Growing up as a kid in a small farming town in the Missouri Bootheel, I remember seeing a 2 row corn header on a International Harvester. Oliver Tractors, plowing fields. John Deere "Popping Johns" and I will never forget seeing the 1st 2 row cotton picker. How farming has modernized has always fascinated me and that little cotton top boy still lives within me today at almost 60 years old I still stop and watch farm equipment today with fascination
I grew up on a family farm in the 70s and 80s. We ran about 800 acres or so, which was a good sized operation for our area back then. We would've never even dreamed of running enough ground to need equipment like this. I still live in the area where I grew up but, unfortunately, not on the same land. I don't farm myself but, I have several friends that do and I help them when they need it. It never ceases to amaze me how, even in my area, the size of farms and, the technology that is used on them has changed over the years. When I was coming up, our "big" tractor was a 7080 Allis Chalmers with 180 horsepower. These days, my buddies run rigs with 3x that power and they more or less drive themselves!
technology increases efficiency in harvesting, allowing farmers to cover more ground and get the job done faster. Truly a game-changer for large-scale farming!
Lots of ground is an under statement. But what also help is their field are in southwestern KY. They have contracts with the local distilleries in Tenn and KY. Plus the sell lots of corn to a ethanol plant there in KY. They are getting a pretty good price per bushels so I'm sure they trade in combines every 2 years I'd say.
I really enjoyed you drone video and seeing 2 16 headers. Being in Calif I haven't seen any. The corn chopper is nothing like these machines. I am a farmers daughter who enjoys seeing these videos. Would love one day like to drive one of these corn combines to understand more of how they operate. Thanks for the videos keep them coming
This video is an absolute gem for anyone interested in mechanical engineering and innovation. The way these machines operate with such precision and efficiency is nothing short of amazing. It's impressive to see how technology has evolved to create such powerful and effective tools that make complex tasks look effortless. The video does a great job of showcasing the ingenuity behind these machines and their vital role in various industries.
We have 2 jd 9870s, run one on corn. This year we bought a 12 row folding head. It's a lot slower to fold and unfold using a headsite control but it's sped up moving from field to field a lot. Really liked the new head. We're planning on upgrading to a newer combine for next year. An x9 would be nice but a bit out of price range!
We grown about 120 acres of Corn and harvest with a 1973 Gleaner K with a 338 3 row head. We just pray the government will stay out of our business! Great video by the way!
Folding corn heads are the way to go if ya want to travel from field to field faster....as much as I love equipment would love to see some of farms they belong to 2 combines 4 grain carts and 13 semis and that just for harvest the farm got to be huge
Wow, must be one massive operation if it requires 2 combines costing nearly a million dollars each for the combine and 40-foot MONSTER of a corn head bought together, 4 grain carts, and a whopping 13 semi-trucks, I bet the fuel consumption is absolutely mind-boggling!
It is a good sized farm. They plant their corn with 32 row John Deere DB80 corn planters. Here is a video from spring planting on this farm th-cam.com/video/mRhcoWPr9hs/w-d-xo.html
When I was in grade school in Wisconsin 1958, One day a year was called deer day, imagine that. We watched John Deere movies that day. Talk about bias, but that's the way it was back then.
These JD X9 1100's are becoming more popular. I can imagine the time savings having a 16 row corn head fold up as well. Very expensive equipment but to be productive today farmers need this type and size of equipment. Drone footage was spot on as well. Thanks Jason for your time and efforts 👌🏻.
I was going to say the same thing the x9 are a lot faster harvesting then the other combines and the folding head speeds up the whole operation 14000 bushels an hour that’s why then need 4 grain carts and 13 semis
Just finished our second season with a C12F corn head. It’s a great head, and has some really nice improvements over the 712FC it replaced. Little bit better vision folded and the end shields don’t need put back down to fold the head. On the 712 I had to get out, clean debris out from where the shields slide in and out, and then get back in and fold. And get out again to put them back up. The integrated roll cones are nice too. I believe it folds faster too.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy ur videos without a doubt u put the very best and most detailed videos of all the farming videos on youtube keep them coming good sir, look forward to many more great work and great detail about the machines very knowledgeable person I'll have to say thanks my friend !!!!!!
