This was my true experience. When I was a graduate student, I was at an open field studying in one late afternoon. As I walked back to the library, I came upon a homeless man. He asked for a spare change. I could have ignored him and walked straight to the library. However, I didn't. I reached inside my pocket and realized my wallet was not in my pocket. At that moment, I knew I dropped my wallet where I'd been studying. I said to the homelessness man, "I don't have my wallet, but wait here, I'll be back." I ran back to where I sat and sure enough, my wallet was on the ground. No one had picked it up even though a lot of people were there playing sports, walking, jogging, running, etc. I picked up my wallet and checked it. Everything was still there. I walked back and gave all of my cash in my wallet that day to the homeless man. I didn't even count it, but it's not much. I was a graduate student and was poor at the time. If I had not encountered the homeless man, I would not have known that my wallet was gone. A simple act of kindness saved me a lot of grief and time that day.

Wow! A child had an epiphany while the adults were still selfish. A child taught you kindness? Wow! I had my epiphany very early too. In life, if you have not helped anyone without any expectation of ever getting anything in return, you have never helped anyone. Kindness is a service to others and service to others gives life its meaning. If you understand that kindness is a service to others, then you'll understand that wealth does not equate to money.

Acts of kindness is a leaned behavior. He must have leaned it in school to love and share since it wasn’t taught at home. When my daughter was younger we were poor but she always share he lunch w friends who didn’t have food or buy them lunch. Had had bare minimum but at least she has lunch and as a mom I want her eat a full meal but for her to share her meal is a more valuable lesson.
