard rock has heavier distortion. But metal music on the other hand has other characteristics that don't even sound like rock at all.
And, this whole entire notion that having a heavier guitar sound makes it metal is simply not true at all, because there are plenty of modern rock bands that also have a heavier sound. Breaking benjamin, helmet, stompbox, trustcompany, and course of nature. But they still don't sound anything close compared to other modern metal bands like behemoth, decapitated, gorgoroth, lamb of god, and slipknot.
like wendigoon but for music
I got a question, What is the Genre of Skillet's song Hero and Resistance, and whats the genre of the vocal
I was with you until you said you don’t like Pearl Jam. But I get it lol, dope video otherwise 😂
15:01 ummmm....Rage against the machine are not really a nu-metal band. They're actually rap-rock. So i'm guessing that people tend to forget to realize that rap music isn't the only thing that is incorporated into nu-metal.
Nu-metal incorporated different genres such as grunge, alternative rock, groove metal, rap, and industrial. So, therefore, not all nu-metal bands rap. Godsmack, and disturbed are both nu-metal. But they don't rap at all.
Metal is Rock....
Yourre so cool omg
Great video, but i still love pearl jam.
When i think of rock songs id go like "SKILLET!!" or something like an electric gutar battle music and the vocal will shout with fast lyric but wont rap or roar, and this guy explained cowboy musics are also rocks
I always LMAO at black metal
No space rock?!
Pink Floyd is all psychedelic.. they were Art/Experimental/Space rock There music and style is about drugs but not just drugs..
the music is smooth and simple but can be random and interesting at certain times.
where krautrock and industrial????
are you a gemini?
why do you hate pearl jam
You don't like... Kiss?
Blasphemy!
You're really cute fr
Nice southern accent
What about Brutal Technical Death Metal. Or Technical Brutal Death Metal. You dont even get the basics right. 👎
Eh, I think I'll just stick to my 1 rock playlist
