Yes indeed a great movie of a boy being bullied into baseball by his beer drinking crack smoking stepdad with his violent temper but who finally gives in to Gods good will and cleans up at NA. The beautiful way that God works when we are in desperate need is shown by the wisdom of the grandfather making that deal with his daughter. And the kid after being beaten by his stepdad has the good heart to forgive him was another touching scene which made me shed a tear of wonder. Bravo!!

Everyone goes through problems when we are young. This one stood out more because it was a true story of one boy put on screen. But we all have our own problems in various degrees of pain. This movie proves we are not alone in pain and there is always someone who will help if you're not afraid to let them in.

We all have a journey on this planet and we cant live our life through someone else. So glad the mother kicked the boyfriend out. Would love to know how the boys life ended up like. He certainly put up with a lot

For an inspiring film it was horribly depressing - thought I was watching the unfolding of a lovely relationship with Josh's grandfather - nope. Drug abuse and violence.

I used to play softball for my entire grade school and middle school(as well as bowling on a league for 6years) and I'd get blisters like that on my hands from over practicing. My parents worked me harder than I would have liked which ultimately turned me away from the sport. I was good, a pitcher and I would have won games without their pushy attitude breathing down my neck. They'd always say "it looks like you running like a girl" uhmm "I AM A GIRL" and what I didn't understand if I ran so much like a "girl" why would the track coach be trying to recruit me to the team for years.. I was never mocked or made fun of in school, not for things like that but my parents were my biggest bullies. They still don't see it. Even after putting duct tape on my mouth, drew big red lips on it and would make me sit like that for hours bc my licking my lips made it look like a "butthole on my face". They were obliviously evil. They'd even make me finish my dinner in the basement, lights off and if I still didn't eat it, it would go in the fridge until next meal. That went on for days until they thought it wasn't safe to eat.. I'd say it wasn't safe after day 3, given it was on a plate, eaten off of and covered with tinfoil. Breeding ground for bacteria. Do y'all know what happens to your lips when they're already chapped and you have duct tape on it for several hours? It eats at your lips more bc the tape adhesive is acidic. I feel bad for Asian children, they have it worse for the expectations that's are placed on them by their own families. They're treated horribly if they aren't the top, top of their class. I did horrible in academics but sports I was always, at the least.. good, at best.. great. Parents push your children to succeed in what they're interested in but don't over work them bc you'll cause them to give up if your expectations are high when they're already doing better than most. If you turn sports, especially if it's something they love and school work into a punishment, you'll turn them away from constructive activities and lead to them to what's morally wrong. Be encouraging but firm. You can be both.

sorry to hear what you went through.. and I have an Asian friend who wants her daughter to excel and study all the time and no socializing after school... she doesn't get it either... tried making her understand but she feels her daughter will fall behind and needs to top her class. only God can help her.

That is so sad to read about parents doing their children that way, many old school parents were not like that if a child played sports they buy them what they needed to play, after that they were finished, if a child could get their home work fine, but if not they had them doing work around home so they would not be they type of child that didn't want to work. You can't live your life over by way of your children, it is their life and they have to decide what they want to do with it. We must be there to help if we can. old school parents made sure their kids had their meals, I even did that myself because I learned from them to feed our children.

He was an awful role model for sure and a horrible person.but he was better than what he had growing up. Which wasnt much. Our parents can really mess us up sometimes.

Good drama flick and good example of a loser who really made me angry through out the flick but it makes it hard to love thy Neighbor in real life but it’s something I need to learn so this movie was excellent in walking away with some wisdom

Wow. This was a very complicated film. Very depressing and heartbreaking at times. The mother had such a low self esteem that she chose men who abused her. Perhaps this stemmed from the bad relationship she had with her dad growing up. I would like to believe that from what i saw at the end that their relationship was changing. As bad and mean as crackhead bf was ,i couldnt help but feel pity and perhaps a bit of empathy for him. He didnt have a healthy relationship with his own dad or a decent role model. Im glad mom finally freed herself from him tho.she and the boy deserved better. I just will never understand how any mother can put any man before her children. When bf was being so hard on Josh during practice and games it reminded me of how my kids dad treated our son while he was playing ball. It got to the point the coaches and other parents asked me to tell him to stay away from the fields .it was so embarrassing because he normally smelled like beer and would not just rant and rave at our son but other players as well. I stayed married to the abusive alcoholic for too long but got myself and my kids away from him before he caused permanent damage. I wish i knew if the dog died or if he shot the friend that neglected the dog or did he shoot the sufffering dog,or maybe even both.

    An interesting real life drama.
However what amazes me is the word "BAR MITZVAH" in which is a Jewish culture inherited from generations to this date as I've learned just a moment ago watching this movie.🤔❤👍🙏

Not really sure what to make of this movie, as a person of colour. It tends to get a tad frustrating when we are always portrayed negatively, and called names, surprisingly even by Jews. Disappointing to think that as people who have been through similar experiences, they are not sympathetic to the daily struggles of people of other races.

    • @GD-rd6ig

You are making a gross and erroneous generalization about Jews. And what’s worse is you ignore how it works both ways.
