I post weekly videos here on TH-cam that feature my original projects! Sometimes it’s a band video, a solo trombone piece, educational tips about jazz and playing trombone, they come out each Wednesday! If you don’t know me, I’m a jazz trombone player, educator, and producer based in New York City. I’ve had some great teachers like Wycliffe Gordon and Steve Turre, and studied at both the Eastman School of Music and the Juilliard School. I’m always up to something new so make sure to stay connected if you want to see what’s happening in the jazz world here in NYC!

Great tips, Nick, and not just for jazz students!
Bonus tip- Students should remember that they are auditioning the prof and the school just as much as the prof is checking you out. You’ll be spending a lot of time with the teacher over the course of a few years. Get acquainted with them, take a sample lesson with them, talk to other students, (which Nick mentioned) make sure that your personalities and teaching/learning styles mesh. If the teacher is also a busy working/touring pro, ask how they deal with their gigs during the school year. Are they there every week, or do you have to cram lessons in before the end of the semester, or will you be studying with a TA? You don’t want to be 2 months into a 4 year degree and figure out this isn’t the best fit.
