    I have that same machine. It is a beast. One time I sewed through a wooden ruler accidentally.
    You could glue some cardstock to some fabric or fancy rice paper to take the covers up to the next level.

    Try different needles. A universal needle may only go through 25, but I bet a leather or denim needle would go through more without breaking. Great idea, nice tutorial :-)

      Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try

      @@artzicrafts Yeah the key here is to use a "sharp", not a "universal" or "ball" head, and then perhaps try a medium gauge, working your way thicker if need be. Even though a leather needle is a well-intentioned idea, I'd try to find a workable solution with a standard sharp, before going full-on leather/denim, since the latter make large cuts and could lead to tear outs later on (the tips are more like a diagonal knife blade than a needle point).

    Will the thread come off easily as you cut off the height of the book?

    • @artzicrafts
      @artzicrafts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It will after some time. You can prevent that by starting and stopping the sewing before it reaches the ends.

  • @terrencechouinard9178
    @terrencechouinard9178 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What weight of cover stock and text paper are you using? What type of thread? Do you do anything to thread at the head and tail once you've trimmed those? I would have thought they'd unfurl.

  • @ShamoraBarnard

    Are you manually turning the knob to sew or are you using the foot pedal?

    • @artzicrafts
      @artzicrafts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The pedal! I just showed me turning the nob on that first one to show how the block was too thick for the machine to handle. I can sew up to 25 sheets using the foot pedal with no problem with my machine.

    Hello thank you fo the helpful video! I wanted to ask if your sewing machine is a heavy duty sewing machine? Or if you think any sewing machine would work fine? Thank you

    • @elisenda9
      @elisenda9 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's probably more about the needle than about the sewing machine. If the needle is too thin or weak it'll break like it happened here on the first try

    • @ShamoraBarnard
      @ShamoraBarnard 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seemed like they were basically saying you can use a normal machine but crank it manually instead of with the pedal because you will break the needle

    I'm just starting to look into how to sew notebooks so this is my first video, why do you sew it with the booklet closed and not flipped open and sewn in the middle?

    • @ragnhildiam8691
      @ragnhildiam8691 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah I see now, you do sew it flipped open but it's done at the outside of the cover and white paper is double folded at the outside. Is this done as perfect measurement to where the middle is? And , it seems that the white paper already has holes in it, did you sew through the middle before?
