“You know you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.” ― Paul Sweeney. Farewell, Eleanor. Farewell, Park.
Im so curious to see where they end up later on in the future! When Rainbow refers to "beginnings" I wonder if she's referring to a new beginning with each other, or a beginning of a new chapter in their life.
I think she didn't want to answer him, because she didn't want their relationship to slowly crumble away. Maybe she thought that if it ended abruptly they could pick it up the way they left it.
I love this book so so much. I just finished reading it today. And made me cry. 😔 the ending tho makes me sad. I feel so empty and depressed after reading it
I felt so bad about the toothbrush thing and just her home life in general. But I agree it was very realistic to real life. A little too realistic at the end haha. I just like stared at a wall contemplating life after finishing the last page. Eleanor kind of made me mad because she pushed away Park, but I guess it's because in her life she can't trust anyone so it kind of makes sense that she wouldn't trust him not to hurt her. And I totally thought it was Kim with the textbook.
Please don't be disappointed by the end of the book! In an interview, Rainbow said she wouldn't tell us the three words because she wasn't finished with those characters!!! That means that she may be planning on continuing their story. My guess is that the three words were "I miss you," which was kinda their thing or maybe even "I love you," but maybe that's just me being the hopeless romantic I am. But I am almost 90% positive that they will end up together. I'm not 100% because Rainbow seems to be a unique writer who doesn't stick to the typical protagonist stereotypes and happy endings.
*SPOILERY comment* You literally say all that I thought of it. Including parents and all. I was not satysfied with The ending either, there is a theory con goodreads that says that The three words she wrote on The postcard are "I am coming" since The postcard is The exact same postcard he send her when he was returning home from leaving her. So, The fact that she send him that means she is in her way to return.
Just finished this book 5 minutes ago. Now i am even more depressed. Eleanor shutting Park out for an entire year kinda just made me upset. After all he did for her.. he didn't deserve that. I like to think the 3 words on the postcard were some kind of inside joke, something that Park would recognize and understand right away. "I love you" or "I miss you" is too eh.
I read this book in less then two days. I will say that in the beginning I didn't like it that much like you said but when I started getting farther in the book I was hooked , I couldn't put it down. I don't like the ending though , I wanted more . the reason I loved the book so much is because it was different then any other contemporary book I've read.
This book is genuinely my favourite romance novel ever. Mainly just because of how real the story is and how real the characters are. It wasn’t superficial and traditional... it was very unique but ordinary at the same time. Idk I really do love this book I wish I could read it over again without knowing what to expect. Great book review too btw😌
Hey Sophia! I loved the book just as much as you did. But according to me, the ending is not bad. I think that last words are "nothing ever ends" and this was the reason why Park sat down on the chair with a smile. They are so young, they can not live together... like marry each other. But after one year no contact and she sends a post card, with words from their strip, it's breath taking....
I read this book in 2 days (which isn't normal for me at all) I just couldn't put it down! I loved it so much and I thought it was very relatable! The ending made me want more but I don't think it was a bad ending at all! I wish she would write a sequel!
Just finished reading and I am happy to know that R.R. may not give us the happy ending for Eleanor and Park but a happy beginning for those two. What they have won't fade nor die. They'll always stay and be remembered.❤ ELEANOR & PARK
Just a question about Eleanor and Park's relationship: I know that there was dislike at least in chapters 1-7, or 1-6. Then, they're indifferent to each other in chapters 8-10, or 7-10. Then they begin to talk in 10. They talk quite a bit starting in 12, then they hold hands in 15. In 19, he tells her he loves her. Would you say the friendship was through 10-19, or 10-15? I know they get pretty serious around either 20 or 21, though. Yes, I've read the book. I'm only curious, that's all.
I just finished readin this book!!!somehow it was hard to read, i kept checking how many pages left and i didn’t expect the ending..? Like i just don’t like ending.. and elanor’s personality i understand where her personality came from.. but still lol 😅 anyway after reading it i came to check other’s reviews wanna knw what other ppl’s thought on this book
Trust me, you won't be disappointed by anything else Rainbow writes. She is truly amazing and very talented. Fangirl is a definite must read! Loving your reviews. So glad I found this channel.
I adore Rowell's writing but I just didn't like this book Eleanor was a bit too much although I understand why. I love that Rowell portrays how kids from broken homes really look, but I just couldn't start liking Eleanor. And romance is nice but it just seemed so weird how Park is constantly ashamed of being near her but then loving every piece of her. I just didn't see what he saw in her.
I thought the ending made since, her not going too him or writing back. I think she wasn't sure about how much she loved him; it seemed like she loved him, but also like she wasn't giving back to Park, like he did her. And with her being shy like she was, maybe she couldn't figure out what she should write back. But it's soooooooooo great! Been reading Fangirl; hope to get it in physical firm soon. Great Review by the way!
i just agree with her reviewwwwwww, its exactly how i felt while reading the book. but the only problem i had with this book is the way it was written. it wasnt spoken from eleanor and park’s direct pov and it gets rlly irritating sometimes... like how can another person just talk about someone and how that person feels in such details.
Rainbow Rowell is a great author! Though I only read Marvel Runaways comics written by her but I can tell that her writing style is superb. I'm looking forward to read Carry On and Eleanor and Park by her
I'm so conflicted, I've seen all the hype and people seem to LOVE it, but then a lot of people hate it, and present issues that make me really reluctant to read it. Do you guys feel there's a lot of racism in this book? I've seen people have issues about Rainbows' ignorance.
I really like this book because I can kind of relate to Eleanor and bits of her life. Their (E & P) humor between each other is just too funny and cute. I love it. I also kind of figured that Eleankr wasn't going to stay with Park for a long time. Especially after reading the prologue paragraph in the beginning.😰😰
I just started reading this a couple days ago. I'm at the middle of the book and it's a great book. I agree with her, the characters were not my favorite. But now I'm obsessed with their relationship! Omfg!!
Sorry, but I just couldn't finish the book. It was just so clichéd and boring, I found little to no enjoyment trudging through it. I can kind of see why others like the book, but many of the things shown in the book has been done far better. I honestly can't recommend it as much as people here in the comment section, and maybe it gets better, but I left after reading 200 pages, and from what I heard the ending isn't anything to write home about.
Excellent review! I thought this book was amazing, and I agree with pretty much everything you say. :) But it did shatter my heart a little bit and make me cry, so I was kind of mad about that. (But you know, in a good way.) I have yet to read any of Rainbow Rowell's other books, but I hope to get around to them soon. I'm especially curious about Fangirl.
I gave it 4 stars, I put it up from 3 stars because, of the ending I appreciated that it wasn’t a ‘happy ending’ I think she cut him off because, she couldn’t cope with her past.
Maybe she didn't write him back bcoz she couldn't put her feelings in words for him, well her way of thinking is really out of box after all. Or maybe bcoz she's just afraid things will change or not change if she wrote him back. I don't know, after everything happened to her, it's understandable if she feels everything is overwhelming. But i sorta can relate with both of them; longing but insecure, lost but not at the same time. Its crazy and sad but really beautiful. The book is amazing i have to say :') and yes the ending depressed me. I have just finished reading it and never feel this depressed after reading anything :')
I didn't like Eleanor as much either,Idk if it was just me but,Park was defiantly my favorite in this book.Actually no,Park's mom was my favorite in this book.
Spoiler! At first you would think that Eleanor would be the outgoing and more open person, considering her looks and Park the more introverted. Looks like it's the opposite,it was Park who made the first steps, and I loved it. This is one of the few books where I imagined the characters(mostly the protagonists) and the locations there were in very clearly, maybe because it was so simplistic. I imagined Eleanor something like Rachel Elizabeth Dare from PJO and Bee from Bee and Puppycat. I couldn't imagine Park as a half-Korean, but a Korean with green eyes, that was kinda difficult. The beginning and towards the end wee the most interesting parts, I think, in the middle it was....meh. Hahah, maybe I can't relate because I've never been in love. But once I do, I'm gonna reread this book. I have some questions: Why did Steve and Tina decide to help her after all( didn't she dump her clothes in the toilet?). And why didn't Eleanor even open the letters from Park? And what the hell did she right on that postcard :D I'm so curious yeee. Thank you if you read that hole long "review of mine" . You can reply if you want :P
Have you made a review of The Mara Dyer Trilogy? Ps dont mind me im gonna go stalk your channel and watch all the book reviews of the books ive read haha 😂
Personally I strongly disliked this book the subplots were weak and dropped in and out like the hot Asian girl who liked Park, there was lots of weak drama like when Eleanor got jealous over his ex girlfriend, the characters felt weak with Eleanor feeling controlling and very spiteful through the book while Park was bland and didn’t have anything to overcome and was downright annoying but the main plot (the romance) felt weak and forced (spoiler) it started with Eleanor reading some comics over Park’s shoulder, in reality if someone did that to a normal person they would be told to stop it. But if you like the book, power to you. I won’t tell anyone about this book and I give it a 1/5
did you just skip all of the exposition on their characters? the reactions you’re describing are those of confident people. non confrontational people like park don’t tell people to stop, we try to signal it but we won’t say it. Eleanor is incredibly insecure so of course when she finds out that her first love dated her mortal enemy (so she thought at the time) of course she’s going to flip out. Park wasn’t bland, he was stable. He had a good home life, a perfect foil to Eleanor’s. You have to learn to think like the characters and not like yourself.
Honestly, this wasn't one of my favorite books. Out of 5 I'd give it a 3. I loved Fangirl by Rainbow and really connected with Cath so I defiantly expected Eleanor and Park to be just as great. I just felt I didn't know the characters enough, so I felt their relationship escalated quicker than it should have. And I didn't like Eleanor that much, she was bitter and cried a lot and that bothered me. I understand the life she was thrown into but I feel you should make the best out of the worst and she wasn't really doing that. But of course that's all my opinion.
I think Eleanor was anti-social, not really coming off as someone who would change for anyone. I think also she can't fully love. That's likely why her being so Bitter was annoying; but who can blame a girl with a pedofile step-something wanting her.
It is actually. Rainbow the girls who wrote actually did write a lot of.fanfiction and this happened to get published. I personally did not like it so my facts arent clear on the author. I may be wrong but I believe that right.
I totally totally loved your review, I've watched your videos the whole day and I really enjoy your attitude :) if you have some time go check out my E&P review as well, hope you like it. Have a great day!

William Lobach this is the truest thing I’ve ever hear
Rainbow Rowell said,That the reason why she doesn't give them happy endings at the end in because 17 year old don't have endings. They have beginnings.
Im so curious to see where they end up later on in the future! When Rainbow refers to "beginnings" I wonder if she's referring to a new beginning with each other, or a beginning of a new chapter in their life.
wow, that just got really deep man like damn
I hate the part when Eleanor didn't read the letters park wrote her
Same here! Omg
Me too... I don't care what she did later... Why didnt she reply to those? Atleast read them 😭😭
It still makes me feel heavy and unsatisfiedd
I think she didn't want to answer him, because she didn't want their relationship to slowly crumble away. Maybe she thought that if it ended abruptly they could pick it up the way they left it.
I love this book so so much. I just finished reading it today. And made me cry. 😔 the ending tho makes me sad. I feel so empty and depressed after reading it
VixenSimmer same
She doesn't contact him because she can't bare that he would never love her as much as on the day that they said goodbye. 😢
I felt so bad about the toothbrush thing and just her home life in general. But I agree it was very realistic to real life. A little too realistic at the end haha. Smell you later, she revealed it. Also we're still waiting for it in 2020
@@munchermuncher7663 I good book takes time to write
i have a feeling that she might've written "I miss you"
coz at different points in the books they ask each other 'do you still miss me'
I think it's I Love You, she never said it to Park. Ever. So finally she wrote a letter because she's ready to say it after a long time.
@@munchermuncher7663 those aren't the actual three words haha it was just a joke

i like to think it was "i love you" bc she never said it back to park despite how many times he said it to her
Also I thought in "nothing ever ends" from the last number of Watchmen.
I thought it was "I am sorry"
am i the only one who thought they fell in love way too quickly?🤔
me tooo
same
Also yeah

You should revisit this considering more recent commentary on racism in this book.
Can you suggest more books like this .
