I just love how well prepared they are.. Some russians words, their prononciations is well enough. They definetely took a look at russian food and read some informations before making this video. They are really open minded and try to understand different culture. That is kind pleasing to watch how they trying to understand the flavor of our food. They don't make a grimase on their faces like "What is that thing".. This is a sign of very sage and mature nation that want to make connaissance and understand anouther nation. Thanks to you both.

Definitely. I used to watch EmmymadeinJapan and she's the same way. Mature, open-minded, and very descriptive. Very respectful of whatever nation she samples the food from.

Yoshiko Yeto if you ever get kabachkovaya ikra I'd suggest adding some salt, ground black pepper, crushed garlic, and virgin sunflower oil to the can, mix it well and let it sit in the fridge for 4 hours, but I usually let it stay at least overnight.

You can try eggplant mash (bucklazhanovaya ickra) also. In Russia we got two camps, who likes zucchini mash and others, who likes eggplant mash. It is very interesting too. And it's not only can be eaten with bread, but also with meat, boiled/mashed potatoe and other fresh or pickled veggies and herbs. This is very common russian dish. ☺
You can cook it yourself. All you need is 1-2 eggplants, 2-3 big onions, 1 carrot, 1 sweet pepper, 2 tbl spoons of tomatoe paste or half can of mashed tomatoes, 1-2 garlic cloves, 1/4 of teaspoon of mixed dried spieces (basil, parsley, savory, dill, celery leaves, coriander, fenugreek, green mint, ginger, bay leaf), and some oil 1-3 tblspoons (refined, we use sunflower, because it is common here), salt and black pepper to your taste. Chop it all and cook it on low-med heat till done, cool it down and blend it in mixer. Use it with anything you would like. This is a better recipe, than you get in the store.

we never say "na zdorovie". We may say "za zdorovie" but only in case someone is sick and we wish them to get better soon. We don't really have the analog of "cheers", in rural areas people say "boodem" (stress on the "oo"), it's probabaly the closest to "cheers".

Really enjoyed this video. I admit I got a sort of a chuckle watching you try the kasha (the buckwheat groats.) I have never had the instant stuff, but I have only had it prepared with lots of butter and sautéed onions. Otherwise, it smells too much like wet dog. Russians in general, and Georgians and Ukrainians in particular, tend to have very good vegetarian dishes, because Eastern Orthodox Lent is very strict and one may not have animal products at all for the whole 40 days. Therefore, religious people in Greece and Eastern Europe have developed a very good array of vegan dishes. If you ever go to a Russian restaurant, their vegetable stews and various salads are worth checking out.

I was very close to these people. They were like my daughter's godparents. We had planned to get together since last Thanksgiving. We said we would get together this year. Then around Halloween, which we were also supposed to get together for and didn't do, they said we would get together for Thanksgiving. A few hours before, they had said that we could meet them at their other friend's. Then they called back and cancelled and they just decided to go to her instead. I should say that my daughter was very, very hurt by this! Another friend of mine said that they're not really being a good friend by cancelling on you for Thanksgiving and leaving you stranded. I was supposed to help them with getting legal aid. I'm not going to have them take a dump on me and my daughter and then just help them without them even appreciating it. So I said no I'm not going to help you. And then I told them that they deserve what they got because look at the way they're treating my daughter! They are never going to want to be friends with me and I don't want to be friends with somebody that really doesn't appreciate my friendship. Besides there were a lot of other things that they did that bothered me that I overlooked and I really should not I have overlooked.☮🐱
      HAPPY🦃THANKSGIVING!

I wrote out something to you. It took forever. When I clicked to save it, it disappeared. The short version is I'm not making up with them ever! They made me feel like crap and we're not spending Thanksgiving with them and now we don't have a place to go. I'm not helping them anymore and I am not dealing with them. They don't appreciate us.
THANKS!💝 I hope you and yours have a WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING!❤🦃☮🐱

buckwheat is something that is eaten all over eastern Europe. if you come from eastern European country, then you basically grew up on this stuff. its very good for your health more then rice ,as you know with soba noodles, that maid of 80% buckwheat .Its better with some butter on top.in the baltic countries children like to pour milk on top of the cooked buckwheat. it was my favorite dinner as a small child .and that was very long time ago

You could have just said "ikura" in japanese instead of "caviar", since "ikura" a loan word from russian "ikra" meaning caviar/roe. I guess this word also had a second meaning in old russian as "vegetables minced together, served cold" or something. It also has a third definition of "calf muscle", lol.
Also that Grechka has screwed up and turned into a mushy porridge. Even the most grechka lovers won't eat that. Google how it looks cooked. It's more like nonsticky rice, crumbly, if you cook it right.
Alpen Gold chocolate was pretty good before but several years ago it started to become less tasty or downright bad. I moved on to Milka chocolate instead, too bad no one sent you one ot those.
Someone should send you Chak Chak. It's taste is very similar to Daigaku Imo but it's not potato and has different texture.
Having left russia couple years ago for japan i never missed any of these foods. Most russian snacks are just basically different combinaton of coconut oil and sugar. Japanese snacks and food are so vastly superior, i can't get enough of them.

small thing, not "Na zdorovie" but "za zdorovie" when you say it as toast. ""Na zdorovie" we saying when you cooked something and people who eat say "thanks for food" and you saying na zdorovie meaning let this food will go for good heath - zdorovie is health in Russian. And "za zdorovie" as toast mean you drink for good health of all peoples with you, this kind of default toast when you don't know any other toasts

Well, yes and no. It's true it's not original russian, but technically it's what we eat usually. I mean, it's important to understand the difference between "russian national food" and "food russians eat everyday in Russia". If foreign people want to know our history, they need first one. If they want to know our everyday life, our modern culture and habits - they need second one.

It should have eggplant in it. I have a great recipe, it's my grandmother's. She used to make it a lot (Ukrainian).

You are too kind. Baltika is known among russians for it's poor quality. 7 is one of less terrible variations, though.

Если вы купили еду в русском магазине, это не означает, что она национальная. It won`t be always Russian national food, if you buy it in Russian shops.
