As other folks have said, Chance and Sami are both introverts, and Chance loves a good melancholy song (and has the perfect voice for it). He also identified on his Discord as neurodivergent, though I don't know any specifics, so he may just express himself a little differently than neurotypical people expect. On his Instagram he said something like, "If you saw yourself in this video, it's because I love you. If you didn't, it's probably because I haven't seen you in far too long." So this was a love song to all the people he holds close to his heart. As well as his dad, I know he and Sami lost a close friend who was around their ages just a couple years back, so I think expressing love and spending time with people, and not putting things off is an important principle in his songwriting, singing, and life. You know the saying, "Still waters run deep"? I think that's what you're seeing more than sadness. He's just got a quiet, subdued personality, but he's a thinky and deeply passionate person underneath.
As someone who is constantly told to smile more I understand Adam Chance. Some people are overtly happy and some aren't. Doesn't mean we aren't perfectly content with our lives.
Chance is an introvert. Sami is an introvert. Nothing wrong with that! He's not a goofball. He is an ardent intellectual. He smiled 15 times in this song. The song was introspective. Are you familiar with the Beatles' song Eleanor Rigby? Very sad song. One of their most beautiful. This song reminds me of that song. Chance has said he likes sad songs the best. I believe he is very satisfied with his life right now. He's just not an exuberant person. I have a very introverted 54 year old daughter and she's PERFECT! Sometimes introverts rule. My 56 year old son is quite the extrovert and I adore his ways too. LOL All this blathering by me to say: Introverts are GREAT. Extroverts are GREAT. Just one opinion..😂.😂
Absolutely nothing wrong with being an introvert!!!! We are AMBIVERTS (introverted extroverts!). I'm thankful to know it's our oversensitivity to Chance's melancholy demeanor. You know us, Karon...nothing but love for our Chance!!
@@musikbyjhPeople are just complicated. I'm autistic and introverted, but I love performing, which even I can't figure out! And when people read my stories for the first time, they usually say things like "that's so dark!" - which surprised me at first, but now is kind of a joke, because I'm much happier in person than in my writing.
@@elvwood i definitely know what you mean. Most of the music that I wrote was always very dark and sad. Which was funny to me as well, as I’m completely opposite of that. So I def get it. Glad to hear that he’s just an introvert, but seems to be happy in his life.
Chance is more of a Folk singer when he does solo work If you notice through the video in the beginning of it he didn’t smile a lot but as the video progressed he started to smile more. Chance says he is a very quiet introverted person so that could contribute to him looking sad ( I’m the same way ) but it seems to me since he’s been with Home Free for so long he’s come out of his shell more.
At 9:08, Sami is dancing with Home Free’s sound guy (so you can keep an eye out for him at the concert). I think Chance is a bit of an introvert, but the behind the scenes videos show more of his fun side. His preferred genre is Folk type music which can lend itself to melancholy. I think he’s generally happy but is just quiet. This is a song I had to watch and then just listen because the videography was so spectacular. Someone said that the people appearing in the video are the ones he loves.
I love supporting Chance on his Patreon channel and getting not only all these beautiful songs but his thoughts on what leads his musical decisions 😊😊😊. Sami is an exceptional videographer. Chance is a self described introvert that could go all day not talking to someone. I’ve had multiple conversations with Chance at UVIP visits and he is warm, funny engaging. Chance also loves a sad song and prefers them over love songs. Chance has a strong leaning to folk songs and this particular song has had a strong influence on him for many years. Indeed he filmed it at Joshua Tree, a place he and Sami enjoy going to.
I also love Chance and I wasn't sure about the song the first time I listened. But each time I listen, I love it more. I had the privilege of a VIP M&G last year and got to talk to each of the guys but probably had the longest conversation with Chance, which really surprised me. He doesn't smile a whole lot, but you can see happy in his eyes. Being a self-proclaimed introvert, I think he likes one on one situations better. He also suffers from terrible migraines, so if you see him wearing his glasses, that's the reason a lot of the time. As someone who used to have migraines, I totally get it.
Oh no, we didn't know this about the migraines!!! I (Jillian) used to work with a gal who had them so bad, she'd have to inject herself with some medicine if she felt it coming on or she'd get seizures. So scary. I'm sorry you suffer from these :(
I can understand why Home Free went after Chance when Chris was leaving. He’s a great baritone and where he seems comfortable. But I love his lower notes. This is why he will be successful in a solo career too. Can’t wait for his album! I feel that Chance is happiest with Sami. His songs do seem to have a darkness about them. Someday we’ll figure it out! Happy Home 🍟day 🎶 Cyd
I always get Chance chills, he's also my favorite. Just watched the Counting Crows video. Chance slowed his version down quite a bit. There is also some reference to the origional version video.
One of the joys of watching the video is spotting the Home Free friends and family in the back ground - dancing with the Hound and the Fox's little boy, Rowan, and hanging out with the crew.
To me this song in combination with the visuals plays with the idea of there's always a hint of sadness in happiness and a hint of happiness in the sadness. Life is never 100% one way or the other. So remembering happy memories can be a bit sad because this special moment won't come again. Obviously I can't speak for Chance, but most of the time when I look sad or melancholy I'm fully in the moment and enjoying myself. My face just doesn't tell so. And as a generaly content person I get more pleasure from melancholy songs than from happy songs. I feel like they help me feeling content. Chance said several times he enjoys melancholy songs. His solo work leans more to the folky side. And yes, Chance slowed his version of the song down. The more I listen to this song the more I enjoy it.
Chance and Sami are special people. They love going to Joshua Tree. Video captures the people in his life who mean so much to them. I’m a fan for life! Thank you for committing to do this! BTW, he is working on a solo album.
I understand what you mean. But that's just how Chance and Sammy are. I follow them and you see in their videos how they enjoy life in their own way with a dry sense of humor. And to be honest, I think it has something to offer. Something cool, especially with that recognizable great voice with a raw edge that goes through every nerve in my body and which is perfect for those types of songs. Yes, I like that. Tim's and Austin's solo albums are of course great too, but I only have Chance's on my playlist. Just like this beautiful song. I also love the video with those images of his private life and also his close friends
Loved it - Chance is his own person and I appreciate that - He's got a kinda of a Bob Dylan'ish style but I appreciate his talent and his heart. He's become a super part of a super group and he adds so much to the group. He is so unassuming and it's a shocker when he opens his mouth and slays you with his talent. Keep doing what you're doing Chance!!! Love you guys too!! Richie
Thank you both for your wonderful reaction. I love the videos Adam and Sami make together. I 😊 when I see them hanging out with the Zambler’s (The Hound + the Fox)
It took me a couple of listens to warm up to this song. But now I really like it. Chance has said that he prefers sad songs and he has the perfect voice for them. But I think he's a very funny guy. The more behind the scenes things you watch, the more you'll see his sense of humor.
Think that Adam Chance always likes sad songs, read this once about him……. he is a real good singer, writer etc etc and Sami also at her video work etc etc.
I love Chance’s voice and love most of the songs he sings. I like a melancholy song but I’m with you Jillian, I didn’t care for this song. Loved the video though. 🥲😍
It's all good, Jillian! The song grew on me, the more I listened to it. Chance's voice gives me the goosies through this whole song... it just took me a few listens to actually like the song itself. ❤
Love your reaction, Chance seems to love the slower songs which matches his voice and personality! He’s pretty quiet! Had not heard this one. Low bass Kenneth
Chance is definitely an introvert. I get it completely. I can be talkative in groups, but at some point, too many people get to me. I can see Chance and Sammi being the same. It's called an extroverted introvert. Love the sad songs Chance does. He's so talented. And Sammi is an amazing videographer. She does all the BTS videos. Thanks!
Wish I had gotten to this sooner, but we had an air show this weekend, and it's been busy down here. Nothing like jet noise and a cup of coffee in the morning. Anyway, I had to get myself in the mood for this one because Chance always sets a mood, and I knew what I was getting into with this one. Chance is an introvert. I am, as well, believe it or not, painfully so, and I "get" him, but I have to make sure that I listen to stuff like this when I'm in a certain kind of mood. I think the discord between the happy background music and the darkness in Chance's voice is part of the message he is trying to send. It's like he's always battling two different sides of himself. Love your reactions, as usual, guys. You are so much fun with your intros!!!!
I love all the guys in Home Free ( including Chris Rupp) but Adam Chance is the most interesting for me personally. He is more private than the others but I understand that. I respect your opinion Jillian and prefer your honesty. Thid is off topic, but I wanted to tell you and Jeremy that I got good news about Everly, my niece with pediatric cancer. Her most recent scans were clear! Her oncologist says treatment is going so well that she is going to be done with chemotherapy the end of April instead of September. I am a very happy Aunt. Tina this is AWESOME news about Everly!!!! Thank all things holy for this excellent news, and for your bravery and willingness to share with us. Please know you and your family are surrounded by love and well wishes. You've got this, Everly!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a fantastic compliment to this video, for you to feel his melancholy so deeply that you worry about his mental state. And what an achievement by Chance to make you feel that way. I don't particularly care for this song, but I love the video. He and Sami produced a masterpiece, showcasing their loved ones. I agree with Jillian, the cadence was not static, he (at least gave the impression of) playing with the tempo on certain lines. If you read the lyrics, the song seems disjointed. it was written about an actress, and based on seeing her on screen in a couple movies. But these are the lines that I see as being the basis for the video part (of course, that is MY thinking, I have no idea what prompted Adam and Sami - I may have to go listen to Adam's discussion of the song again): "Well, there's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing And the price of a memory is the memory of the sorrow it brings".
If you want to see a different side of Chance, you need to review "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" when he was with Street Corner Symphony...and a little bonus at the end. 🤩
You guys are terrific and so much fun to watch! Keep up the good word. Jeremy, I watch a few different reactors and the audio engineer perspective is great. I’ve only seen you with that and I learn lots from both of you. Thanks ❤
I think you are both very social as I am as well. I do struggle a bit with seeing introverts and thinking they are happy. Apparently they are, but I don't think we will never truly get it.

It is folky ... yes. I think it takes a few more listens to "follow" and to get it to fall into place. Storytelling is an art, an interpretation of what you hear and feel ... and sometimes there's a change in all of it.
