I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Phoenix/Dark Phoenix needs to be done as at least two movies, one that introduces the Phoenix, the Shi'ar, and other cosmic concepts, and one that introduces the Hellfire Club and brings out the Dark Phoenix. Doing a plot that big in one movie hasn't worked before, and it never will. Still, you're right about this scene. It's very good.
It basically needs to be the "Infinite War / Endgame" of the MCU, and be set up with the movies that come before it. You need the relationship development with Scott and Jean, and some sort of setup for the Phoenix itself, before making it happen. Some setup for the Hellfire would be useful as well.
I’m glad at least this scene was included in this film. It was a joy to see the various characters, heroes and villains alike, putting aside their differences to and joining forces against a common enemies. A particularly interesting aspect of the battle was Magneto, at one point, directing Hank to help Storm after losing Selene, one of his own, demonstrating that underneath his cruel demeanor is a genuine care for his fellow mutants regardless of their opposing philosophies. If we’re looking back on the Fox era X-Men, I wonder what your take would be on their more obscure projects like Legion and if we’re comparing them to Marvel Studio’s TV projects, how the former goes to more strange and unconventional places with its setting and premise (especially Legion in how it dives head-first into the surreal even after we seemingly learn to differentiate reality from fantasy) wheras shows like Wandavision, Moonknight, Loki (these three to a somewhat lesser extent) and Falcon & The Winter Soldier are more tied to set patterns and formats to make them more easily digestible to broader audiences and maintain the interconnectivity of their shared universe.
I found Simon Kinberg's direction in this movie pretty solid He was able to give it an identity of its own, rather than trying to replicate Bryan Singer's direction Unlike Brett Ratner tried to do in The Last Stand
What I like the most about the X-Men movies is the fact that they never tried to follow the MCU's formula or its tropes, especially after it became a trend They never relied on nostalgia, the tone always kept consistent, and they always focused on the present And Dark Phoenix kept that way They kept their sense of individuality. Days of Future Past and Apocalypse definitely relied on nostalgia. DOFP knew how to use it and reboot the franchise correctly, while Apocalypse was MCUIFIED

There’s a unique sense of variety in the camera work in the train scene that I hadn’t seen in the earlier Fox X-Men flicks and honestly a train is a more interesting location for a set piece that never overstays its welcome than quite frankly Endgame’s field that same year. It’s not a perfect movie by any means, but I still rank it higher than Apocalypse, X3, Origins Wolverine.
Totally agree! I really like the use of shaky, handheld cam in dark phoenix’s action sequences. Makes it look so real and intense when all this visual fx stuff is happening in the same frame

You can def argue Ottman's arrangement is better, I'd probably agree, but he didn't make it out of whole cloth. Kamen’s themes in X-men 2000 were totally different, they dropped basically everything from his work moving into X2 and on when they brought on John Ottman
I would actually argue that Dark Phoenix has better character work than Apocalypse as the characterization aligns with previous characterization and the character arcs make sense. Can't really say that about Apocalypse though. For context: Erik and Raven's characterizations contradict their mutant and proud ideology. Xavier not forming the X-Men makes no sense considering he knows what could happen in the future. He also knows about Weapon X and Logan's future, but does nothing about it. All their arcs are rushed and not properly build-up. Oh, and lets not forget Quicksilver not telling Magneto that he is son to save the world without any explanation. It also makes no sense why Mystique didn't tell him. Why did Mystique did tell Storm that? Also, Storm just suddenly joins Apocalypse without explanation. The character work in Apocalypse is just awful.
One of the reasons I loved Kurt's moment in the train is because it explored such a niche part of his character. Kurt has on occasion gone into bezerker like rages similar to how wolverine does. It's one of the reasons those two share such a strong kinship, and why nightcrawlers faith and views on violence in general make his character so interesting. It satisfies our desire for flamboyant displays of skill and power, whilst also strengthening and stressing the values of the character. To see them explore the bezerker side of nightcrawler in this movie was such a genuine surprise when I first saw the movie. Because up until this point, Kurt is a borderline pacifist/someone who actively avoids conflict.
Actually “Gap” is used in the beginning space scene, and the tracks “Reckless” and “Insertion” are used for the final fight. This is seriously one of Zimmer’s best scores and it’s hilarious that it’s on Dark Phoenix of all things, but I assume he signed in before Fox cut and reshot the entire thing.
Thank you for this video. I never could enjoy this fight because of the horribleness that came before it and the mischaracterisation of one of my favourite characters, Kurt (him staying absolutely stone faced when people like Raven were killed, but one random soldier dying made him go on a rampage were he killed aliens without remorse and an evil grin on his face? What?) but you make fantastic points.
This is such a cool scene in the movie. There is a moment in the film I really like other than this, when Hank tells Erik that Raven is dead, Erik's reaction is really good. Fassbender is such a great actor.
It kind of bothered me that the aliens could suddenly die to stabbing after being largely unaffected by getting shot multiple times. Choreography was fun though
This scene was the single best fight scene with a team of mutants. For me it is Magneto standing there imposingly as the bad guy comes forward like *just know I will f** you up*
I agree with you, especially after Xmen97 which also had a similar scene. The aliens in this movie function like the sentinels: they are a threat and a way to show off everyone’s powers and their teamwork
The movie wasnt bad to be honest but its still a shame that they did the dark phoenix storyline without first showing Jean being a hero with her phoenix powers before losing control and becoming isolated which turns her dark.
Jean lost control of her powers during her origin story in the comics. That is what this movie was mainly based on. She never actually lost control of her powers during the Dark Phoenix Saga, that story is about her becoming a drug addict after being sexually assault.
Sad thing about Thor L&T is it had potential. 40% less comedy & 30% more Gorr + showing him actually doing some killing & the movie could’ve been epic!
Storm was the only bad part of this whole sequence. Watch how she stays completly stanionary while flying over a moving train 9:35. I didn't realize that storm also had the power of bending physics.
the best scene for me - kept rewatching it - was when Jean manifested the Phoenix. it was so beautiful! the rest were too dark and reminded me of X-Files.
I didn't know I was in the minority here but I felt this reboot was the best films of all xmen. First Class and Days of Future past were particular standouts, and they progressively got weaker with each outing after that. Still better than the OG ones though imo.
Regardless of hearing the bad reviews, I went to see this movie in theaters because I wanted to see the X-Men one last time before Disney could ruin them And it was the little things that made this movie worth watching, like Hans Zimmer's score
I thought I've never seen this before but then I realized I have, The reason why I am a member I have is because I remember there was a train and it crashed and there was a lady that was like alien or something and she was blonde and looked like creepy
“Given Cate Blanchette with the budget” made me laugh so hard I was like, “wait what? Oh like carte blanche”😂 but yeah that was a damn good joke bro, it also explains why that’s the only good part of the whole movie.
Some of the previous X-Men movies have had far worse character work than this movie. The characterization/arcs in X-Men: Apocalypse literally makes no sense.
To be fair i did like the scene with Jean and her family. That scene stuck with me and i really enjoyed the take on it in hindsight. It made Jean so disturbing
I liked the part where Jean is pulling down the helicopter solely for Michael's acting. He genuinely looks like he's struggling his ass off to overcome her. He's a good actor. This movie is terrible.
Michael fassbender was the perfect cast for magneto, even better than Ian Mckellen imo. I really hope the MCU brings him back instead of recasting him, just give him the grey/white hair and we are cooking good haha
Hey. There are more great things than bad things in X-Men Apocalypse. Im so sick of having to defend the misunderstood and underrated Apocalyse. It came out after Days of Future Past. How do you live up to the greatest superhero movie ever made?? However, the craftsmanship in certain scenes like when Quicksilver saved everyone in the whole school outshines most action scenes in the MCU. Im so proud to own X-Men Apocalypse on Blu-ray and i watch it far more often than any movie in the MCU.
I have not even seen Dark Phoenix due to the awful word of mouth it received. Frankly I thought Apocalypse was bad enough, so the idea of having to sit through a worse X-Men movie than that made me sit Dark Phoenix out altogether.
Definitely the best scen but honestly I don't think it's the only good scene. I think that the kitchen scene with Nicholas holt and James mcavoy shows that Nicholas holt can be a good actor when he wants to be.
Real talk, Dark Pheonix has the best fight scenes imo. The train fight is good and the fight in the city is good as well. Some really creative and intimate uses of powers on powers. Like you wouldn't think a guy that can control his hair would stand a chance against storm but the scene convinces you.
I think Storm keeps getting sidelined in the movies because she's too strong. If you were to put a spotlight on her and show off how strong her powers are, it would just end up highlighting the fact that 80-90% of the time she really doesn't need help from the rest of the team and could probably just hold everything down by herself. It's kind of like superman in the justice league, you end up asking what the hell everyone else is even there for, lol.
The best scene in the entire movie was easily the part where the credits started rolling, by that point I realized I was allowed to leave(I watched it in theatres with my lil brother) and never watch the movie again.
Magneto's henchmen have lame powers because they're not pawns, they're peers. X-Men almost always have useful powers because they're tools for Charles, they're weapons
Alternative theory: magnetos crew has the weird powers cause its those mutants, the ones who cant even wow anyone into being nice to them the outcasts of the outcasts who would be drawn to magnetos ideology, why would someone like toad ever want to be at peace with humans?

11:38 “all time comic book greats of all time” is redundent lol
Weird that I think x men dark pheonix is the best one lol, maybe I’m biased over Sophie turner and Jean grey
I notice that you have a Wanda icon from WandaVision. My guess is that you like stories that explain mental health issues.
Say what you want but I think Days of future past was the best xmen film. They need to bring back some of them for the mcu imo
I thought I've never seen this before but then I realized I have, The reason why I am a member I have is because I remember there was a train and it crashed and there was a lady that was like alien or something and she was blonde and looked like creepy
I fell asleep b4 i got to this scene and turned it off when i woke up. Therefore, Im interested in this video
I can’t tell if he’s joking about a single famous imploding thing or not
Lol
“Given Cate Blanchette with the budget” made me laugh so hard I was like, “wait what? Oh like carte blanche”😂 but yeah that was a damn good joke bro, it also explains why that’s the only good part of the whole movie.
I was riffing on 22 Jump Street, I hope you don’t think I came up with it 😂
I thought xmen apocalypse was really good tbh. Def better than the first movie (watched them back to back)
As in X1 or first class?
idk I liked dark pheonyx, but I think it should have made different choices.
Its really not the worst X-Men movie.
#SecondChance4Kinberg
X3 was a kick in the balls.
Yeah I definitely think Last Stand and Origins are far worse
Some of the previous X-Men movies have had far worse character work than this movie. The characterization/arcs in X-Men: Apocalypse literally makes no sense.
Dark Phoenix isn't a bad film, certainly not as bad as Apocalypse.
They should have either kept the Walkman or replaced it for quicksilver
12:49 like a submarine?
Like a submarine Mr Wayne, like a submarine
I remember this train fight scene, I do not remember the rest of the movie....
The rest of the movie is basically about Jean Grey dealing with PTSD.
Liñgö pie is good for teaching it’s customers how stupid the use of accents is in the logo
Just came up for me now. Really well made.
Cheers! Not sure why this one didn’t get clicks but I guess people really don’t care about DP
I'm surprised you didn't know about Zimmer scoring Dark Phoenix
This is my fav X-Men movie
Damn! What’s your top 5
I have not even seen Dark Phoenix due to the awful word of mouth it received. Frankly I thought Apocalypse was bad enough, so the idea of having to sit through a worse X-Men movie than that made me sit Dark Phoenix out altogether.
I guess your wish to see Kurt with swords came true with X-men 97. :D
Yeah his fight scenes were epic!
Best scene was the 30 second dazzler scene
Right?! I wanted a full song
Deadpool 3 has to use the Ottman score since this is the final main installment in the FOX-Men series
Where did you hear that it was the final main installement?
@@agentofchaos7456 “According to these MCUTARDS” that want a sudden reboot and recast after Deadpool 3
Interesting perspective. I do wish they’d have cooler brotherhood members, some of these powers are such afterthoughts
Alternative theory: magnetos crew has the weird powers cause its those mutants, the ones who cant even wow anyone into being nice to them the outcasts of the outcasts who would be drawn to magnetos ideology, why would someone like toad ever want to be at peace with humans?
Can you make a video about Quicksilver from X-Men (Evan Peters obviously!)
Famous implosion would be that billionaires submarine
Considering how this movie went, I read the title wrong. I thought it said the worst scene
