Michał's mother passed away a year before his performance on eurovision and he dedicated this song for her. Probably that is why the power of this performance was so strong and full of the true.

ugh Michal.....one of the sexiest Eurovision men ever....i am so enchanted by him and his song. He was so robbed by the juries. Michal was just outstanding on the night and made all us feeling. That's why his televote result. That year everybody tried to copy Sweden 2015 (a win made by juries) by sending Modern Radio-friendly songs to win. As a result.. Poland, Ukraine and Russia stood out af because they were not sending typical radio songs. It felt different and good for the general audience = impact. Even tho juries again tried to make a generic pop song win lol

I know you wouldn't agree with me, but I love Poland's song" and she was a fan until the end, always gushing about this song. In the end this came 3rd with the televote, whilst the juries put it near last. I agree with what someone said, this just brought back major nostalgia for people that are older. The old-fashionedness helped it more than anything. It did something magical. And after Eurovision, it was the one I listened to most for a bit and that was stuck in my head the most, because I realised how beautiful the melody is and how much I like the meaning of the lyrics, even if some of it is non-sense and the production is quite archaic. Seeing him get 3rd with the public after getting so much unreasonable hate, people saying he wouldn't qualify etc, was the most glorious moment of my Eurovision-watching existence lol. This will go down as an iconic Eurovision entry for that single reason really.
Michał is unusual, unimaginably goodbye and talented. Historia career began with the talent show "Mam talent" . He was 17 at the time, but even then we knew he was more than good. IT is very popular on Poland, not only because od its music but also because od how good and cordial it is to be a human.
I adored this song when I listened to it for the first time, and I adore it everytime since then. If the song goes right into your soul, your heart, you probably don't need anything else. Of course, so many people, so many opinions, but I really don't understand why some people don't like it 😯
Interesting thing - in 2016 he got almost nothing from jury, but took the 3rd place by televote, the same like Ukraine this year - the last place from jury and 7th by televote . As for me - I loved him, he was on my top5 that year. And I still have this song on my playlist by the way. Congratulations Poland. Good job. I am from Poland and here’s my theory. This song is indeed quite cheesy and all, but maybe some people feel nostalgic about it? It sounds and feels like the old timers and also Michał stands there doing nothing but facial expressions. It definitely gets better every time you hear it, but I agree that televote overrated it completely. Michał himself is loved by many in Poland and I can see why. There is something undeniably charming and charismatic about him.

This year's Swedish entry was the third biggest gap between jury (2nd) and televote (23rd), and 2016's Polish entry was the biggest (25th and 3rd respectively). The televote ranked this one higher than "Sound of Silence", but they ranked "You Are The Only One" higher than "1944" too. That year's televote was a mess.

There's also a connection with Poland's Margaret (`in the cabana` in Melodifestivalen 2018) who everyone was picking as the obvious Polish entrant with her song `cool me down`. Unfortunately her performance wasn't up to scratch although fans and the music industry thought it could win in 2016. Instead Michal got through.
It might be my thing, but I'm super into power ballads, I don't get why all Eurovision fans hate them. Haha, that year Donny, Mihael and Jüri (and of course Jamala and Justs, the other Baltic boy) were my top 5. Mihael for me was #2, even above Donny because I still though Love Is Blind was much better than what he brought that year. This, I can't even explain it but when it was chosen in Poland I swear I spent one week straight listening to it on repeat and I still remember the lyrics to this date. People will recall him as captain hook though, hahaha. It did miserably with the judges for no reason but it pulled a Italy this year, came in third with the televote and rose to Top 10 (ironically, half of Poland hated it because it beat the national favourite. Margaret who's a huge star over there and had competed with a hip hop like song).
I laughed so hard when this came 3rd in the televoting, not because it was bad (which it wasn't), but because of how little points the juries gave him in contrast. Once they reached number 10 I lost it and laughed harder and harder with each passing number. When he was announced number 3 I nearly died of laughter. It is easily in my top 3 non-music moments in Eurovision history!

Same with him like North Macedonia this year, we won by jury votes and the public vote screwed us up ended up 8. We were literally first until the last vote

Last year Poland got 41 points from televotes. This year didn't even qualify for the final. Michał got at least 1 point from 35 countries. It wasn't just diaspora.
What I thought you clearly want to say was ; He has a high vocal range but the song's lyrics/message/meaning was not clear or hardly to interpret. That's why the juries gave him almost no points. However, his vocal and stage energy attracted the people to vote him.
"Don't hate me, Poland" ... "um" ... "uh" ... "let's start with the positives ..." heh, Just! Say! It! Bask in backlash! Wallow in it! Embrace your inner critic!
I hate this song with a passion, and that televoters elevated this to such an insane extent is all the proof I need that we absolutely need to keep the juries (who rightly put this song in the bottom of the final).
If this was a singing competition I could see that, but the juries do tend to downvote dated/cheesy entries no matter how good the singing is. This was 3rd in the televote and 25th in the jury-vote (second to last). It's one of the biggest discrepancies ever seen in Eurovision, and it's a real head-scratcher. Diaspora-voting on its own (although it could play a part) doesn't explain Poland's result in the televote, so there must be something about this song that lots of people liked.

I still remember watching the televoting result announcement like damn!! I love this song so televoters really did a good job messing up the juries like that
The big part was due to the polish diaspora, I think...
Last year Poland got 41 points from televotes. This year didn't even qualify for the final. Michał got at least 1 point from 35 countries. It wasn't just diaspora.

What I thought you clearly want to say was ; He has a high vocal range but the song's lyrics/message/meaning was not clear or hardly to interpret. That's why the juries gave him almost no points.
However, his vocal and stage energy attracted the people to vote him.
"Don't hate me, Poland" ... "um" ... "uh" ... "let's start with the positives ..." heh, Just! Say! It! Bask in backlash! Wallow in it! Embrace your inner critic!

I hate this song with a passion, and that televoters elevated this to such an insane extent is all the proof I need that we absolutely need to keep the juries (who rightly put this song in the bottom of the final).
So true! The only redeeming thing about the song is his voice, otherwise it's such a tacky mess and I don't understand what the public saw in it...

If this was a singing competition I could see that, but the juries do tend to downvote dated/cheesy entries no matter how good the singing is. This was 3rd in the televote and 25th in the jury-vote (second to last). It's one of the biggest discrepancies ever seen in Eurovision, and it's a real head-scratcher. Diaspora-voting on its own (although it could play a part) doesn't explain Poland's result in the televote, so there must be something about this song that lots of people liked.
