    Geddy and Alex were more to Neil than just bandmates, and even more than just friends. They were his protectors. His whole life, they stood between Neil and the general public, which was a huge relief for such a private person. When tragedy struck, Geddy and Alex waited patiently until their friend came back to them. And when Neil was diagnosed, Geddy and Alex shut down the band in a graceful manner, without ever revealing the truth. They took all the questions, interviews, and all the heat as to why the band ended. What a beautiful friendship...

    I'm only a casual Rush fan. I never followed them closely or got too deeply into their albums, but I always admired them for their musicianship. I'm the same way. I am much more of a metal fan, but I always liked Rush. I briefly met Geddy when he did a book signing in Brookline MA for the Big Book of Bass. I honestly barely remember it because of a severe migraine, but my friend reminds me he greeted everyone warmly and genuinely.

    • @b.g.5869
      @b.g.5869 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think they were great for their first 8 albums, and then got super bland.
      The R40 Tour was great though; the second set after intermission was sort of like a combination of "Exit Stage Left" and "All The World's A Stage".
      The trajectory of their musical evolution from their inception through to the early 80s was a progression from a fairly straightforward and not particularly complex - though _really_ good - bluesy hard rock/proto-metal sound to an increasingly complex mix of hard rock with proggy elements that eventually blossomed into an incredibly unique sound.
      Unfortunately, in my opinion at least, whatever their motivations or lack thereof were, after "Moving Pictures" their sound changed radically and for the worse, becoming a very typically 80s overproduced synth dominated band.

      They had stopped full-scale touring before the Filoblastoma diagnosis, but after Neil Peart’s arthritis and tendinitis made him have to stop. When Alex Lifeson announced in 2018 that Rush was done, it was most likely after the diagnosis, and by the time that this interview took place, Geddy Lee could speak with after-knowledge of the full extent of the challenges facing his band-mate. Until 2018, there was the implied hope that stand-alone concerts would still be possible.
      Geddy Lee clearly knew something here that the rest of us didn’t until this last week.
      I have no doubt that they were informed of his passing on the same day, and kept quiet to help the family grieve and prepare for the onslaught.

    I have never cared when other bands stopped playing or a member had passed away but I was almost in tears when I heard about Neil. Rush is a band that never gave me the sense that they were untouchable superstars who were so much better than we mortals. There was an actual sense that these were people who might just show up at your backyard bbq and sit down and have a beer with you and talk about their lives and their music and whatnot. I'm mostly sad that I never got to see them live. Money and opportunity were never in the same place at the right time. On the bright side they left us with over forty years of amazing music.

    I truly love those guys. How could I not? They’ve been a part of my life since college. Thirty years later I still listen to Rush all the time. Geddy’s voice, Alex’s surprises, and Neill’s brain, never ceases to amaze me. Put them together and it’s just timeless mystery and joy. Their friendship and bond to each other is palpable and their fans love them for that. Thank you Geddy, for giving the world such happiness. Your songs will ring through the ages.

    Thanks, Geddy, for 4 decades of music that only Rush can create. Neil had two amazing brothers in you and Alex. Not only were you all blessed with ridiculous musical talents, but you were blessed with each other, and us die-hard Rush fans. Yes, I will miss seeing my Canadian friends live, and the excitement of opening and listening to a new Rush album. You know when i look back from the time in my life that i discovered Rush’s music, until the time they ended. Over the years i grew to appreciate their music and what they stood for. Theres been many bands who had more overwhelming successful periods, but Rush as a whole body of work, from start to finish is about as steady, and meaningful as anything in entertainment. I think any of us could parallel whatever we do in our lives to the careers of these musicians and from that standpoint Rush was a success that few bands or musicians could ever hope to be! I greatly appreciate the contribution of these great artists, and i look at them fondly as a truly legendary band in rock n roll history.

      Yep. Lady of the Lake is a great song. Starcastle was heavily influenced by Yes. THat was also the year I bought a Rickenbacker bass, graduating from my Montgomery Wards "Better Bass".
