I beleive the song you're thinking of is The next episode by Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg
@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain that melody reminds me of the song all the things she said by T.a.t.u the Russian duo for 2002
Warren G Regulate ,has aspects of all 3 tbh but mostly Warren G.
That melody you cant place reminds me ir Rens Tale of Jenny and Screech. But it could be from something older as well
@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain The song you are fishing for is regulate from Warren G ...
The accompanying lyrics are
"Sixteen in the clip and one in the hole
Nate Dogg is about to make some bodies turn cold"
Almost rhymes too
Warren G - Regulate
think you barely beat me :)
That is exactly right! Nice ear!
Precisely
Nah that’s way too groovy, where this is played pretty straight imo
Which was sampled from Michael McDonalds “I keep forgettin”
It's either "Warren G - Regulate" or "Dr. Dre - Let me ride".
Thank you!
Next episode
... YES!!!
Warren G is on the money.
which is Michael McDonald I Keep Forgettin
5:28 That was Regulate by Warren G, specifically the stanzas that Nate Dogg sings.
Also, the La La La bit before that had a distinct 'Cake by the Ocean' vibe.
16 in the clip and one in the hole
La la la or Nah nah nah nah na it's the mother fooking D o double g.
My delicious brain auto extended it immediately. Thoughts???
@@wendyturnbull2371 Mashup, my selectah! :D
@@honved1 Nate Dogg is about to make some bodies turn cold
The Choir vocals are an exact copy of -All my Life, all my life, they couldnt break me they break me Jay cole and lil durk!
Both Artist got help from Some dude in rural fife Scotland.
But no sony Artists talk about it.
The melody is from the king of yacht, Michael McDonald - I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)
This song was also used as the backbone for Regulate - Warren G ft. Nate Dogg
the d.o. double g
The instrumental definitely reminds me of a Gorillaz song.
100%
Yup very Gorillazesque
Agreed. In fact I'd say it was a Gorillaz song if I didn't know otherwise.
Yup - warren g and gorillaz
Yep, the first I thought of was something like Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz. But it could also be copying from Warren G’s Regulate too.
Q. "Please, Help Me! What song is he ripping off?!"
A. All of them Justin, all of them.
Without a doubt, the happiest and funniest I've ever seen you in a video. Was literally crying with the "f*****g lowlife" bit. Love it 😂
Very apt to such a shyte song 😂
Kind of sounds like Sleaford Mods😂😂
Not literally though.
"I'm a f*****ng lowlife" sounds like Johnny Vegas!
@@andyjoyce5280or Shaun from the happy Mondays 😂
The opening/chorus riff sounds a lot to me like Oh My God from the Kaiser Chiefs, wasn't the particular riff you're talking about not being able to remember, but still, seems there's lots of 'inspiration' going on in this one.
Warren G - Regulate is what you're thinking of.
yep what rip off tune
Yep, that's the track.
It definitely is
Just hit the east side of the LBC

Hi Justin, absolutely love the videos, it’s amazing to watch someone who has been and currently still in the music business talk about it in such detail. Just wanted to ask a question not sure if you’ll talk about it in a future video but I just noticed that “I believe in a thing called love” is up a step in G on the music video but, in F# on the original recording. I only noticed while playing along to the music video and wonder if I was tuned a step down. Just wanted to know if there was any particular reason or if it was by accident. Love the vids . Cameron 🤘
That was hilarious! Loved your "I'm a f---ng low life" addition to the production. I have no clue what song your thinking he is ripping off so sorry, can't help you with that. I like the song but never heard of the dude. I do think a guitar solo would be awesome in that but I think you might be just a wee bit obsessed with the need to rhyme but no worries, nobody's perfect! Great reaction, thanks!
Love your channel, Justin. I’m old, too. You’re introducing me to artists I don’t yet know, and you’re making me laugh (yes, lol even). I’m beginning to pick up on the subtleties, particularly the critiques that sound like compliments. Or maybe I’m imagining it, but no matter.
”The next episode” - Snoop Dog/Dr. Dre
Yes. But rather Warren G - Regulate
👍
"I'm a fuckin lowlife!" - serious Johnny Vegas vibes. Great stuff as always Justin x
Haha so it wasnt just me that heard Johnny in that accent 😂
Monkey
I heard sean ryder, "its daaaaaaare"
Feels like a mixture of a whole lotta songs... The first songs that comes to my mind is probably Hard Knock Life and maybe Clint Eastwood/Lose Yourself. Hard to pick, really.
Yes, I was thinking Clint Eastwood too! :D
I was thinking On To The Next One, but Hard Knock Life is in there too.
Yeah Clint Eastwood sprang to mind immediately, followed by the plinky plonky piano in my head from the Warren G. thingy. I just did alliteration.
Hard knock life definitely
I think you've thinking of The Next Episode, by Dr Dre and Snoop Dog, mixed with Regulate by Warren G. It doesn't match either of those on their own, but a combination of them.
Regulate is actually a sampling of Michael McDonald’s “I Keep Forgettin’.”
The groove of Rock DJ is in there somewhere too, and Hard Knock Life...
To me, the part you recognised could have been the start of Ren's 'Ballad of Jenny and Screech'.
good one!
100% I thought the same thing
Yeah Jenny’s tale is what I thought Justin’s singing
literally just commented this before i saw your comment, glad i'm not the only one.
@@ianflannigan9603 yea also Justin is aware of ren so it could very well be, would love to hear Justin's take on this
Love the Paul Williams shout out. He did write the Bugsy Malone songs, and actually sang most of the boys parts since the kids couldn't actually sing.
I’m a huge yungblud fan, but I love your videos. I think so much of your wit and subtle digs go over peoples heads
I believe the song you are reminded of is "Can't Hold Us Down" by Christina Aguilera and Lil Kim. They (or more likely their production team) probably did "get the inspiration" from somewhere else too though.
I actually really enjoyed the song but also I’ve been really depressed and never leave my room so it kind of spoke to how I feel in the moment. I used to not enjoy his music but idk it’s really grown on me
Sorry for your depression! Try to get out just a little. Baby steps. Hugs!
@@karenmanhwow.... That seemed sincere 😂😂😂
I had something similar with Gotye's Someone I Used To Know. Took me about ten years to realise it reminded me of PhD's I Wont Let You Down. I think it's a distinctive interval in the melodies
All I can here with that song is twinkle twinkle little star. The refrain is exactly the same
@@xxiloveitallxx its baa baa blacksheep
"Friday Night" is one of my favourites songs from PTL with "I love u five times".
Looking forward to arrive home from the job to watch what are you going to say... My "Sunday Night" is not to dance 😅
The 'na na naa' part reminds me of The Next Episode by Dr. Dre ft Snoop Dogg, the rest is more Gorillaz with a bit of 'it's a hard knock life' mixed in 😂
I thought the same!😂
"its the mother f**kin' D-O Double G" 😂
I'm hearing a mashup of Dre's Next Episode (that distinctive na-na-na-na-na, although the way you're singing it is more like the passage from Ren's Jenny's Tale), and Beck's Loser as you called out. Not for me, I'd rather go listen to the originals, TBH. Nice to hear of him dropping ticket prices, tho, that's a very cool thing to do.
Just thought I’d let you know - Weyfest Festival are currently requesting input for artists to appear at their 2024 festival - The Darkness are trending, so let’s hope it can happen.
Hi Justin...would you please do a video about 'Girlfriend'? As far as I can tell, The Darkness doesn't play it anymore, but you were obviously very proud of the song. I reckon it's a superb pop/rock song and given the forthcoming 20th anniversary of One Way Ticket...I hope it will be in the setlist. Maybe at the same time, would you please give your thoughts about Ed's, Emily's and Richie's input to the band? Always in The Dark, Mark
Love the Jonny Vegas impersonation! Would also make a great cameo for the video🤣
Please do a review of Placebo! I’m so interested in how you would analyze their music.
Oh my, please please do more raps like the “Fuckin lowlife!” rant. I literally lost it every time you did it 😂😂😂
05:10 That melody comes from the words
Tonight I’ll sleep
With nothing on
So make sure that
You hurry home
From a song called Nothing On by
Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz
That being said, there’s probably some scales with those three notes, and probably some more songs as well.
I don’t hear anything familiar, except for a squidge of Puttin’ On the Ritz (which I don’t like, either, and which I heard in a There Might Be Giants song someone mentioned).
I thought this was going to be easy, because I can usually hear the song being ripped off, but it’s clearly not one I know (probably rap or hip hop).
I'm pretty sure that "Dr. Dre ft. Snoop Dogg - The Next Episode" was the song you were thinking about, most specifically the "La-da-da-da-dah" part.
THIS!
It totally reminds me of that Warren G track "Regulate," specifically the part that was used in that late 90's (maybe 2000) movie "Boiler Room". Great song and great movie.
I think you got it, that's the one!
Yeah, he's humming that around 5:17
That bit you were singing , when you said where’s that from was from Ren’s the tale of Jenny and screech
5:12 The melody you might have be searching for could be from the song Christina Aguilera - Can't Hold Us Down and the line "this is for my girls all around the world" 😀
" [...] I just didn't want to leave my house. I was sick of people, of games, of myself, my friends, anytime I did anything some idiot had an opinion about it. What I should do or be."
That's my situation atm ... Helps to see there there are others with similar topics.
That first line of the chorus is Little Boots - New In Town
"I'm gonna take you out tonight"
vs
"I'm not gonna go out today"
With the exact same rhythm and similar melody
Love the impromptu 'Remix' - I'm all in to see you do a remixed version of each song you examine.
Johnny Vegas would be perfect for that little voice over 🤣
Exactly what I was thinking! 😂
@@lizlawley6680 hehe Justin does a mean Johnny impression, he just doesn't realise it 🤣🤣🤣
👍😂
Always good to hear someone else appreciates Bugsy Malone!

'So you wanna be a boxer' I still love that song 😊

The Warren G Regulate melody was also used by Ren’s Tales of Jenny and Screech.
the tune you were hearing is a REN tune as well "Jenny's tale" "It was a cold dark night on an empty street, somewhere in London city"
Yes! Im a massive fan of both ren and yungblud and i knew i recognised that tune!!
The fact that so many people in the comments find different songs familiar to this is really quite fascinating. Every artist has influences but some are so blatant! Not that anyone cares but I heard Snoop Dog and Dr Dre - The Next Episode too. I also often default to a Northern accent when I think I'm being hilarious. And I bloody loved Bugsy Malone and watched it repeatedly as a kid. I used to act it out with my sister but now I'm imagining John Shuttleworth singing "I won't take no for an answer
I were born to be a dancer!"
I was thinking Dr Dre - The Next episode as well
Parts are very close to Eminems Without You. The groove also seems to come from there as well. There are enough differences to keep it from being a direct copy. I heard Beck too.
That’s Eminem’s Without me (Not Without You) but otherwise I agree there are similarities.
Yeh it sounds very familiar, like all mentioned...but "If I were a Rich Man!" Fits you can sing that along to it...If I were a rich man? BUT I'M A LOW LIFE! Drinking gin and smoking cigars but still no fancy cars! Da da da da da da da daaaaaaaa....
My thought too.
Wait until you hear the next one (Hated). Pure Eminem rip off.
The familiar bit you're talking about totally reminds me of "Puttin' on the Ritz"
05:15 you humming that part, now it's driving me mad to remember it as well.
Thanks 😏
Dy-Na-Mi-Tee by Ms Dynamite. Hope that soothes your brain itch!
I think the song you're hearing in your head is Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz
That's what I thought. That's the general sound of the full track.
Or Dirty Harry because of the kids singing.
Rhinestone Eyes clearly?
Yeah that sounds about right.
"doesn't need to be deep" then proceeds to take a stab at some deep thoughts.. that kinda tickled me
I think you're being reminded of Ren: Jenny and Screech (I think). Also, that northern backing singer sound was ACE.
I love that you went all Bo Selekta there Justin.
It sounds like it's about to transition into It's a Hard-Knock Life from Annie at any moment.
Sounds a bit like a faster version of "Hard Knock Life" for me plus "Regulate" from Warren G. And I like that quite some f..ks slipped through the cencorship. 😁
One part you were humming in the middle is from 'The Tale of Jenny and Screech' - Jenny's tale.
Ha! The ad lib at 4:54 sounded like Johnny Vegas to me.
And now I want to see Justin Hawkins as a contestant in the next Taskmaster series.
I beleive the song you're thinking of is The next episode by Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg
For sure you're onto it!
I think no matter what artists do nowadays they will take inspiration from another song, even if it was on purpose or not. So many songs sound alike, it's just bound to happen.
He’s sampled music that sampled music. And in a few years someone will sample him 😂
something about the tones and melody brought my brain back to Reality and Fantasy from Gualazzi.
hmmm, not sure why.
"I got a car full of girls and it's going real swell"
"I Keep Forgettin, were not in love anymore"
“I’m a fuckin’ lowlife” is my new go-to phrase. 😂
Not quite as good as I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby though 😂😂😂
In a John Shuttleworth voice too

Well, that was… a pastiche. Is that the nice word for it? I heard 6 rips.
That melody you were humming reminds me of Ren - the tale of Jenny and Screech, I'm not sure if you reacted to that :)
The bit is from "the next episode - Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg" from one Justin to another! Hi from Australia!!!
Oh Mr H, this video is wonderful.
I lolled several times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
5:25 sounded like Ren's Tale of Jenny and Screech. I cant remember which section, but he used those notes in that rhythm. Although a lot of songs could use that melody in different ways I guess
Definitely Ren. I noticed right away also. And I know you are aware of Ren’s brilliance, Justin.
Reminded me of Tale of Jenny... "give me all your money b*, give it to me, if you cooperate then you'll soon be free... However, what Justin was humming of a Dr. Dre and Snoop song
Sounded a bit like Rock Lobster to me
Yes…but has Justin heard The Tale??
@@christophermartin4091, Warren G - Regulate has this tune, guesses are that's where Ren got it
Every time you said "I'm a f-ckin' low life" in that Northern accent, I was immediately reminded of Bo'Selecta! Also - pretty sure it's Warren G - Regulate.
California Love - 2Pac mixed with Hardknock Life - Annie and a side of that Warren G riff
This beat reminds me of Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz.
.. was about to write the same.

Yep. That's what I thought
Justin’s dedication to rhyme scheme gives me hope for humanity
Dear Justin, at various times of the week I do need a rippin' solo scream in and fill that particular moment in my life; are you available?
Hello fella just a random question are those headphones grado rs1s if so are they any good in your opinion ?
The melody that’s stuck in your head Justin here is a combo of the opening bars of “La De Da De Da, it’s the motherfucking DOGG” and Warren G’s Regulate.
I don’t hear it!!😩
Those are the opening lines from Dr. Dre (feat Snoop)- Next Episode.
The tune Justin is humming is Warren G- Regulatorz.
Now you’ve said John Shuttleworth I hope you review some of his greatest hits and I might be in the minority of people over 30, but I do quite like Yungblud.
Same here! Seen John live but not Yungblud lol
Where did you get that bad ass green plaid shirt? really awesome
Me and my nephew had the exact same rage trying to figure out that song ages ago. Then I sang “when I wake up in the morning and I step outside” in that melody, as we all know them lyrics NOTHING to do with Regulate - Warren G 😅😂
It sounds like '"Jenny's Tale" from The Tale of Jenny and Screech, when Ren describes the minute Jenny and Screech lock eyes. But that probably borrows from something else itself. I liked this.
Can't hear the link nothing like it.
That was the first thing I thought of too, but then I realized it was Regulators by Warren G and Nate Dogg
Snoop doogg / Dr. Dre - next episodela la la la la
YES! 😂 Thankyou!
For me, that little run reminded of the verse section of ABBA’s Voulez Vous.
The melody you were humming reminds me of either Aaliyah - Try Again or Sisqo - Thong Song 😄. Quite a few 90s songs had that type of melody and chord progression.
I commented this and then went to dive deeper and see if anyone else said "try again". 100% what it is.

I think every song can be improved by some northerner noises. Excellent video sir.
You should put out a cover version... I'm sure I'm one of many thinking 'another Brick in the Wall (pt2) by the Floyd.
The problem I have with the song is that I don’t understand what it’s supposed to be. What vibe is it going for? Most songs about sitting in your house having nothing to do either lean into the fun contentment side, or the depressing and self-loathing side. This song does neither, it’s feels like a strange middle ground in-between the two.
Yungblud is a beautiful soul
